Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Lori, your pictures are gorgeous. I was looking at them and everytime I'd see a new one, I was oooing and awwwing.

beautiful pics - looks like little birds with their mouths open in the bromeliad!!

well I changed each and every one of my reservations for food in November. decided to change days I was going to certain places...was petrified that all of the "good" times would be gone, but was pleasantly surprised! of course, I overcalculated again the number of nights we would be there - was struggling to get enough meals in - then realized we are only there 7 not 8 nights! whew - eating my way through Disney was starting to scare me! now I am just going to crunch the numbers to see if it is worth meal plan or will just pay on our own...I am so wanting to go to Disney right now - just can't handle the heat

Morning. Yes it is. So what's everyone's plans for the 4th? We are having a barbecue for about 10 people! What are your good recipes.

Hey Y'all,

The game was great! Astros beat the Sox 11-10! Big hitting game with no errors, it was really exciting! Love watching baseball in a suite, great seats plus someone constantly bringing me margaritas, baseball doesn't get any better than that! Spending so much for gas for just a quick trip was shocking. So we are considering flying for our Oct trip. If we book an extra on the road night, it's almost a wash between driving and flying.

Stephanie, Sorry to hear about your grandfather.

Lorie, Your plants are gorgeous! I don't know what kind of ginger lilies I have, but not a single bloom yet.

Lori, You two sure are busy jetting all over the country! So y'all have decided to do the podcast cruise, I'll have to mention in to DH again. ;)

Kathy, :thumbsup2 on the exercising! Microtel in Hattiesburg uh?! Try to control your excitement! ;)

I haven't replied in ages, but I have been reading. I hope everyone has recovered/gone home from hosp (that baby was adorable).

Stephanie - sorry to hear about your grandfather. Think of those beautiful pictures of the tropical flowers (those were great) when you need a peaceful moment.

Kathy - I know this is pages and pages back - but you must be so proud of Kyle - and he will be close to home so you can see him play more often.

My dad got moved to rehab last Friday so I've spend most of my time at the hospital or rehab. It's only 1 1/2 miles away here in Arkansas, but I sure liked Touro in New Orleans where I could walk over there - and the food nearby was better. Of course we always think about the food.

For those that haven't heard the whole story with my dad - here's the mini version. He had mini-stroke in New Orleans, had carotid artery surgery at Touro - was doing well enough to go home to Little Rock (we drove).

He had no paralysis but got progressively weaker and weaker - my sister took him to ER when I was out of town. He had a urinary track infection (which is quite hard on the eldery - Dad is 87).

He was hospitalized for about a week and then was sent to a rehab wing (like the one they have at Ochsner). He can walk, talk, sit up, etc but is so weak that he cannot dress himself and must use a wheelchair to go more than a few steps.

And now my sister who has been a great help just got diagnosed with gall bladder problems and will most likely be having surgery very soon. She had some pain, and it sounded a lot like gall bladder to me. A friend of hers does ultrasounds for a doctor and told her to come in and she would do one for her for free. That was so nice of her.

I think I should have gone to nursing school! By the way the nurses at Touro and at Baptist in Little Rock have all been just fabulous. I really appreciate them.

Good morning, its still very quiet around here.

I know, what's going on?

I have an awesome sweet & sour macaroni salad recipe that does well outdoors, no mayo!

I'll be sweating my butt off and chugging my water in the heat in Mississippi....:rolleyes1

Glad y'all had a great time!!

Thanks Tricia, we're very proud and happy!:goodvibes

Looks like you're going to have your hands full, I know from experience it's extremely hard being the sole caretaker, I'll keep you in my prayers.

Thanks so much Kathy. It really is hard to keep things in perspective. The rehab center prefers for them not to have visitors while they are doing the rehab sessions. I agree with them.

They don't forbid it but strongly suggest that friends and family don't stay around for the OT and PT. So then my dad will call and ask why I won't come see him. It's really so sad to see how quickly he has gone downhill. And not knowing whether this is it (probably) or if he will get some of his old self back.

I'd love that recipe - a good friend in New Orleans does not like mayo so I'm always trying to find things that I can fix for her when she comes over.

ITA about not going during rehab, but at the same time I can hear my dad calling and asking WHY????? It's a balancing act that cannot be perfected so don't even try. Just do what you can and if he's like my Dad (a fighter) he'll still have that spunk to jump on you every chance he gets.;) Please feel free to PM me anytime my friend.

Sweet & Sour Macaroni Salad (This is addicting)

1 (8 oz) pack elbow macaroni
3 medium carrots, scraped and diced
2 stalks celery, diced
1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium cucumber, peeled and chopped
1 large tomato, peeled and chopped
1/2 c. vegetable oil
1/2 c. cider vinegar
1/3 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper

Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain, rinse with cold water; drain again.

Combine macaroni, carrots, celery, onion, cucumber, and tomato. Combine remaining ingredients; mix well. Pour over macaroni mixture; toss gently. Cover and chill 8 hours.

Glad you all had a great time. Rick's been racking up MLB credits for tickets through Holiday Inn so I think we're looking at a Tigers game soon! woohoo!

Want me to work on Bob in October when we see ya?!? This'll be Rick's first cruise and I haven't been on one in 20 years so it'll be interesting. But, I'm sooo looking forward to it. More so I think than the WDW and DL trips in Oct. so wrong, I know.....:sad2:

going to Baton Rouge so dd can play with my college roomie's kids...then going to watch the fireworks at her husband's work on the riverfront in BR

I went to get my DN4 today in Prairieville and boy I enjoyed that new baby girl. She slept on my chest for about an hour. I am now thankful I can go there, enjoy the GOOD happy restful moments of my BROTHERS baby, then give her back for the night time feedings and poopie changes!
I do not regret my hysterectomy one bit, and it is a good feeling to me knowing I can hold a baby, one that I love, and not get those feelings like I used to years back after having Ashton. You know, the ones of wanting to try for #2, or 3 or whatnot. YES, I will tell you I do miss those sweet days, and I am thankful for the ones I had. I realize the difference b/t the pining for a baby and truly knowing in your heart that you are done, whether it is by choice or not. Just accepting it. Today was as close I have come to wanting that feeling and that smell in my house again, but know in my heart it was not for us any longer-that God said "no" to any more of our own. That is is better for my family anyway. That the pain and "other stuff" is behind me and I can actually focus on what is in front of me. I haven't had that focus in a LONG time. I am enjoying that reality coming back around. Yeah, it is hard to accept that I am not 28 any more:rolleyes1 . I just hope for me and my family's sakes, esp DH, that I do not dive off the deep end like my mom did! I told DH to lock me up in a closet if I showed the signs!!!:thumbsup2

Lori, If we can financially swing it, I won't have to press too hard! I'm going to go get all the details & see what we can do, I think it would be fun. We have both only cruised once, for DD's HS graduation. On Carnival, the "accessible" room was anything but, & there were ports that Bob couldn't even get off the boat. I'm sure Disney does a much better job. Bob did email Kevin, but didn't really get all the answers we needed. I'll look it to further & let you know1

Girl, I've been there on that! I was only able to have my one child, wanted more but it didn't happen. But then hyst. made me feel so much better, it made it easier to cope with. If you feel like you're getting nutty, go talk to the dr right away. the hormones could become an issue. Pm me if you need to vent. But other peoples babies can help a lot!! Alexis has surely filled a void for me!

Good morning NOLA.

I'll be heading across the lake today to take the kids to the zoo. It's been quite a while since we've been and it's high time we see all those four legged friends again.

Happy Hump Day Ladies...

Yes I too have been having that urge for another child. DD is 9 now so it would be like starting over. The past 2 days I have been cleaning out her old baby clothes...I will be moving to her baby furniture next.
This is too sad.:sad1:
