Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Morning Y'all,

Lori, Thanks for the info. Bob did email Kevin directly but still wasn't clear on some things. We'll have to check with tracy, thanks for the links. We've both been in a cranky mood with each other lately, so I haven't brought it up again, yet. Of course if we do it, I must have a verandah! So we'll be spending at least that much, one good thing I've heard is that you can bring your own liquor on the Disney cruises. That should help, we had quite a bar tab on the Carnival Cruise we took!

Lori1043, That sounds like a really good deal for 4! Just remember excursions will cost too. That's my probem with booking the Disney cruise, then of course I'll want to stop at Disney & I'd really want a verandah cabin! Poor Bob, though he knew beforehand, I never was a cheap date!

Thanks for all the cute compliments on our pics! I thought Alexis's crown looked like a queen's, but Oh Nooo she insisted she was a Princess not a Queen!

Cajunmommy, Have a safe trip!! There was a lot of road construction around Beaumont, but gas prices in Houston were actually a little bit cheaper than here. $3.83 at a Chevron station.

Mary, Sorry you're having trouble sleeping, I know that feeling only too well. I had trouble falling asleep last night & should have gone back to bed after I got DH off to work.

I've been looking up medical terminology this morning. I got the MRI & Xray results in the mail yesterday. I don't have a followup appt until the 17th.
From what I'm understanding, there are very minimal problems in my lower spine. So my 1st question there will be why have I had low back pain for almost 20 yrs & why do I have pain & numbness down my leg & foot?
My neck is another story. Mutiple problems all over the place. disc bulge at C3-4, bone spurs at C4-5, bone spurs, narrowing of the spinal canal, displacement of the cord at C5-6, and disc herniation at C6-7... I have no clue what the dr is going to recommend! I don't think they do spinal transplants do they?! ;)

I work with folks with these issues...I understand you are likely in a lot of pain. they will probably recommend surgery...but there are a lot of risks involved with surgery so get a lot of opinions....as the spinal cord narrows I assume it causes a lot of issues and serious pains....since all the nerves are connected that's why it radiates down the leg....as you move and nerves in spine are pinched, hence the numbness. not a medical doctor but have to interpret medical reports a lot.

Yeah I guess I'm in pretty bad shape, uh? I've had problems with the neck for years, I've had a couple of car accidents over the years that I had whiplash from. Then in December I had a small accident, which made my already hurting neck, hurt more. But after every accident the xrays wouldn't show anything. From what I understand I have degenerative disc disease, which can be hereditary, caused from accidents or just wear & tear. My Mom has minor low back problems, but nothing like this. So I have to assume it's from the several car accidents & probably moving Bob around.

Cruise stuff... DD & I did the stingray deal in Jamaica, it was awesome & terribly frightening at the same time! You actually have these huge rays swimming around, under & touching you! I believe Disney doesn't do it like that, that the rays are caged?

My cousin & her family went to Atlantis & thought it was fantastic. I saw the pics & it was great, but I'm not sure it would be $1000 dollars great?! Bob did find out that Atlantis isn't handicap accessible, so that was very surprising & disappointing.

dear - I have DJD in my neck too (an actual pain in my neck!). I think that some of the "migraines" are strain from my neck traveling up and hitting the same nerves that are sensitive when I have a migraine. I don't sit correct at work (or right now on the computer) and I carry all my stress in my neck. right now I am incredibly stressed from everything and the neck will be killing me tomorrow. I had this compression thing I would stick my neck in and it was supposed to pull my neck up ( weird device...) they also did the same thing at physical therapy. PM if you just want to sympathize...hugs!

Sheryl - wow your neck stuff sounds serious. I had some neck problems that got helped a lot with physical therapy. I was sitting at the computer with my neck jutted out.

My dad is now home from rehab - which is not necessarily a good thing. I am FURIOUS with the rehab center. In my opinion they just dumped him because it is the 4th of July. He will not get any services until next week.

hugs dear...hang in there!

Now that makes my blood boil. I would most definitely have this "coordinator" reported....

me too...I hate mean people who LIE. sorry personal issues surfacing...

Hey guys - I have a question. I've been doing the treadmill for about 1 1/2 weeks now and I just weighed myself for the first time since I was at the gym last Friday and I've lost 5 lbs. Is that normal, is it water...????????:confused3

congratulations!! and we will call it lost weight!!! woo woo!! treat yourself to something fun!!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I hope you all have a happy and safe 4th.

