Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Morning ladies... all quite here at work. I feel as if I am sleep walking. Well I am. I watched movies until 2 a.m.. I had to turn the movies in today @ Blockbusters otherwise I would be owning them! Boy I hate it when I rent movies and then am too busy to watch them.

We are going on the Dec 6th(09) cruise. It is a 4 night. We booked an outside port hole cabin(cat 9, i think) as I thought we'd AT LEAST need to see what was going on. DH has had inner ear issues in the past, so I am concerned. I was thinking of a verandah room. Our Dreams Unlimited Travel agent is Merrie and she has been full of answers for our cruise. Our price for the 4 of us is $2150. Plus insurance. I thought this was a great price-well better than I thought.

I cannot stand how close we will be to WDW w/out showing our faces at least 1-2 days there-so we will try to pin that on to the front of the trip. Half is paid, but the other half may not get paid till end of this year, beginning of next.

I really cannot think of it now since we are recovering from all this unexpected house expense. Uggh:headache:

Morning Y'all,

Lori, Thanks for the info. Bob did email Kevin directly but still wasn't clear on some things. We'll have to check with tracy, thanks for the links. We've both been in a cranky mood with each other lately, so I haven't brought it up again, yet. Of course if we do it, I must have a verandah! So we'll be spending at least that much, one good thing I've heard is that you can bring your own liquor on the Disney cruises. That should help, we had quite a bar tab on the Carnival Cruise we took!

Lori1043, That sounds like a really good deal for 4! Just remember excursions will cost too. That's my probem with booking the Disney cruise, then of course I'll want to stop at Disney & I'd really want a verandah cabin! Poor Bob, though he knew beforehand, I never was a cheap date!

Thanks for all the cute compliments on our pics! I thought Alexis's crown looked like a queen's, but Oh Nooo she insisted she was a Princess not a Queen!

Cajunmommy, Have a safe trip!! There was a lot of road construction around Beaumont, but gas prices in Houston were actually a little bit cheaper than here. $3.83 at a Chevron station.

Mary, Sorry you're having trouble sleeping, I know that feeling only too well. I had trouble falling asleep last night & should have gone back to bed after I got DH off to work.

I've been looking up medical terminology this morning. I got the MRI & Xray results in the mail yesterday. I don't have a followup appt until the 17th.
From what I'm understanding, there are very minimal problems in my lower spine. So my 1st question there will be why have I had low back pain for almost 20 yrs & why do I have pain & numbness down my leg & foot?
My neck is another story. Mutiple problems all over the place. disc bulge at C3-4, bone spurs at C4-5, bone spurs, narrowing of the spinal canal, displacement of the cord at C5-6, and disc herniation at C6-7... I have no clue what the dr is going to recommend! I don't think they do spinal transplants do they?! ;)

Have a safe & happy holiday weekend everyone! Time to hit the road for me....we're off to Texas.

Have a safe trip!

Sheryl - Love the pics! I hope you get good results on your medical term search. Having to wait until the 17th isn't good.....:confused3

Thanks Kathy, I think I'm understanding it now! I'll just have to wait to get the Dr's take on all of it.

When are y'all taking off for MS?

Hey Sheryl, geez girl, your neck is in crazy shape. Was an accident involved in that or am I so behind the times that i cannot remember??:rolleyes1

Anyway, about the cruise-I have been lurking the cruise boards and not so sure we will book any more than 1, maybe 2. We have never cruised before b/c we have always been, "just wanna get there and lay on the beach all day, in between naps and eating":cool2: So in the Bahamas and trying to find us a beach to hang out on- we may have to book something. I'd LOVE to go to Atlantis but that would be another $1000 for my family-:scared1: umm NO. I am thinking of another route for that though! In Castaway Cay- heck, I'm chillin'. Only ONE day on a private island- what is the best way to enjoy that-walking/sitting/ swimming at the beach, having a couple cool tropical drinks, maybe meet Capt. Jackpirate: - you know, like the Corona commercials:thumbsup2 . The kids can play on the beach.
I do not enjoy shopping on vacations that much. I mean, I am still female and all and love a good bargain, and think browsing as we walk by would be neat, BUT I am NOT spending a day shopping and getting hounded by Bahamian citizens(even though we know they are going to). I AM thinking a dive to play with stingrays sounds really cool in the bahamas,if not Atlantis- but in Castaway Cay:goodvibes - 'nothing' is an order for this family!

Anyway, I want to get most out of the trip and just relax and enjoy the wonder of being on such a tropical vacation!

