Fantasic costumes everyone!!!
Here's something I wrote up and use to have on
MNSSHP Central when I moderated TPAS a few years ago.Maybe it can be of some help with costume ideas!
MY DS Erich as Puss n Boots 2004
So you've got your 2008 MNSSHP tickets, your PS,your hotel ,your "what to do" list while at WDW.Now it's time to think about HALLOWEEN COSTUMES!
It doesn't matter if your 8mths or 80 years old...single,Mommy and Daddy, teens, empty nesters...small,meduim or large!!! Halloween at WDW is a time to dress up and "feel" like a kid again! Let you imagination run wild...those folks will never see you again anyway!!
Here's Disney's "official" guidlines for costumes at MNSSHP:
They should not interfere with their ability to board and unboard attractions and WDW transportation system..
Do not drag on the ground.
Do not contain sharp or pointed objects or material that may accidentally strike another guest.
Be offensive to other guest.
Should not contain any weapon(s) which resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.
About the last one....when Erich was a pirate he had a flexible rubber pirate knife with a skull on the end. When the boys were Ninja Turtle's one had plastic swords strapped to his back and the other the little plastic daggers in his belt.We had NO PROBLEMS either time with these props.I've seen light sabers as props too.
Costume Tips
Make sure the costume is COMFORTABLE and EASY to get around in.You'll be getting on and off rides and do not want anything that is cumbersome.
If your little girl is going to be a Princess or something quite lovely... I know she looks adorable in those glass slippers but bring sneakers or some other comfortable shoe for her to wear.I've seen little ones dragging around crying about their feet hurting because they're in those plastic dress up shoes which are killing them!
I also suggest something in a
light weight fabric. Those of us that are accustom to Halloweens up North are use to Trick or Treating in something warm.I grew up in Indiana and it was always cold and/or raining when I was a Trick or Treater! The costumes that are sold through the Disney catalog, like Tigger or Pooh, the jump suit FUR type ones, those are really TOO HEAVY for a Halloween in Florida! The most we've ever needed at MNSSHP is a light jacket or sweatshirt.
I make my boys costumes.A ball cap and craft foam or felt can be turned into all sorts of creatures faces! Let's see the costumes I can remember... Erich has been Mickey,a pirate ,a t-rex,a turtle,a triceratops,an Ewok.Jonathan and Erich were Teenage Ninja Turtles,Pokemons and Erich was a praying Mantis and Puss in Boots from Shrek. I make the costumes from shorts and t-shirts.Then I have a sweatshirt and sweatpants that are the same color that they can wear over the shorts and under the shirt if the night is chilly.Joe and I have worn Disney themed t-shirts and light jacket if it's gotten chilly.
If you feel like you're too old or just don't want to dress in costume for MNSSHP I have great luck the last few years finding Disney themed Halloween t-shirts in my local Kmart,
Walmart and Target. At WDW I have seen commemorative t-shirts for the MNSSHP selling for about $20.
You can also go over to the Creative DISigns Board here at the DIS and make your own t-shirts.

Quick, easy to pack costumes.
101 Dalmations...White shorts/pants and t-shirts and go to town with spots! Ears could be made out of felt or craft foam on ball caps (esp for the guys) or maybe headbands for the ladies.
Mickey Mouse Club...Red pants, mouse ears,t-shirts with each ones name on it.

Baseball players...Your favorite team's jersey/t-shirt and a ball cap, shorts or sweats and sneakers.
Hippies...Tye dyed shirt, round framed glasses, beads, peace sign jewlery, jeans or a long skirt and sandals.
Pirate... Easy and light weight too.Black shorts or capris, striped shirt, bandana,an eye patch,a hoop earring and there ya go....arrrrrrrrrrgh matey!
Through the years I have found several fun sites for make your own costumes. There are 100's of places to buy costumes online too! Thought I'd share these with my DIS Trick or Treaters!
