sheesh...I've gotten 2 summons since Dec '07. Our population is still so small that they aren't letting anyone out of it (we all used to get out of it every time pre-K), but they always end up cancelling at the last minute. Great, except you've already had to upheave your schedule "in case".
I've gotten more than two summons since then. I've gotten a series of Grand Jury summons and a series of regular ones. I did serve regular jury duty back in January for 3 days and now I'm not eligible to serve for 4 years. There's an info line I'm going to call on Monday but I may have to go in to give proof.

It says: "YOU CAN NOT SERVE AS A JUROR IF: ...... you are not a resident of Bronx County....If you are claiming any of the above reasons, please bring proof with you." Now...how many people are living other places that are going in and providing proof they live somewhere else?
Our population is NOT small, yet in the Bronx they are still having trouble finding the population to support the courts.

They told us you can only serve once every four years, and they used to try to stretch it to 6 years between service, but they are so stretched for qualified people that you basically have to serve every four years.
That is great news about the January trip! TWO TIMES now I have been typing a reply on your trip report and the site goes down.

And I noticed you're down in double digits!
I got called last January, which i had to go IN and tell them I couldn't do it b/c i homeschooled. They don't let us call, so you haveta go sit for a couple hours to write them a notecard why you can't do it, then the judge comes back like an hour later and excuses or denies you. I sent in a letter, but they said I still had to come in.
They said I'd get called back in summer and by God, I was called back un June last summer! I was hoping I'd get shoved to the bottom of the list again-but no.
I made a cake tonight and it is tragic-I have never had a cake completely falls apart on me before-I left that to my mom! This one will be glued together with almond flavored icing. I just hope non one notices and it tastes good. It is a butter recipe yellow with chocolate b/t layers and white almond icing all over. I am not sure how much time I will have to decorate it. I sorta wanna LSU it up. It may belong on cakewrecks- I'll take a pic!!
Today was the 1st time I told someone that I am doing this to possibly keep me home. It was wierd and scary to say it.
Happy daddy's day to your hubby's!!
Lori
PS- I also love that mixer- my stiff icing did not break it-it whipped right through. I had NO idea hand mixers could be that good. I was thinking I was stuck with breaking mixers or having to shovel out $300 for a nice Kitchenaid. I think my 15 year old one was probably a $10 or $15 one!! But hey, I got a LOT of cakes made and carrot souffle's , etc made with that thing!
Here, the first time you defer, you can do it by automated phone system (for regular jury duty - not grand) and you don't even need to give a reason the first time. You input a date into the system up to 6 months in advance and then sure enough, right on schedule, the 2nd one arrives!

Why are these the only things actually getting through the USPS?!? Although....a LOT of people here act like they never received them. They are not certified or tracked in any way, so people just toss them and act like nothing happened. I may just do that this time since the legal route has clearly not been working to have them leave me alone...
Yes, I need a picture of this cake! And the mixer please....
So tonight I am having an impromtu sleepover and have six boys. Boys are such strange creatures... they are so different from girls. They all fell asleep at midnight (as soon as the DS batteries ran out) and they made a map of my house for fun?!
So, my babysitter won $25,000 at Boomtown and is going to WDW! I am so happy that it happened to her, and shocked cause she is not a gambler. She is asking for my help with the planning. They are planning to go the same week we are.
They made a map of your house...

We used to do stuff like that...but not of our house. We'd design our own buildings and cities and stuff on car trips (when we weren't drumming

).
"Do you know the difference between you and all the millionaires in this country? They decided they WANTED to be millionaires and went out and DID IT!"

I was reading this about the $25k and this stupid commercial came on the radio. If it was only that easy!
I want to go to WDW...I want to go for a long trip though...like a week. The last several trips I've been have just been weekend trips and they are SO SHORT! You miss half of Sunday dealing with the airport and flight, and you start Saturday out exhausted from getting in so late on a Friday night after working so I'm not sure these short trips are totally worth it. Not to mention, the way WDW sets up their pricing, the longer trips make more $$ sense too.
wow Cara, that is great! I am heading to bed. I feel like I will never be able to sleep in again. I am soooooo missin' it!
I have helped 3 people in the past month make thier WDW plans-it has made it easier to get around the kids finding out why I have my passporter and my binder out, and why I am checking times on the iTouch app i have. I heard Haley tell Ash that she thinks we are going, but I blew it telling her I was just helping friends-and didn't even have to lie!
Everything in our lives is so ??????????????????????????????? right now, but I think WDW is in the bag. I do not want to go into debt for it, even for the last bit I need to save up, but after this crazy year, I am not sure I care all that much. All I can say is that I am glad that my kids aren't souvenir happy, b/c they usually save for it and since we haven't told them......

- but they'll be thrilled to be able to go at all. we have 2 free flights and will be looking into buying 2 more this week to see if it is worth it. 1 flight has a DC layover, but SWA is straight. I can fly with the girls and he can take the longer flight. we can meet up at the hotel. hey, free is free!
Why can't you sleep in? And that is funny that they are on to you....but good job playing it off!

That is great about the free flights and all....but a layover in
DC?

And what city do these flights you are looking at originate in?
So I was not planning on getting up quite this early since I was chatting it up on Facebook last night till 1:30, but I had a wild dream so just got up. I was in Central Park taking pictures and I look up and see three little tornadoes over a different part of the city and I was like "WOW look at that!" And the three tornadoes combined into one big one, but it was like a mile or so away so I was still watching it. But then, someone was facing me with this look of horror on their face so I turn around to see another tornado but it was right across the street from us!

(You'd think I would have heard it?

) So I start screaming "Where's the train?!? Where's the train?!?" (Needing to get underground, ya know...) and someone goes "There's one over there!" (like right next to the tornado) and I go "No! That's the uptown! I need the downtown!"

(And even while I'm dreaming, my mind is thinking "dumba$$....just get ye underground!"

) So I start running, trying to find the other station because they are usually across the street from each other and right when I found it to run to, I woke up.
Okay, I'm off to deal with the paperwork...I took it all out of the file cabinet and put it in a plastic file bin to move it but some of it is still unsorted. Charming way to spend a weekend, no? At least it's still raining so I don't feel like going outside. I'll think "oh, it's not raining too hard" but then a downpour will roll through, then lighten up again, then hard rain, soft rain, .... I think in the last month we've gotten just about all variations of rain.
And...check it out!
NINE DAYS!!! SINGLE DIGIT DANCE!!!

And
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!
