Do OTU points come from only declared or mixed declared and undeclared? Either way DVD is sitting on piles of points between Poly, Fort Wilderness, and remaining Riviera. Even if they needed to be declared points they'd just declare more to make more money from the system.
I'm pretty sure it is from declared but remember Disney holds 2% of those declared points for their rental purposes

They come from declared inventory that DVC owns....but they have at least 2% at each resort, not to mention points they have from ROFR, foreclosures, etc.

They would not declare more points to sell for OTU points because they make way more money renting those rooms to cash guests...but, there should not be a shortage of OTU points....they would have not created this program with the BOGO free deal if that was even an issue..

The T & C are the legalize of it all!

Thanks! They do have many points. AKL, OKW, and Saratoga are combined over 30 million points. Just from those 2% means 25,000 MMB members could be allocated (between purchase and bonus) full 24 points. I think gives some idea that MMB can accommodate many members who want OTU points, and that availability is unlikely to be a problem. If DVC starts seeing numbers indicating over demand in the future we'll see OTU point price increase before seeing a cap on MMB membership number.

Those 2% of points are also to be used by Disney when rooms are out of service because of maintenance & repairs, for planned refurbishments at resorts, etc. I have no idea if they're bound to borrowing&banking rules similar to us. Can they bank their 2% for 10 years and then do a refurbishment where 20% of the rooms are unavailable for a year?

I've never used OTU points before, but with the MMB discount, maybe I'll give it a shot next year.

The 2% is points DVC can rent out and appears as the breakage income in the dues statement

Ok, so I called MS to ask the following questions about DLand tickets:

1) What days are peak and what days are non-peak for DLand?
2) What tickets would a wholly unused ticket be eligible to upgrade to (as stated in the terms and conditions)?
3) Is the member who purchased the discounted ticket required to purchase a ticket for themselves if purchasing for others? What if they already have a MK/AP?

Answer after being very nice and reading through all of the small print: “Those are great questions and I can not find the answers to them right now, but I will bring it up to my team and see if we can get the FAQ updated when we do and make sure that those questions are in the training before the program goes live on January.”

So, that tells me that we aren’t missing anything and that we need Disney to give us some clarification. My MK expires at the end of Feb, so I have the flexibility to wait until then.
Thanks for asking the questions I think are on all of our minds! The Disneyland tickets are a good deal, but sometimes we are there on a Saturday/Sunday and it would be nice to be able to upgrade to a weekend day for some reasonable rate. But this will most likely save us money - or at least give us some predictability without having to hope when we want to go is during a ticket offer!

When it come to incidental benefits, they are always going to put that language in place because things happen and it covers them legally.

The AP is offered by Parks division and if they stopped selling them, DVC can’t sell them to a member for points.

They have to make it clear that things could change.

I do not expect DVC to do that. Program aside, they can stop selling OTU points at any time. I do think it being a paid program actually makes it less likely they stop unless it’s out of their control.
Or they may limit OTU points to paid membership only. For that matter, they could move all “membership” extras to ONLY the paid option.

Not sure it makes sense financially for them into this program only because keeping them available to all, at full price, makes them money.

The question though was about this program and its terms and conditions and what it might mean.

Since incidental benefits are not part of the contract, they can come and go…they are legally obligated to make sure those purchasing it know.

A little more than frustrated. Got an imo misleading email selling me the “today is the day.. enroll today…”

I get it that benefits start on 1/12/25. Use years start on specific dates too but Ive always been able to make a reservation ahead of time - that’s the premise of dvc- plan ahead and save. Bought membership magic the other day. We’re going to Hawaii on 1/13 and found availability but needed the one time use points to complete reservation.

Called and one time use points not discounted till 1/12. So had to purchase them at $20.

There’s no even remotely reasonable path to use this benefit on 1/13/25. I purchased the one time use points at $20/each to complete my reservation. The only reason I purchased and enrolled is no longer a benefit that I can use. The one time use points are now purchased for the year at the non discounted $20/point rate. I don’t get my money back on the membership magic as the purchase of membership magic and beyond is non refundable. It was a misleading $99 money grab from dvc.

I get it, but at the same time it was probably worth a phone call for a non-refundable purchase if there was ambiguity. There has to be some personal accountability.

I’m sorry that you misunderstood how this would work.

The email stated that benefits wouldn’t start until January 12th, so DVC was pretty upfront about that part.

If I purchase MMB and then after 1/12 buy 12 OTU points, can I then use the 24 points for a reservation for Jan 2026? I will need extras points for a planned trip that month but if I have to wait to buy the 2025 MMB in dec 2025 it will be too late. The benefit period is for buying the points, not the date of the reservation, correct? (Sorry if this was discussed as I haven't read the whole thread)

Once you buy, you will have from Jan 12th until the end of the year to access the benefits.

The rules for OTU points remain the same…you can buy them for any trip you are booking 7 months or less…the trip does not have to take place during the benefit period, only the purchase.

So, you can buy them to make a January 2026 reservation in June 2025…June 2025 is still within the benefit period so you wkll pay for 22 to get the 24!

When is your use year? You may still be able to take advantage of the discount for next year as you just have to be making a reservation 7 months out on the last day 12/31/25 so that would be for a check-in date of 7/31/26

Well technically the 7/31/26 is accurate but that wouldn’t stop me from making a dummy reservation to get the OTUP in the benefit period. You then cancel the reservation and still have the OTUP

Yes I was just pointing out the length of time is significant so the OP should still be able to take advantage of the discount even though it didn’t work out for the Aulani trip.

You right that they might be able to still get the benefit if they have a trip in their next UY and can buy it before the year ends.

A message for all the internationals reading this thread. Make sure you email your rep or call MS to let them know you would purchase this if allowed. There are so few of us that we could never make enough noise online for them to change the rule unless a large group of us contact them directly.

It’s really put a sour taste to DVC ownership, I don’t feel part of the club anymore, I’m just part of an insignificant afterthought

I’ve spoken to them but they just agree with you and then nothing happens

I’ve stopped posting much on various forums. They’ve sucked my Disney joy away, not sure how to get that back
