MM Warriors - Three Steps to Good Health (As of 11/18)

Nell: The lime juice margarita sounds right up my alley. I might try it when it’s warmer outside, lol!

I love everything you and Kathy said to Diane and I agree 100%!

I got my photo of Robin today. She’s a cutie!

I’m making more cookies since I have to meet with my managing broker tomorrow. Want to soften him up, just kidding!

Sorry Lisa, you can have your margarita. I like malibu hurricanes and biscayne bay breezes. Not sure if I can do those s/f as they have fruit juice in them, but they are sooo good!!

checking in from the oh so boring night at Nationwide...VERY SLOW and there is just so much I could be doing if I were home! GRRRRRRRRR

Another bad day for Dennis....he had his radiation last evening and today has been quite sick and almost like a zombie all day...barely awake, barely talking....this rollercoaster ride is getting quite exhausting for all...

Carol - LOL, Big Bad Lobster can take a hiatus here in Virginia too! Harley has NEVER been a chewer of anything people owned, so he could aid Tyson in a little lesson on staying out of trouble! funny how some are chewers and thieves and some are not! I promise to open the door if he comes knocking!

Nell - I am ALL about that White Russian! I will try it over Christmas and let you know, and I already found the Davinci SF Kahlua, so its just waiting for me to find something to do with it!

Diane - oh PLEASE have faith and come back to step 1....Diane has given me permission to remain on step 1 for the duration of my weight -loss phase...so Im sure you could do that too if it is easier and works better for you...step 2 totally disagreed with me in every way...Come Back!! Even if you decide to go off plan entirely, please dont go away, we would miss you and value your friendship over all...

Kathy - sounds like Tyson and Harley need to schedule a telepathic "conference call " to Lobster ASAP!! Mom sounds MAD!

We were recently informed that central Virginia is due to get hit with over a foot of snow over the next 48 hours....starting sometime tomorrow and continuing through Saturday night...good chance of getting sent home early from the office both tomorrow afternoon, and possibly having the office closed completely on Saturday! Very excited about the possible time off, but very NOT happy about the snow!

I say the conference call is something they need to do ASAP!!

I hope you don't get slammed with this storm! It is the same one I was talking about earlier. If it comes in more to the west, I am screwed also. I will send a small prayer for you. We are already under a winter weather advisory. It is to start snowing here tomorrow evening or Sat. morning. When did you say you leave for Conn?
So sorry to hear Dennis is having a bad day. It is so hard to be strong when you see people you love suffering so much. I will pray that God puts his arms around him to help him with this.

We dont leave for CT til next wednesday morning...and from all 10 day forecasts I've read, we should have the all-clear by then...looks like our weather is going to start here anytime Friday, and is supposed to be a 30 hour snow event...whatever that means! I know it means every gallon of milk and loaf of bread and case of bottled water in the state will be gone by midnight tonite! LOL, they just do NOT know how to deal with snow here at all...they stay home, close schools and businesses all the time here for what appears to be no real reason at all to me! but they also dont really have the equipment and manpower for snow removal either...so I guess the main roads get done and the rest of us hibernate until it goes away! I imagine you will be getting the residual of this mess!

Yes we will be getting it. They aren't sure what way it is definately coming in. All they know is it's a "noreaster" which means could be a nasty one for us too. I remember in 1997 we had one come up the coast and it dumped 3 feet of snow on us. Everything came to a stand still, but we are used to snow. I have pictures of the snow piled up beside the house I used to live in. It had 2 roofs, and the snow was as high as the first one. It was about 8' high. People who had bulldozers came and plowed everyone out. It was nice though. And I lived within walking distance of the little town grocery store and post office. School was shut down for about 3 or 4 days. It takes a lot to shut schools down here. If they close, it's either a ton of snow or really, really cold.

Thanks Kathy and Robin (and Tyson and Harley) for your open door policy with Lobster. He doesn't chew the shoes...he just "greets" people at the door with one in his mouth. Also, sometimes you see him running towards the car when you drive up and he has a shoe in his mouth and those shoes are gonners. No one has been successful at stopping him from running off in the hills once he's made it past the front door. His sister Maggie knows how to open doors so she helps him out in this outdoor greeting attack. I think Harley and Tyson could maybe do some peer counseling and convince him shoes are yucky. LOL

Diane, I hope you can find your way to giving MM another try..maybe after the stress of the holidays is over. Right now I'm doing kind of a step1/step2 combo just to get me thru this time of year. I eat step1 meals and try to keep the in between things to a much smaller amount than in my previous life. I eat 1 Hersheys kiss instead of a whole bag full and a bite of a cookie instead of the whole thing. Just do what you can do for now and then try to do better as time goes by. Some things are accomplished in steps and over time....you don't have to be perfect. We'll be here for you and support you in your choices.

