Does DCL refund/give credit for your cruise since you showed up at the port but you didn't actually sail?

I’m afraid that at some point DCL will stop giving refunds. We have insurance but it only repays 80% of the trip and of course you lose the insurance premium. We would probably give up at that point. It has taken us a year to arrange sitters for our farm and various pets. I don’t think we would ever cruise again, or at least until all testing is over.
I’m afraid I’m feeling sorry for myself but right now I would say the trip is overshadowed by all this stress, even if we do manage to get aboard. And to put things in perspective there are so many people suffering far worse trials today than missing a vacation.

PP who said that adds insult to injury, that is exactly how I see it too. Do they have no idea the relief people feel once they're cleared to board?

Before our WBPC cruise in March, I declined every invitation to do anything with anyone except a very small dinner gathering of 18 people for my dad's 80th birthday, for about 1 month prior. We even cancelled our plans for doing any kind of touring around NOLA, figuring that will all still be there later and we can visit some other time with a trip not connected to cruising. I was a maniac about it and drove dh and my family crazy. We lucked out that in early March covid numbers were super low and I don't think anyone was denied boarding.

That is absolutely cruel. I'm glad your son is feeling well and hope you get another opportunity to take your cruise.

- We are taken a bunch of rapid tests, what happens if anyone in your party reports a positive to DCL prior to board date (1 or 2 days beforehand), do you still get refunded?
- Did you have a choice of quarantine hotel? Who pays for the hotel?
- I assume quarantine means not leaving the room for 7 days, correct? (a nightmare scenario with kids)

DCL still has the Flexible Refund Policy in effect, which allows guests to change the date or cancel without penalty if impacted by Covid within 14 days of sailing.

I just read through it from the link you posted. I will take a bunch of at-home kits ,and test the family the night before and morning-of.
I'd rather chose my quarantine hotel, than have Disney chose it for me.

We did this on our B2B trip (working on trip report now)-- took home tests with us and did one the night before, as well as during the cruise, just to monitor things. I keep hearing people say how stressful not knowing is-- and I get that-- so for me, knowing what the current test shows is helpful in a way.

I have little faith in the rapid antigen tests. The day before I tested with a PCR test, I did a rapid which came back negative. Still pursued the PCR test a day later which came back positive. There is a higher incident of false negatives with the rapid. It takes more antibodies present to detect than with a PCR.

I doubt that would happen so long as they require Covid testing to board. It would seriously keep people from cruising. Who would want to gamble that much money on a cruise? The genius of the refund is that they 1.) lower onboard incidents and incentivize people to be honest; and 2.) they attract more people to cruise than the loss of those fares (which aren’t really loss because many people will just take the credit or rebook a future cruise)

So we leave for Rome next Friday for our cruise on the 27th. Talked to my travel agent today and DCL policy is generous. We can cancel with no penalty now since my husband has had Covid within the past two weeks and can up until next Tuesday. He is getting his certificate of recovery this week. He wasn’t home when he tested positive so quarantined 1000s of miles away. However he was at home the two days prior.

Myself and my sons are testing every other day and plan to test daily in Rome until the morning of the cruise. Travel agent said that if we test positive the morning of the cruise then get it verified (can do this online). Rather plan my own quarantine location.

What?! You were already in your stateroom, eating on board, walking around the ship, that is unbelievable! How was there nobody around from Disney, when it is all Disney on the ship and you were on the ship! Wow, so sorry this happened! I think this shows port/boarding procedures were not at all up to par!

My thoughts too, as long as testing is here to stay cruiselines have to offer this. I personally would not be sailing if I risked losing all that money because of a positive TEST. Granted they could force the burden on insurance policies, but I dont know if they even cover that right now.. The risk for them is too high for a positive test already at port.. Maybe somebody knows if insurance already covers this.. I know if you are sick.. there are cancel for any reason.

How far out from your cruise are you? It needs to be 14/15 days prior to enter in the info.

I sail on Saturday. We did not have any issues; actually it was super super easy but I have heard some folks are.
