Membership Magic Beyond

Considering there's no reason to buy now I hope people reading this and on the fence decide to wait until we have more information to fill in the gaps.

I bought because I assumed that direct points would be required and those are the one I planned on using.

But, if the tickets were a part of it, definitely a reason to see if we get more clarification. I have not yet read the full FAQs about those yet because it’s not something I probably will end up using.

Ok, so I called MS to ask the following questions about DLand tickets:

1) What days are peak and what days are non-peak for DLand?
2) What tickets would a wholly unused ticket be eligible to upgrade to (as stated in the terms and conditions)?
3) Is the member who purchased the discounted ticket required to purchase a ticket for themselves if purchasing for others? What if they already have a MK/AP?

Answer after being very nice and reading through all of the small print: “Those are great questions and I can not find the answers to them right now, but I will bring it up to my team and see if we can get the FAQ updated when we do and make sure that those questions are in the training before the program goes live on January.”

So, that tells me that we aren’t missing anything and that we need Disney to give us some clarification. My MK expires at the end of Feb, so I have the flexibility to wait until then.
Thanks for taking one for the team and calling.

Question for you. I have never upgraded a ticket, I feel like Ive read you have to upgrade in person, am I wrong?

You can call to upgrade a wholly unused ticket.

For WDW, we changed from a 6-day to a 7-day when they moved our return flight from 8am to 8pm. Total cost : $20 per ticket.

Okay awesome, maybe I was thinking upgrading to MK or something.

Basically the same response I received the other day down to “Those are Great Questions!!”

I've gotten quite the run-around on upgrading from a regular ticket to a Magic Key at Disneyland. Last January, we were told, and online wording stated, they would not issue any MK in person, they had to be purchased online - which was obviously false since many people purchased them onsite that day. I explained this to the CM and was told would need to use the unused ticket in the Park that day and IF there were MK available then convert it, but I did not want to drive for hours and go on that day just to risk a ticket. Sometimes they are truly hardasses about their rules - which might be in direct conflict with another of their rules. And this is my "kind" version of how that day went lol.

Sooo many rules.

If I was not already a FL resident with access to a lot of discounts I would buy the new add on. We have never bought one time use points and I don’t see us doing so in the future since we have enough for our travel. If I was planning a conversation of points to a cruise or Disney collection it would be worth it to do the $99 fee instead and get the lounge priority access which would be the only thing we would use most likely.

Yes, you need to be in the park using that ticket to upgrade to a MK if it’s available.

If not, then you can just leave the ticket unused and it will roll forward. You can also reassign it to someone else.

@erionm was right. I had to call MS.

They said only the person buying it would get the lounge access and would be required to be there. If I was doing laundry in the room they could not jump to the start of the line. Also I would have to call MS to get the tickets and OTUP. I was informed my SO could purchase it if they wanted priority lounge access. We could also get 8 more DL & 8 more WDW tickets and MM for SO. SO could buy more OTUP if we owned a contract that qualified for membership extras in a different use year.

We only have one use year so SO will be dragging me through the park to get to the lounge I suppose as we would not take advantage of more tickets.
Well the solution is to get another membership! 😉

In my experience, ticket upgrades also depend on the source of the ticket, how it was purchased...etc. Last year I wanted to add a day to a 2-day Disneyland ticket I had purchased (at a small discount from Undercovertourist). I was told that effectively I could puchse a 3-Day ticket (at in-person gate pricing) and have the value of the 2-day ticket applied (effectively losing the small discount I had gotten). There was no way just to "upgrade" to pay the difference for the additional day.

IMO it also comes down to the CM you talk to.

Some are more savvy in how things work and how things could and should be done.

I've experienced more than once when trying to bridge a ticket, that the price varied from CM to CM.

Yea that is what someone a little up reported as well.

What CC did you use? I wonder if it codes as travel like it does when buying OTUP.

Mine just shows "Disney Vacation Club" as I used a discounted GC for purchase.
I used my Chase Disney card, and now that has gone from a pending charge to a posted charge, I see that it is coded as "Travel"

I struggle enough managing all of our contracts under one use year. I don't know if I could handle a second one :)
I have setup a second membership ID with the same name and same use year (at the time of a resale purchase) - but they don't do it without a fuss ;) you do run the risk they will make you use up your one transfer in/out per year if you need points moved around. So it's something you'd have to consider carefully.

You mentioned resale. They wouldn't let us purchase the MMB if that membership ID didn't qualify for Membership Extras. Does the second membership ID qualify since it is the same use year?