Carol

"...and his name shall be called, Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

Lobster sounds like he's a barrel of fun LOL. I have heard of dogs carrying things in their mouths while they go for walks. They just have to have something to carry. Maybe that's Lobster too.

Well, I think I'm headed off to bed. Wanted to read a bit of my new book, but was playing online games instead :(

Have a great night everyone. Robin, careful coming home after work and the gym.

Love you all and sweet dreams

:cloud9:

Yikes. I forgot to say Hi to Natalie this morning. I don't think I mentioned it before but I love seeing you in your avatar when you post! I hope that your mother is better. Both of you are in my thoughts.

thanks so much Kate--you're awesome! I've been so busy, I just read most days! Mom's doing so much better, I hope that her meds are adjusted for the last time(I know, but I can dream right?!)

I wish we all lived close together and could get together on a regular basis. It would be so much fun to have a MM meal with you all once or twice a month!!!!!:grouphug:

Good Evening

Nell - you beat me in posting the margarita recipe!!! It comes from Laura Dolson's site. I haven't tried it, though. It should be good!!! I do have some of the Da Vinci Kahula I have used in coffee.

Kathy - glad to hear you sound better as the day went along.

Lisa - hope your broker liked the cookies!!

Kate - hope the lights and ornaments are now on the tree. Hope Chloe can get her food options straightened out. I thought these days there were a lot of options as they young people have such strong feelings on issues.

Diane - keep visiting us. Even if you try a different eating plan, you might come up with something great we should know about!!

Beverly - how are you doing??? You know we would be there if we could!

Pony - you are certainly being challenged these days between Dennis and Ken's lack of computer. It won't be long and you will be with some more of your family. Just enjoy!!

Carol - I am still addressing some cards. I hate addressing cards so put if off as long as I can. Some of them have to go to Canada. They will just get there when they get there!! It's the thought that counts, right???:santa:

It sounds as if some you are really going to have a white Christmas or close to it. I don't envy you at all!!! I'll take my 80+ temps everyday.

Hi Natalie, glad you can at least read the posts and know we are thinking about you.

Time to go organize some dinner.

:grouphug:

Well, no gym, hospital run instead after a frantic call from Rick...Dennis has taken a serious turn for the worse and now they are afraid pneumonia has settled in his lungs...not good considering the large tumor there...they are currently siphoning fluid from his lungs and planning to do some tests on it so we wont know more til morning...they kicked us out so he can sleep and they can run whatever tests they need to....but he looked awful and not even sure he realized we were there....I SO did not want this to happen at Christmas time, but I told Rick we need to be prepared for the worst at this point...he seems at peace with it and we both prayed that he will not suffer and that if its his time that the Lord will take him quickly and peacefully. I hope against hope that there will be no middle of the night call and that I will be able to see him in the morning before work . Of course the impending winter storm doesnt help matters either.

Carol - I once had that dog Kathy was talking about that took his walks with something in his mouth...he actually enjoyed collecting rocks and would make little piles of them everywhere and walk around with one in his mouth all the time...it was pretty weird! The bigger the rock the happier he was trying to pick it up and move it to one of his piles!

Jocelyn - Im with you on the cards...they will arrive when they arrive and I know that I for one, will be just as happy to see it whenever it comes!

Lisa - kudos to you for all the cookie baking! I guess I am just not in the baking mood, and with nobody here for the holidays there didnt seem to be much point! Im so glad you all are able to do all this baking and not eat the yummy results!

Natalie - so glad mom is better and good to see you...I saw you were online and was going to IM, but you went offline right when I came on!

Going to bed, praying for a better day tomorrow!

Thankfully my headache left earlier this afternoon. I did end up taking a total of 6 excedrin migraine pills. The shower did help a lot too. And my cappucinos too LOL. I am feeling better today emotionally. Tyson did sleep with me last night. I'm not sure if he left Mike much room to sleep though LOL. You have all lifted my spirits more than you realize, and I thank you for it. I have stayed on plan today. Had 1/2 of a Wendy's grilled chicken ceasar salad. It's almost a waist of dressing when I only use a tiny bit. I just tape the opening shut and use it next time.
I'm glad Marti is doing better. Too bad the replacement doesn't last longer than that. I'll say a little prayer about it.

Kathy - I am glad you started feeling better, both physically and emotionally.

Ok, I found it but don't want to put it in the recipes until one of us tries it.

