DH has recently begun using a wheelchair full time, due to degenerative joint disease. My question is this, do we need to let ME know in advance of the wheel chair? I do have to let the shuttle service we are using to get from home to the airport of the need for a wheelchair accessable van. I just want to make this as easy as possible for him.

Let DME know in advance and there will be no problems with accessibility.

As for the shuttle service at home, I think it's always safe to let them know in advance. Better safe than sorry. :goodvibes

YES!!!!! Not all coaches are equipped with lifts.

It's very important to let DME know that you'll need a lift-equipped coach. When at the airport, they have the luxury to pull from a stockpile of coaches in holding... but it's VERY important for your return trip, because it'll do you no good if they send a coach that does not have a lift.

Just on the safe side, I would request to be picked up 4 hours before your flight home (instead of 3) AND remind them several times that you need a lift bus. (Tell them when you make the reservations, call them and remind them when your tags come, remind them when you check in to DME at the airport, and remind them when your bus time shows up on your room door).

Then, even after that, if they accidently send the wrong type of bus, you'll still have time for them to radio and send the correct bus.

I flew Frontier last week with my mom and the flight attendants called ahead and someone was waiting at the gate to push her to the next gate. When we got home, they even pushed her to the baggage claim area.

It was a HUGE help.

This was the first time for us to fly with a wheelchair and I cannot begin to tell you how helpful everyone was.

I know your question was only for the transportation side of the trip, but I thought I'd let you know about the airport in case that might be helpful to you as well.
