Michelle & Steve's VR, 4-13-11 (our 20th Anniversary); Updated Today is THE Day!!

Thank you both! We've already done the "big white wedding" thing so I was actually looking at something more simple but then I thought i wanted more of a "bridal" type dress. But DH convinced me that this would be perfect. Since I basically planned our "first" wedding I figured I'd let him plan our "second" wedding. :rotfl:

I've contacted Beaute Speciale and they will be coming the morning of to do my hair and make up. Now I'm contemplating which way to have my hair. I have straight, baby fine hair that is about shoulder length. So far I've come up with these two that I really like.

Rosie said if I wanted she'd have some flowers sent to be put in my hair. I also have little sparkly clips for my hair (similar to the first photo).

For our first wedding I didn't do much to my hair. My bridesmaids sort of curled my hair and put my make-up on (only because I was too sick to do it and didn't care). I'm glad they came to help me that day! (DH & I were both sick with the flu the day of our wedding).

More to come later...

This last week has been busy! I finally printed out our invites and they have been mailed. We decided to mail them to the folks (DH's step-mom & Aunt/Uncle) who keep flip/flopping about coming or not. We're hoping that if they see the invitation, newsletter, and the short note we enclosed, they will come to our VR. If they don't...their loss!

I've also ordered my dress and Steve's shirt; and the shoes. Those pictures were in an earlier update.

And I ordered some stuff for Welcome Bags (and ordered the welcome bags themselves!) I went to Orientaltrading.com and bought the tropical themed canvas bags and am doing one bag per couple. I am going to put in the bags:

1. some fans (with a tropical theme)
2. a couple of bottles of water that will have personalized labels
3. some candy and snacks
4. couple of ponchos
5. personalized pencils
6. pens
7. small notepad

At least that is the list so far. I'm sure if I find some more "knick knacks" they will be put in there.

I also purchased two candle holders that will be used for the table/altar at WP. We'll be doing the sand ceremony, so that will be on the table, but I wanted something more. I got them at Hobby Lobby they were only $17 each and I'll be able to use them in our dining room afterwards. They are cool since I can either use a taper candle or a fatter candle (just by turning the holder one way or the other).

Now I'm trying to decide on what type of accessories (jewelry) do I want to wear; and DH & I need purchase our new wedding rings.

More to come later - I'll even add pictures of the candle holders if I can.

I know, welcome bags are a major undertaking aren't they? Sometimes I wish I had never started them and then I think how my guests will appreciate them and I am glad I did!!!
Good luck figuring out your jewellery!! I am busy figuring out what (if anything) to wear in my hair!!! :confused3

Sent out the invites on 1/20/11 with the due date for RSVPs as 3/1/11. Well, so far we have received 2. One from our friends who are coming and one from DH's stepmom and dad. Guess what? They are NOT coming. I can't even begin to tell you how angry I am and how upset DH is! I'm trying to calm down enough to call stepmom and ask her what the heck is going on without cussing her out. :furious:

FIL didn't make it to our wedding b/c idiot BIL called (without our knowledge) and told him not to come b/c he would just upset everyone. So for almost 20 years I have NEVER met my father in law! Spoke to him on the phone, but never had a face-to-face meeting with him (or stepmom for that matter). When we mentioned to them we were going to do a VR and wanted them to come they were both excited (sounded that way anyway) and said they would love to come. We sent STDs and they accepted. Fast forward to just after Christmas and we get an email from stepmom saying "she" won't be able to make it. I emailed her back telling her we hope she would change her mind. We've already reserved rooms for both of them (they don't really like each other from what we've been told by other family members); we're using our DVC points. FIL insists that we invite his other 2 sons (DH's older & younger brothers). I sent one to the older brother, but not the younger one because he moved and never gave us his address (plus I can't stand him for a LOT of stuff he's done to DH). DH & I figured the older brother won't come - he's stage 4 cancer - and is not friendly towards us anyway.

I'm thinking stepmom RSVP'd as "can't make it" and signed FIL's name to it. (because she's a b*tch). :scared1: (oops I just typed that, didn't I?!)

DH & I are trying to calm down before calling FIL to find out for sure. In the invite I sent a note asking for him to walk me down the aisle.

There is a lot of family drama here that goes back to when DH was a child. My thoughts are it happened 30 - 40+ years ago...get over it and move on! Life is too short for this kind of drama! :headache:

Sorry for venting! Now on to a real problem...the shoes I ordered are too tight! :sad1: I'm going to see if I can exchange them for a wider size. So bummed - I really liked those shoes! And I really haven't found another pair I like.

I also got confirmation that the dress and shirt I ordered have been sent so I'm awaiting their arrival. I hope and pray that will fit! If it's too big that's ok - I just don't want it to be too tight!

There will be more to come (I'm sure)! :rotfl:

Welcome bags are such an undertaking - but they are kind of fun too. I'm hoping everyone will like them. I can't wait for that order to get here so I can start working on them!

I'm kind of thinking a bracelet and earrings will be all that I need, but in what color? I want red, but I think I'll wait until the dress shows up so I can try and match the color (as close as I can). My alternative is to wear pearls with some bling. We'll see!

I'm sure you'll find something for your hair. How are you wearing your hair?

I am so sorry all the family drama is making your planning so difficult!!!
It seems that nearly every wedding/VR on the boards endures some sort of family drama at some point in the planning. So far I have been lucky enough to escape it, but I guess there is time yet!!! Keep smiling sweetie - your VR will be beautiful whether that part of the family are there or not!!
Shame about the shoes - never mind, you will come up with a solution, I am sure!!
Not entirely sure what I am doing with my hair yet - it's a work in progress!!