Margaritas Low Carb/Sugar Free

Ingredients:

1 jigger (1.5 oz) tequila
2 Tablespoons (1 oz) lime juice - bottled more convenient, fresh tastes a lot better
1/4 cup (4 Tablespoons) water
1/4 teaspoon orange extract
1 Tablespoon's worth artificial sweetener (I like to use liquid, carb-free types)
Ice - small handful
Margarita salt or kosher salt
Preparation:

Wet the rim of the glass and dip into a small plate of salt.

Combine all ingredients. You can either serve it over ice (in Mexico I've usually been served it this way, but I can't say I've had extensive experience), or strained into the glass, or blended in a blender.

2 grams of carbohydrate using bottled lime juice, 2.5 for fresh.

Nell - that sounds yummy. I will have to ask the bartender at the club to make this for me. I prefer mine on the rocks, with salt. Maybe we should all figure out a specific time to sit down together (in our own homes) and have a cocktail. We could all come into one of the chat rooms and all talk together at the same time. Wouldn't that be fun!

Hi Everyone,
I'm going to take a break from the MM way of eating. Since I went to Step 2 I can't get back into it. I tried restarting from Step 1 and it's not happening. I am so disappointed that I even tried Step 2 - I was doing so well on Step 1.
I'll check in from time to time to see how you are all doing.
Have a wonderful Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year!

Diane - please give us another chance when you can.

Well, somebody almost got a big, hairy, white with brown spots, four legged, shoe-stealing Lobster for Christmas. He has a reprieve though, as the shoe he was accused of pilfering has been found. It was one of my favorite sandals and would have been wrecked if it was out in the hills someplace having gotten wet from all the rain this past week. It was found in the house, so you may all rest easy...for now. I have your addresses, so don't be surprised if you open your door to a Lobster with a big red bow and a mournful look in his eyes guaranteed to suck you right in. Then, it's every shoe for itself! LOL

Carol

Your dog sounds like he is full of personality! However, no dogs allowed here, so I'll just enjoy him vicariously.

Robin - sorry it was such a slow day at work. December is a slow time at our office also. Things will pick up right after Christmas with the domestic charges. For some reason, the holidays seem to bring out the worst in people (and too much booze doesn't help).

You can have your White Russian while I have my margarita. Sounds like fun to me!

I think we are supposed to get some snow tonight, but not too much accumulation.

thanks so much Kate--you're awesome! I've been so busy, I just read most days! Mom's doing so much better, I hope that her meds are adjusted for the last time(I know, but I can dream right?!)

Natalie - so good to see you. I'm glad your mom is doing better.

One of these days we need to plan a get together - find somewhere that has relatively cheap airfare, so maybe a 3 or 4 night MM cruise.

Going to bed, praying for a better day tomorrow!

Robin - I am so sorry to hear about Dennis' turn for the worse. I will keep him in my prayers. It was wonderful to hear that Rick was praying with you.

Well, I got 29 out of 30 of the iron on transfers done tonight. The 30th is mine and the shirt is in the wash. It feels good to have that off my mind. I think I will have to find one important item and get it done tomorrow a.m. after Zumba. DD has a b-day party to attend tomorrow after that I promised I would stay at, so the afternoon is shot. I can't think of anything to take with me that would help me whittle down the list.

Well, it's off to bed so I can stay awake tomorrow at the office.

Robin - I'll try to remember to turn on my AOL so we can "chat" tomorrow.

Night.

Good morning everyone!
Robin, I am so sorry to hear Dennis has gotten worse. I will continue to pray for all of you. I have to agree that it would be horrible to have it happen at Christmas. Hope the snow isn't as massive as they are talking about. Don't want our favorite Pony to get into an accident.

Natalie, so glad your mom is doing better. I kept forgetting to post that last night. Sorry.

Ok, off to get ready for work and take Carrie to school.

Love you all and saying prayers for all to have a good day too.

Out the door and off to the hospital...then work for as long as they decide to stay open as it looks as though 12-14 inches of snow is definitely coming our way in a few hours...supposed to take the better part of 24-30 hours for it all to fall, so looks like we will be holed up for a couple days. Going to brave the grocery store and see if there is any food left to buy! LOL, put the crockpot to work and pray the power stays on. Luckily we have gas logs, so they throw a lot of heat if we lose power. Luckily we do have a plow that we brought down from up north with us, so we can at least plow ourselves out to the main roads if we need to.

Bev - I will log in and find you when I get to work...I know how the domestics get around the holidays...20 years of midnight shift at the police department meant I got most of them! People get depressed, stressed, and CRAZY around this time!