Back at you, girlfriend!!! Hope you have a good baseball weekend!

Happy 4th to everyone!

Kathy, Congrats on the weight loss!!! Are you dieting also? I agree with Lori, when I was working the WW & walking the 1st couple of weeks it came off fast. But then you'll have weeks when you gain or lose nothing. Just keep at you are doing great!

Thanks everyone for the hugs & concern about my back/neck issues! :goodvibes I'm seeing Dr Najeeb Thomas, he was recommended by Chris (she worked with him at Ochsner) he has since left Ochsner & gone to EJ. She also went ask all the nurses in the neuro dept for references & they all said they wouldn't see an Ochsner doc but instead go to Thomas. Bob also emailed his physical therapist & he recommended the same guy! My DD also ran into a friends Mom who had surgery a few years back & he was her surgeon too! She said she has been pain-free since. He & his clinic are supposedly considered the best around for minimally invasive spine surgery.

Y'all have a good weekend! We are going to my Aunt's today. I'm fixing a sangria to take over there. We might have a small barbecue here tomorrow.

Yes, I'm doing low carb diet. I'll be starting at the gym on Monday - 5 days a week, 1 hour cardio and weights/toning! I am determined....:woohoo:

I've even packed stuff to make sure I stay on course this weekend. Ballpark food is NOT good for dieting.:guilty:

:cheer2: Happy 4th of July!!!:cheer2:

We went to my MIL's about 3pm and hung out with some family we haven't seen in a while. It was nice. Then we headed to the lakefront by that playground area (David dr area??) and laid out a blanky on the back of levee in anticipation for Treasure Chests fireworks. My BIL works for Treasure Chest and told us the time they were having thier show. We got there about 8:50pm, sat next to a guy with a MONKEY, and watched the awesome display for about 20 minutes.
We stuck around for the crowd to die down and for the kids to roll down the levee about 25 times. It was sorta romantic to do this as we haven't laid out on a blanky to watch fireworks at the lakefront in a LONG time:flower3:.

We are now home and the kids are showering to get all the grass out of thier hair!!!

Lori

Good Morning Nola.

I hope you all had a great 4th. We went to our local fireworks display last night at the lakefront (Mandeville). I think they could take a lesson or two from Disney on how to put on a great show. It was rather dinky. We got home in time to see the fireworks on TV from Boston. Now that was truly a spectacular show.

hey all - hope you had a great 4th! Went to BR and let dd stay overnight - they went to the riverfront in Baton Rouge and got to watch from my friend's husband's office there...I was on the 12 mile bridge heading into NO as the Treasure Chest and downtown fireworks were going off! every time I am on that bridge I am reminded about how I love this city and why I chose to come back! THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME!!!!

and as a granddaughter, daughter and wife of veterans (Coast Guard, Army, Marines) a heartfelt THANK YOU to all who have ever served and sacrificed for our freedom!!

Hey y'all,

We had a nice weekend too. Went to my Aunt's on Friday. Yesterday DD, SIL & my Mom came to our house. We swam, grilled steaks & drank sangria, it was nice. No fireworks except for watching Boston's on tv.

Lori, Blanket at the lakefront! Boy does that bring back memories!

Have a good Sunday everyone!

HI all...We had a blast here too. The kids swam in the pool and used the water slide while the adults watched. We also played frisbee. Boy was that fun. We ended the day watching Boomtown's fireworks.

I bought myself a Hammock and boy have I been enjoying it!!!!;)

Okay - I was a bit of a martyr yesterday. My brother called and asked what I did on the 4th. I described caring for my father (which I am happy to do).

This by the way is my brother who is literally filthy rich. He lives on the beach in Malibu (has 2 houses - one for guests but not me). Diana Ross lives on one side and Dick Clark on the other.

He never does a thing for Dad - but he has to live with himself so I consider it his problem.

I know I sound horrible here, but I am venting so just ignore me.

I went and got a pedicure and manicure today - not something I do on a regular basis. I got the owner of the shop and he gave me the most wonderful food and hand massage.

I have to say that it really helped. I would not have thought so but it did. I have pathetic nails so it's not like I look great. It was just getting my mind off things.

Good for you! We need these little things to keep us sane. ;)

You DO NOT sound horrible, I'd feel the exact same way. He'd have a hard time dealing with me....:sad2:

We went to Hattiesburg for this tournament and Kyle was scheduled to pitch today's late game (3:00) at Southern Miss, the heavens opened and it was rained-out. He was so very disappointed.:sad1:
