Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

Hey Y'all,

Whew, what a weekend! Bridal Tea, Alexis' music recital, Father's Day lunch, Alexis' Dancing Recital last night. I'm pooped!

Tricia, I am so sorry that your Dad isn't doing well! I feel sad for you handling this all alone! My prayers are with both of you!:flower3:

Lori, That was a Bethany sorta night! :lmao: too funny!

Bethany, I agree the WDW trip is going to be easier than planning the Thanksgiving visit!

The tea at Windsor Court was soo nice! If we are ever looking for a fancy thing for a get-together that would be fun! Alexis recital was held at the new Mahalia Jackson Theatre. It's very nice, but to see the Municipal Auditorium just sitting there ruined is just too sad.

Hey y'all!

I am sooo tired....I knew about the round the clock feedings, but man, this is killing me! He eats every 2-3 hours like clockwork. Todd takes one middle of the night feeding, but I still wake up during that time anyway. Blah, pass the coffee!

And to rub salt in the wound, Disney has sent both Todd and I pin code emails for the fall. :sad2: Fantastic deals too! There is no way I am taking a baby under six months of age though, so that is definitely out. Murphy's Law says that when we are ready to go next year that there will be no deals to be found, I bet!

Bethany- No seafood, Voodoo, haunted, or cemetery stuff in New Orleans? That is like planning a beach vacation for someone that is allergic to the sand and sun! :rotfl2: I'll have to think about that.... Yeah, planning for Disney will be much easier!

Sheryl- Sounds like a great weekend!

Lori- A Bethany kind of night- :rotfl:... actually, I have them too!

Poor Mom, I wish I had some words of advice but I only had one child and can't imagine how you Moms do it.

 That sounds exhausting. At least you can get good coffee down there. I'm almost completely out of coffee. I'm going to have to stop at Dunkin Donuts on the way to work.

Today I was thinking about you walking through the park. The one by me that I walk through to get to the bus has a few inches of standing water in it, and I got a ride part way home today and that one has like a foot or more of water in places. No park-walking going on up here. :headache:

Sorry about the unusable pin codes. ONE TIME I got a pin code I could use. I am wanting to go for a weekend in the fall when all the WFD people are going and it'll be like $800 for what would be only 1.5 park days. I just can't do that. :sad1:

I've missed your posts....they are too funny! :rotfl2:

I am looking forward to July 11th when I FINALLY get to meet a lot of you!

Just remembered...tomorrow is Tuesday. The science teacher comes on Tuesdays. I wonder what FUN THINGS we will learn about tomorrow! :rolleyes1

My dad gave me an assignment. To plan the next family trip to WDW for June 2010 and present him with the planned scenario when he comes down for Thanksgiving. :rolleyes1

Now that's a great assignment to be given. You'll have fun planning that one out. Good luck.

Tricia I'm so sorry about your dad. He's in my prayers.

This morning I have to take Gracie to the Vet for her annual shots. Shhhh I didn't tell her yet so she won't get scared. This afternoon Kendall needs to get a physical for cheerleading. It looks like it will be a day of Dr's for us.

How about those Tigers? I had to leave half way through the game to bring Kendall to gymnastics. I called home once and we were losing 6-4. When we got home it was tied 6-6 so we got to see the end of the game. :woohoo:
LSU

GM ladies....i have a slight headache, ugh....

Hope everyone has a good day and stay cool.

hey gals!

yes it is HOT!

I finally got to sleep intoday-like it's been 2 weeks since I have been able to:woohoo:

Anyway, I looked at flights for our trip and they have really good prices available. DH has 1 free SWA and 1 free United flight available- so he was thinking he'd do the United one that has alayover in DC(from NOLA) and I'd take the SWA one with the kids.

So, we'll see. We are gonna talk abotu it when he gets home tonight or tomorrow considering the LSU game will bedone by that time and I am sure he'll be wanting to see the post game stuff, the news about it, etc:laughing:

We have heard NOTHING about our other option so we have to move forward:mad:. I am thinking today would be the absolute last day-that we should hear either way. Through all of this we have learned about ourselves:
1. that this is home
2. that we'll be looking to come home no matter where we live
3. that leaving our church is gonna be rough but we will be back for VBS(we have many families that do this each year-it's THAT good!) and for Christmas Eve service.
4. Houston IS close enough for a weekend trip home

How come we never REALLY knew this before? I guess it's one of those things about not appreciating where you are already. We have always been open to moving and I am not sure WHY now. Maybe we just needed a view of life NOT here to see what we'd be missing. And heck, we are turning 40 this year, do we make career moves or family moves?-I know they can go hand in hand. DH thinks I can answer this for him or give an opinion- and I have , sort of, but he really needs to be the one. I am really fine wherever we are all together. But we agree that THIS is home, where we want to be. And like when we were in Dallas, we'll be looking for a way home a few months before contract is fulfilled.

I have a new found love for HOME, and I am hoping we can stay. But if not, I KNOW we'll be back soon to fall back into our old lives that we love.

Lori

Hey Y'all,

Lori, I'm sorry that things still aren't clear one way or the other. Prayers for all the decisions & turmoil you & Paul are dealing with. :flower3:

Nothing much going on here. All my girls are taking off tomorrow. DD is heading to Seattle for a friend's wedding. Alexis, Chris & Rickie are heading to Bama beaches.

How bout them Tigers!!! :cheer2:

But why does Tiger Ball (base or football) give me knots in my stomach! I thought I was going to puke before that game was over.

Hope you're feeling better.

I'll pray that things clear up for y'all.

Not sure why, but it does it to me too.:sad2:

Hi gang...I am feeling much better now.

I have joined a 10K a day team here at work.....which means I have started working out again. Man do I feel good. Additoinally I have joined WW to see if this will help me in my quest to loose 30 lbs.

Aww, Lori, I'm sorry you're not getting the answers you're wanting. I just know my dad always told us "follow your opportunities, even if they take you away, because home will always be here. You can always come back home."
He passed up what he later learned was a career-defining move because he didn't want to leave the bayou. Hindsight's always clearer, but I think he's always regretted not being braver in expanding his world.

I know it'll be tough if you have to move, but Houston's not that far, and you have LOTS of reasons to venture back this direction. I have no doubt you & DH will succeed where ever this journey takes your family.

Kathy - I thought about you during the game last night, wondering if Kyle's ever had the chance to play ball against some of those awesome Tigers. Have you seen any of those players during their high school or summer league games?

Piglet - It's getting really close now, isn't it? Be sure the sunglasses, sunscreen & light, comfortable clothes are in the 1st bag to be unpacked. Hopefully this roasting heat will break before you get here!

Lorie - Are you getting a few naps in that schedule? Hang in there - it does get better. I remember those days...just when you got done changing / feeding / burping / putting down, it seemed like it was time to start all over again. Don't let yourself get too exhausted.

Lori, have you considered renting out your house to your sister since you plan to return?
I was wondering about this too....my cousin did this years ago and it worked for them. They moved to Florida for better job opportunities but decided to lease their house because they knew they wanted to come back. When the opportunity arose, they had their hoouse to come back to.

I'm trying to get naps in, but it's hard. He's really alert in the afternoon when DD is taking her nap, and she is awake the rest of the time. If I can get their sleep schedules coordinated it would be ideal for naptime for me! But I have managed to get a few little naps in here and there.

And that is exactly what it feels like- changing/feeding/burping/putting down- all of the time! Like one big circle. And, forgive me, my life is all about baby body fluids right now, but this baby is a super pooper. I can't even tell you how many diapers I am going through in one day- it is unreal. The other day, he hit me with a trifecta- he peed, pooped, and spit up on me all at the same time while he was on the changing table. :sad2: DH never laughed so hard in his entire life. I was like, OMG, this baby is spontaneously combusting! Exorcist baby!

Monique - Oh yes! We are real good friends with Matty Ott and his family and Kyle has also played with and against Mikie Mahtook, Austin Nola, Grant Dozar and a few others. Also my neighbor's son used to pitch and is now an asst pitching coach - Kyle Beerbohm.

Hi fellow NOLAeanians! I just returned from a 2 week stay in NOLA & I'm missing it already. Thankfully, mom & sis are leaving Terrytown to meet me at WDW in a few weeks. Oh man, I'm craving fried oysters and gumbo & it hasn't even been a full 24 hours!

LORI- DH & I lived in Houston for a year after Katrina (while DH was finishing med school) and the drive back to LA was very do-able. Check out a few of our favorite Houston places for New Orleans/Louisiana specialites:
1. Brennan's of Houston http://www.brennanshouston.com/ (This Brennan's restaurant was temporarily closed after Ike, but it should be reopening soon. They have a HUGE mound of complimentary pralines at the door. Plus, join their e-mail club for free valet.)
2. Crescent City Beignets at 3260 Westheimer: The beignets are yummy (not as superior as Cafe du Monde or Morning Call, but a really good substitute). They also had poboys on Leidenheimer bread, cafe au lait, etoufee, and gumbo.
3. Woodrow's Bar http://www.woodrows.net/index.html This was a great place to meet for LSU games & it was always filled with Tiger fans during football season.
4. Pappadeaux http://www.pappadeaux.com/location/?id=16 Okay, this restaurant is a Houston-owned chain, but the food was still considerably good. We ate lunch a few times and feasted on their boiled crawfish once. All in all, it was good when I needed a fix.
5. Raising Cane's http://www.raisingcanes.com/locations/results.php?state=TX Yes, there are a few Houston locations now! We made a 1 hour drive once b/c they had just opened & DH had a serious craving, but now they have 2 locations. Dip the Texas toast in some Cane's sauce for us!
**I also think a "Corks N Canvas" will be opening in Houston soon: http://corksncanvas.com/index.php Plus, HEB's Central Market offers fun 3-4 hour long cooking classes http://www.centralmarket.com/Cooking-School.aspx (I know HEB isn't a NOLA thing, but it is fun.)

I completely agree with you that Louisiana will always be home, but little things can make the transition much easier. Best wishes!

Lorie, I think we all understand life being all about baby body fluids! I never had a boy, but years & years ago I did daycare for 2 baby boys. I still think that the pee in the face is just about as icky as it gets!

NOLA Tink, Welcome! I'm happy & surprised to hear that Cane's now has several Houston locations.

Bethany, LSU is down 5-1, if you are still awake, please go to sleep!!!

Oh thank you!!

But I feel sad all over again. I had more hope than I planned.

I SOOOO remember those days ....

and the issue with renting to my sister is the whole money vs family thing. They cannot NOT pay us , even 1 month. We were wanting it to be legal so it wasn't b/t us. DH just don't trust her enough yet, and to be fair, I am not sure i do either. She has done some doozies in her life and lied a LOT and even though we forgave, it is hard to trust her. And we know that her DH has a repossessed car in his past and we really don't know him well enough-he is 30 and has been at home and then with my sister and my dad. They have been very stable for a little over a year, and she SEEMS like she has done a great job with thier finances. I guess we could take a chance and give her the benefit of the doubt. I will tell you this though- I really don't think they would default on us b/c my sister looks at my DH like a dad and really respects him. He is the only guy in her life that gave her limits. DH and I started dating when she was 6, so he's known her her whole life. Through my parents divorce, we were the stable ones for her. She lived with us for about 4 months in her senior year, and she made the best grades of her schooling years. She got prego out of wedlock and we helped her with Gabbi, she asked us to take her if she died and be her godparents.

We're just not wanting to let go, but at the same time, would LOVE to have them here-but would be worried about them paying up on a rough month or a layoff, or whatnot. My sister does not even have her GED. But she has a good job now with a oral surgeon and has done well for herself in the past couple years.

We have SOOO much to talk about when he gets home, but for tonight we will enjoy the rest of the game!

Heck, i may have that last Purple Haze in the fridge.

OMGoodness, you are SUCH a blessing! Thank you! We used to go to Pappadeauxs in Dallas to watch the games!

What field is he going into?? I have a friend whose sister is in Houston for her hubby to finish up a cardiology fellowship-then they'd like to come home too!