Kathy - Batten down the hatches, its on its way!!

I LOVE the idea of a planned chat , where we could all come on at the same time and have our cocktail and gab together!! We need to figure out if we can do it sometime after the holidays and Bev comes home from Disney!

Hey Bev...hate to be the bearer of more stuff for you to do, but looks like we will need a new thread again pretty quick here!

Pony - so sorry to hear more sad news about Dennis.I hope the snow doesn't cause more complications for you. I'm sure a lot of people are having gatherings this weekend that will be impacted by the weather.

Here the sun is merrily shining through the window!! I think it will be a swimming day after I get the house tidied we up. We are having a few people in for drinks and pupu's - the Hawaiian word for appetizers - this evening. The store did all the work for me so I just have to set things out!! Quite easy!

I will make some of my cheese crackers, though.

My favorite health food store has everything at 15% off this month so I stocked up on almond meal and I bought a bag of golden flax to try making crackers out of. I don't know what the taste difference is between the brown and the golden - if any.

Take care everyone.

Good morning/afternoon everyone. It's good to hear from you all. Please be safe in bad weather.

Jocelyn, good for you with stocking up at the health food store. The cracker recipe comes out a bit greasy, but I think that we can try varying it.

I'll check in a bit later. I hope everyone has a peaceful wonderful day!:grouphug:

Robin: I hope poor Dennis is feeling better today. Pneumonia isn’t really painful and I don’t know how to exactly say this, but my grandfather’s doctor told my Mom if he had to pick something, that is what he would pick because you go to sleep. If he is terminal, this could be the more gentle way. I apologize if that is too much said; I’m trying to comfort you a bit even though every scenario is a cruel one. The snow sounds kind of exciting for the mood value, if you can stay safe and snuggled in.

Natalie: It was great to see you and to hear that your Mom is doing so much better! Yippee! I hope you are feeling better, too, as Christmas approaches and that you pace yourself to enjoy it without getting too tired. I would love to have an MM meal and chat with you all. I suspect it would turn into a pajama party we have so much to say!

Jocelyn: You all are funny with all the cocktail recipes. I’ve been sticking to red wine on occasion and learning to enjoy a really dirty martini, which is quite legal. I get headaches from sweet drinks anyway. I’m glad you are getting such nice weather. It’s pretty nice here too, but rain is coming again. I’ll rest easy once all the travelers arrive on Monday night. Have tons of fun with your friends tonight!

I’m still enjoying my baking and it’s really weird and hard to explain, but I am enjoying the flavors in my imagination. I can remember them very well and I’m not feeling the need to swallow any of the flavor. This is a HUGE change for me!!!

That is wonderful Lisa! I'm so happy for you!

That is wonderful Lisa! I'm so happy for you!

If I can do it, Nell, anyone can! I used to only bake if I was taking the goods straight out of the house because we had no will power at all. They would call to me all hours of the day and night. It's like being released from a terrible possession, LOL!:rotfl2:

Hi Guys - just got home from the hospital, Dennis is holding steady today and responding well to the antibiotics and steroids, so thats a good thing. Havent caught up on posts yet but had a nice e-mail from Diane that she asked me to share with all of you! so here it is...

Hi Robin!
Thanks very much for the update. I am glad that your numbers have returned to a good place, that you are doing well on your plan, and that you are making it through this "season of food" unscathed!!! Tell everyone in your circle of friends that I have a special place in my heart for you and am wishing each and every one of you the best of health, happiness, and peace in the coming year. I am going to ask your permission to someday use your mantra..."Trust your pants." Seriously, it is a wonderful way to keep things in perspective. Want to know what someone once needlepointed for me? This is pretty funny. I'm always telling people that they have to drink, drink, drink.....when a patient comes to my office, I always ply them with water! One day I get a package in the mail......beautiful needlepoint.....poignant message for all toe see.....
"Drink and Pee". Laughing as I type this. Yep, Drink and Pee.......(I do say this every single day, by the way)
So....Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy Holidays, Happy New Year to everyone......and please always keep in touch!

PS.....Okay, I'm going to share something with you guys that no one in the US knows yet....shhhhhhhhhhh......
The Daily Mail.....Great Britain's #1 newspaper with daily circulation (paper and online) over 5 million......has named MM their #1 Diet of 2010! They are going to run a 4 day feature on the program, Jan 4-Jan 7....a serial article! Can you believe it? We're going to be #1 "across the pond." Also....a major magazine in GB, "Easy Living" is featuring the story in a main article on newstands mid January! Seriously, I just heard this news a few hours ago....and you guys are the first to know! xo
