For those of you who have rented mini-vans before, what is the best rate that you were able to get? So far, I have gotten 2 weeks for $506.43 with taxes and surcharges. Is this a good rate? Also, will 5 adults and 2 car seats fit comfortably with luggage?

Thanks!:D

Typically a good rate on a minivan is around 199.00 a week + tax. If it is any lower then you are doing pretty good. One thing to remember, if you rent from Dollar, lately they have been giving regular wheelbase Caravans and charging an upgrade price if you want an extended wheelbase model. They don't do this for everyone, it seems to be hit or miss. But the regular wheelbase models have a lot less cargo space when all 7 seats are being used, just one more thing to consider.

In regard to your last question, it really depends on how much luggage you are bringing for the seven people and what you mean by comfortably. You may have to put some luggage by the passengers feet etc., depending on how much you bring, so your drive to your hotel may not be the best, but once you drop the bags off 7 people fit pretty good in most minivans, some of the minivans even have seats for 8.

:bounce: I am still looking also, but I am looking for one to drive from Philly there in April. Anyone have any new codes, plz share. Have the one from National WWEB for 225.00 a week, which is the cheapest I have found so far for April anyway. Thanks::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

That's the code that I am using too. I've never rented a minivan before because it was just DH, 2DDs, and me. Now, my parents and brother will be going so we need the van. I hope the rates go down after President's Day like some DISers are predicting. Guess I'll just keep trying! Good luck to you and have a wonderful trip!!:Pinkbounc

I just booked a minivan from Dollar for October. Do you think that there is anyway to ensure that I get an extended wheelbase minvan?

Thanks!
Melissa

I reserved a mini van with Dollar about 3 weeks ago for 10 full days. The price with all charges and taxes was $365 which I'm finding out is very good. That was with no code at all, which came out the cheapest. I've been checking the prices everyday and they seem to be going up and up. I'm glad I reserved when I did!

Hi,

I've seen similiar prices for minivans and SUVs. I saw a minivan at Alamo for $298 (without taxes and fees)for 10 days. I used the rate code "TV". I was looking for early May for SUVs and minivans were $5 more than SUV rate. The rate without the code was $529 for 10 days. HTH

I don't know of anything for sure. You could try calling the Dollar location and asking them what kind of vans they carry and what you are guaranteed when renting a minivan class with them. I know some people have reported getting an extended without even asking, while others (including me the last time I used Dollar) were told that if they wanted an extended van they would have to pay anywhere from 2 to 7 dollars a day more. If you look at Dollar's website where they list car type it says Dodge Caravan and not Dodge Grand Caravan. However what is very weird is the trunk space listed is 23.7 cu. feet. The regular wheelbase caravans per dodge's site are listed at 15 cu. feet.

when and where are you renting from, I will check and Toystory duo, you took, keep plugging along.

I think thats going to be a lot of luggage with all those people. Are you bringing a stroller? We had a hard time with four adults and 2 children and we had a full sized van. But we did have a double stroller which took up a good deal of space. If it weren't for the stroller the full size 8 person van would have been perfect. We got a rate of $300.00 for 8 days last June from Alamo. I do think you'll be a little tight in a mini van. Also look into Priceline I got a rate of $450.00 for 13 days this coming May that comes out to $27.00 a day from Hertz. I was very pleased with that rate it was $60.00 cheaper than Alamo which was my previously best rate. Anyway have a great trip...

I also need a minivan for 10 days over easter and the best rate I got was $684 with Budget! What am I doing wrong?

try National WWEB code and see what that gives you. My problem is that the 3rd seat you can't take out and last year there wasn't alot of room to the luggage, etc. that I had so I am thinking of getting a car (premium with hertz, pay for full size get upgrade free) for 236.00 for 11 days.::MickeyMo

Go to National .

Use Product Rate Code WWEB
Request Contract ID 5042947
Request Coupon ID 10008198

Then go toVacationOutlet.com and print the coupon that comes up. You will need this coupon when you get your mini-van.

Depending on your dates, you could get a much lower quote. I plugged those codes in for 4/8-4/15/2004 and got a quote of $525.19 with taxes and fees. edited to add: Ooopps! I just realized that you're going for 10 days! My codes actually come up higher than your rate....never mind.

The fact that you are going during a very busy time may have a lot to do with the higher cost of your rental. Those same codes, used for 4/3-4/10/2004 will get you a quote that is half the price.