Seems that we may have guilted my FIL for not coming. He's now working on an "alternative" way to get to the VR. When we first spoke to him Saturday he said that it was due to not being able to get a direct flight. (Personally I think it was a combination: not able to get a direct flight but mostly because of cost. He kept mentioning "airline points" and that he's using some to go to AZ next month; I think he used up all his airline miles and couldn't get a cheaper flight). And I can understand that, but it's still disappointing, especially when I see DH hurting about it.

Anyway...he's working on convincing a friend of his to drive him down for the trip. We've already rented a room for him (using our DVC points), so his buddy can bunk with him or use the other room we rented for FIL's wife (they don't get along so we got them separate rooms and she's not coming anyway). All his buddy would be responsible for is food & tickets to the park. Hopefully this will work!

As for my shoes I'm going to return them and see about getting another size (maybe wider too). My dress and Steve's shirt should be arriving this week (I think).

Oh! I ordered personalized pencils and water bottle covers and they arrived on Saturday. They are too cute (if I do say so myself!) I'll try and post pictures soon. Just wish I wasn't so busy at work and home! :rotfl:

Thanks for reading along!

So my dress (and Steve's shirt) for the VR arrived today! I love the dress (so does Steve)!! The length is perfect (hits just at the top of my foot (with a shoe with a 2-inch heel). I need to get the dress altered just a bit and then it will be absolutely perfect. I'm so excited!

Plus the bags I purchased to use as the welcome bags also arrived - they are a bit bigger than I thought, but it'll work.

We have less than 75 days to go before our vow renewal!

Delivery day is great isn't it? I can't believe it'll almost be here - when we first started this process back in August/September, April seemed so far away!

Michelle sweetie, would you mind sharing where you purchased the water bottle covers from?
Thanks so much!!!

No problem, I'd be happy to share...I ordered the water bottle covers from OrientalTrading.com. I also ordered personalized pencils from them too. Really good prices too and they arrived very quickly.

Just wanted to share what our "Save the Dates" looked like and also our invitation:

First our STD; DH said to look for a Hawaiian shirt type invite. It took me a bit but I finally found this (and the letterhead for our invitations) at our local Party Store (named Party City). The "shirt" part is actually lime green (but looks yellow in the picture).

and our invitations.

Enclosed with the invitation was a copy of our VR newsletter, and an RSVP card that was plain (ivory colored stationary) that I put a sparkly Mickey head on the front.

More later on...

Very Cute! Love it!! Fits your theme so well!!

Thanks KristiLyn. It was all DH's idea!

I've decided that I want to have blue jewelry - that will be my "something blue". I'm still thinking a bracelet and earrings, but I saw this really pretty blue heart-shaped necklace today (with matching earrings). I should have grabbed it, but I was headed towards the dressing room and thought I'd get it on my return. Low & behold the darn thing was GONE by the time I got back to it, We're talking less than 7 minutes! Now I'm on a search for it. there was another one, but that one was missing an earring AND the heart was cracked, so I wasn't going to spend the money on that one.

So...another decision made - blue jewelry! :rotfl:

I've still got to figure out what I'm going to do with my hair. Decisions, decisions!

more to come - thanks for reading!

Michelle, thanks for the info about Oriental trading and the water bottle holders on there are perfect, but unfortuately they do not ship to UK :sad1: BOO
Love the STDs and the idea about the blue jewellery!!!

Joanne - What a bummer Oriental Trading doesn't ship to the UK! Too bad you can't have them shipped to Disney and have when you arrive.

Update:

So I'm hung up on the blue jewelry thing. I spent all weekend trying to find something I like and nothing (except the really expensive jewelry). So now I've come up with a plan to make my own jewelry for the VR. (I think) I am going make earrings and a bracelet. At least that is my plan. I went to Michael's and found crystal and blue (sapphire) beads by "Crystazzi" - I really like the colors and they seem to sparkle; so I'm thinking dangle earrings and a matching bracelet (to go with the CZ "tennis" bracelet I bought over the weekend). I just loved the bracelet - really sparkles and it was on sale for only $13! Couldn't beat that!

DH & I still haven't picked out wedding rings - although I have checked out a couple of places - we really must do that soon.

And we really need to pick out songs for the ceremony. Well, one song in particular: we need a song for him as he comes out to wait for me before I walk down the aisle.

That's the update so far. Still don't know if DH's father is coming or not. He said he was "working on it" but haven't heard from him in a week, so we'll see.

Thanks for following along!

Do you know Michelle, I may look in to having them shipped to our resort at WDW. I want them for the men's 'Grub 'n' Golf' gift bags. I thought it would be cool for them to have a water bottle holder (with water bottle in) to take onto the golf course.
We still haven't got our new rings either!!! I do have some idea what I want and DH just wants a plain band. His original ring bent and snapped whilst we were moving house once, so he needs a new one. I think I want one with stones in.
As for music, we are slowly getting there with our choices. We have a very talented harpist playing for us and I think we will just pick out entrance tunes x 3 (DH, DD escorted by her little brother, and me escorted by my oldest son) and a recessional, and leave the seating of guests music and the music to be played at the champagne and cake reception, to her. I will just tell her I want a mix of mainly classical music with a few Disney favourites thrown in!!
