Mickey and The Promise of Cheesy Dorito Fingers- Oct 2012 PTR Update 10/06

Oooooooh, thanks for the picture of the Beignets!! Brilliant! I love them at the original Cafe du Monde in New Orleans - can't wait to see how they compare at POFQ! Even more excited now! :woohoo:

The POR Royal rooms look awesome!

we must have been typing at the same time! I haven't had them in new Orleans in 10 or 15 years, so I'm sure they will rate highly for me as long as they are fresh! Yummy and delicious!

Can't wait to see the rooms!

Hey Lauren! I'm soooo sad that I'm so late! I subbed to this & promise to catch up tomorrow!!!

Can't wait to read about your plans!!!

Yay for POR Royal Rooms! :cool1:

I've never been to the Riverside, but I did stay at the French Quarter once, and it was fantastic! :goodvibes The bus situation wasn't too bad at all when I was there, BUT, the folks at the FQ get picked up first going to the parks. The folks at the Riverside get dropped off first on the way back from the parks though, so it's a nice trade off. It really didn't bother me to have to share the buses because the Riverside loop didn't take very long at all, but at the end of a long day all I wanted to do was get back to our room, so it was a little annoying to have to do the loop some nights when we were all exhausted.

Great plans so far though! :thumbsup2

we overlap right? Maybe you can stop by and see our room before we destroy it. I can't wait to find all the little extras in the decor.

I know that you can book them, I think it's from 5:30 to 9. I'm not sure how busy they are to know how walkups work. Sorry- not much help I know

I think we overlap towards the end of your stay. We arrive Sunday the 14th, you guys are checking out Tuesday... right? (I'd have to go back and look at your dates) I think the only time we could swing by your room would be Sunday evening after we arrive or Tuesday morning before you check out. I'll have to message you my cell #, so we can possibly get together!

I think I'll call about the carriage rides and ask what their cancellation policy is... just in case we don't arrive in time.

french quarter would be good too:goodvibes

I'm not so much worried about the number of stops- we have stayed at Saratoga and at Caribbean Beach- and both have about 7 or 8 stops each. But, at each of those we were able to stay near a bus stop that was first on for mornings and first off for afternoons. I'm afraid that if we tried to do the Royal Rooms in a busy period that they would be late enough in the route to have to watch full buses pass by.

Sunday should be our party day, so I'm not so sure about that one. Tuesday would have to be early, because i hope to get to bell services early and hit a park on the way out. otherwise, maybe we will cross paths in our timing when we return to the park or you could take your park bus and get off at my stop before we leave in the morning- something- i'm sure we can work it out. :thumbsup2

Love the resort choice:thumbsup2 I have wanted to stay in those rooms since I first saw the plans for them.

They are on my list of possible resorts for our next trip, but I really want to stay somewhere new. However we stayed at POR in 2010 and LOVED it.

Yeah, I hear ya about the concerns there :scared: But I think that the first stop is the main building, I'm not sure what it's called  From what I understand (which may be wrong) the 2 buildings that the Royal Rooms are in are fairly close to the main building...so if what I'm thinking is correct then walking to that bus stop may be worth it in the long run...I could be wrong in my thinking though

I'm so glad that you liked it! please share anything about the buses or anything that you think i may need to know.

i was thinking that too. but to be honest, i've only reviewed the map and not really studied the POR thread yet. it looks like there is a walkway across to the main building, and if that is the case, it could be very convienient to catch the bus from that stop or refill a mug on the way back if we actually took it to the parks etc.

I googled and they just put the nemo stuff in CBR at the end of 08. I knew it hadn't been too long. I can't remember how long they go between refurbs.
They do have the pirate rooms there though.

I'm so excited! It feels so fancy for a mod!

Yeah, I knew they hadn't been there too long. I do find it odd that they would chose the theme again. I don't know… I guess they pay someone a LOT of money to decide these things. though!

And I too think that POR/Royal Rooms seem overly fancy for a Mod! That makes them a better value in my opinion! :cloud9:

I haven't checked out the POR thread yet either...well, not much anyway. I've been trying to keep my distance in case we end up being able to switch to the POLY , but I think I'll have to take a closer look soon...I'm starting to get excited about the royal rooms already

i know what you mean. I've stayed away from the AoA info for the same reason. i can't wait to see those rooms. i feel special and regal just thinking about them!
i hope you guys can swing poly- have you thought about staying at one and then just doing 1-2 nights at poly rather than half the trip?

now you've just got me so curious. i hope we dont' have to wait years to find out the plan!

Love your resort choice. If I didn't have DVC I would probably be staying at POR for this trip. The Royal Rooms look awesome and I love how the resort is near Downtown Disney.

The Royal rooms look so cool! It probably makes a lot of sense to stay there now while James hopefully won't notice that it's really more for girls. Sometimes I try to convince Jeremy that we should stay there now, before the boys can object, but it hasn't worked yet.

We love the pool at POR. It's off on an island and it's one of our favorite Disney pools.:goodvibes

I agree, you should do it now before the boys get to old! I know we will eventually make it up by staying in the cars rooms or going to CarsLand at DL.

i'm so very glad to hear that you love the pool. any hints or tips for the resort?

Ya know Ms. Lauren....y'all have really messed me up... :rolleyes1
So...Now when I eat Doritos...(and the new Taco Bell Doritos Taco), I get the urge to fire up the IPad or smartphone to check your Pre-Trip Rpt. ....:goodvibes

I think y'all will absolutely LOVE Riverside! We have usually gone to WDW as a family of five, so POR-AB really made great $ sense for us, but the beautiful grounds keep us coming back. We've done a few others, but we consider it our "home" resort... the staff is incredible...Maria in customer service went the extra mile for us when we had some extra Autistic son "challenges" during our Dec. visit.

Lots of neat new stuff coming to Orlando this year...and next...Currently working on a trip or two now...need business to pick back up!

What a great trip report, your children are lovely. I love the rooms you picked - and Beignets - sigh! Makes me want to change resorts. And why have I never heard of this Characterpalooza before?!

I know! :goodvibes

I thought about doing it that way, but I think I'd want more than just 2 nights there  Maybe I'm a little selfish when it comes to that :rolleyes1