Yeah I guess I'm in pretty bad shape, uh? I've had problems with the neck for years, I've had a couple of car accidents over the years that I had whiplash from. Then in December I had a small accident, which made my already hurting neck, hurt more. But after every accident the xrays wouldn't show anything. From what I understand I have degenerative disc disease, which can be hereditary, caused from accidents or just wear & tear. My Mom has minor low back problems, but nothing like this. So I have to assume it's from the several car accidents & probably moving Bob around.

Cruise stuff... DD & I did the stingray deal in Jamaica, it was awesome & terribly frightening at the same time! You actually have these huge rays swimming around, under & touching you! I believe Disney doesn't do it like that, that the rays are caged?

My cousin & her family went to Atlantis & thought it was fantastic. I saw the pics & it was great, but I'm not sure it would be $1000 dollars great?! Bob did find out that Atlantis isn't handicap accessible, so that was very surprising & disappointing.

Sheryl - wow your neck stuff sounds serious. I had some neck problems that got helped a lot with physical therapy. I was sitting at the computer with my neck jutted out.

My dad is now home from rehab - which is not necessarily a good thing. I am FURIOUS with the rehab center. In my opinion they just dumped him because it is the 4th of July. He will not get any services until next week.

Tricia, I can believe that they just wanted off for the weekend!!! Sorry.

I'll just have to wait & see what this dr has to say. This is not the 1st time I've sought treatment for my aches & pains. I've gone to physical therapy four times & gotten no relief. So if this guy starts talking surgery, I guess I'll have to listen. :scared:

Lori, you'll be on the Mousefest cruise! http://www.mousefest.org/default.asp You'll have plenty of hard-core Disney lovers on the cruise with you. :cloud9:

Tricia - I can tell you from experience that is exactly what they did. I've been through every holiday of the year experiencing exactly that.:sad2:

Thanks Kathy and Sheryl. Fortunately Dad is doing so much better at home than I expected. The other part that I am mad about is that the "case coordinator" went in this morning and told him that his daughters didn't want him!

I told my sister tonight that she was in charge of medicine. I'm going to let her be responsible for ordering, getting prescriptions, etc. She will do something if I give her a specific task.

Now that makes my blood boil. I would most definitely have this "coordinator" reported....

Well, on the Dis cruise threads , many take a less pricey route of going. Not sure if i will do it or not, but it seems safe and easy to do.

I think it sucks that it isn't accessable to everyone.

If they are caged you may as well go to an aquarium huh???

OMG:rolleyes: well I guess that I will need to get to the terminal even earlier than I planned if all these crazy Disney fans will be there! Many threads say to get there for 10 am, but the Mousefest thing meets at 10:30 in the terminal, so OMG:eek: , we'll have to plan to get there for 9-ish, I suppose.

DH asked if we should change the dates!!!!

Okay, I looked up the site(thanks) and it looks cool and not very family vacation invasive. I like that in the Bahamas there is something going on that is not a Disney excursion, but a safe one that many will be going to.

Umm, the door decoration thing looks fun.

Part of me feels like I am walking into a oldtime family camp like in Dirty Dancin':scared:

Hey guys - I have a question. I've been doing the treadmill for about 1 1/2 weeks now and I just weighed myself for the first time since I was at the gym last Friday and I've lost 5 lbs. Is that normal, is it water...????????:confused3

Kathy - that is great!!! No it is not water. You've probably gained muscle so that is real weight loss.

Tricia II

From my days doing Weight Watchers and working at a cardiac rehab facility- I learned 1-2 pounds a week is healthy, and it will fluctuate-but on weeks you don't lose and you are doing the same amount of effort, don't be discouraged- it will come!

Congrats on your weight loss-awesome!!!:thumbsup2

kmores- try this thread to start. It's on the Podcast board and all the people there that have signed up. Winotracy on there is the Dreams Unlimited travel agent that handles the cruises. She's been answering questions.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1683088

Sheryl- I'd suggest emailing Tracy too- tracy@dreamsunlimitedtravel.com . She's been great.

That or emailing Kevin directly at kevin@dreamsunlimitedtravel.com. His mom's in a wheelchair and is usually more "aware" as far as the mobility stuff goes than the rest of us.

We're in a cat 6 with verandah and with the transfers (no air) and everything it's $2400 for 4 nights. I would have went for a lesser cat but Rick would fell scrunched I'm sure, so I figured give him a good room for the first cruise and convince him to go back then switch to a lesser cat on the next.:rolleyes1

But, I'm scrimping and saving for this one. My pennies have never screamed so much from being stretched.:sad2:

pirate:

Kmores- pm me any questions I might know the answer. If not, I'll help you find out- that way we both know!

Lori
thank you dear for the advice....we really wanted to go on a cruise in November then DH suddenly changed his mind and wanted to go to WDW...
