MAY we interest you in a month of No Buy???

OK, I'm going for 9 no-buys this month (2 per week) and don't count groceries or bills...so hopefully I can do at least that many!

5/1: $79.95 software (80% off MSOffice 2010!), $21 groceries (spent $63 earlier this weekend on May groceries so now $516 left for the month); $32 Home Depot; $??? at pet store (we just got "free" goldfish so now we have to set them up, OY!), $11 at Modells (DS' bat bag, we have to go back tomorrow for the bat); $1 at Dollar Tree. Not a great start. Tomorrow I will be doing our monthly budget and menu. I have a good jump on the groceries. We're going to Springfield, MA for Six Flags New England one night of Memorial Day weekend - otherwise nothing big planned so hopefully we will be more on track. (We MUST be! I have tuition coming up for summer classes!)

I'm not entirely sure how this whole thing works, but my DH and I are doing a "no spend" May so 31 days of no purchases. This excluded gas (need it to get to work and I drive my car for work) and anything medical that may come up. I have stockpiled food that needs to be used up. We are sooooo close to having our credit cards paid off and may be able to get one completely paid off if we can pull this off.

Monthly Budget:
Groceries- $0
Eating Out-$0
Gasoline- $200

5/1- $51 gasoline

I definitely need to get back in...did well in January and then had a health issue that led me astray.....

hmmm goals for the month of May....

~stay on budget with bills
~10 $0 spend days
~out to eat 4 times max
~$75 week for groceries

yesterday my DH did the St Anthony's triathalon..we managed to spend $0 though as we had paid for everything prior to Sunday!! So we kicked off May right! We even ate dinner at home instead of eating out on the way home!!

5/1 $0

Hi Guys, I failed miserably last month after 15 good months in a row. Not with spending, but with recording. But I need you guys, I miss you all. So I am back for May.

Today is not a No Spend, tonight is our last bowling night (new league starts next week.) DH is in Vegas on business (well, tomorrow, today he is skydiving---as I type!) so my friend is going with me and we are going to dinner first.

I'm right there with you. I crashed and burned last month. I didn't spend. Just had NO Time to do Anything.
So, now I'm back for another month. Hopefully things have slowed down.
I'll repost with my budget shortly.

I'm in for another 10 this month. I made it to 11 last month so here is hoping I can do it again!!!! :woohoo:

5/1 Snacks at the gas station $8
5/2 shooting for a No Buy

I have been doing the $400 for the month as a whole, and I'm going to try something different this month just to see how it works. I'm going to try a limit of $40 for each 3 day period. $400/30 days is the same amount as $40/3 days over the month, but mentally it's a very different approach. I only have $40 to spend, but I only have to make it last 3 days! I have no idea if this will work or not, but it's worth a try.

1 - $0!

2 - $0 of cash - spent on gas

I have been doing the same thing sort of, but using $100 a week and whatever I have left at the end of the week, I just add up to $100 with it. It has been working good so far. I like the cash system!

:sad2:Unfortunately that is just gas for our car DH and i both use a tank a week and our price is horrific at the moment trying to cut my use down but i already only go to the shops when we go out for sport etc we homeschool but live out of town so i still use a tank a week:sad2: No heating cost included in that price wish there was.

The flights are to Dallas and we are driving the rest of the way but that is only what i have left they were $9050 from Perth Western Australia to Dallas there is 6 of us so even though it is  horrifying we actually got a good deal:) We are in the USA for 38 days WDW for 5 days Universal for 1. WDW tickets and room already paid for :dance3:

Thanks for your support have a feeling we will be needing it this month :upsidedow

A tank a week?! Times 2? :faint:

That sounds like a FANTASTIC trip you have coming up! Well, at least you got a good deal on the plane tickets! :scared: 38 USA days and only 6 are at Florida theme parks! That leaves just over a month to do other travel! I live in the States and have never traveled around for a month! That sounds like it would be a great experience. I'd love to hear about it! Is this your first USA trip? I'm guessing not since you know about the plane prices, but maybe it is.

I have been doing the $400 for the month as a whole, and I'm going to try something different this month just to see how it works. TOTAL: $44.50

I want to join!
There are always lots of days where we don't spend since I'm a SAHM and my husband works from home. What we're trying to do is cut the budget down! Groceries in particular. We had been spending well over $1000 a month for the three of us. I don't even know how. Anyhow... here's a partial budget. I'll tweak as I go.

Grocery budget -$600 (this is cutting our average spend in half!)

Gas - we don't own a car. If we buy gas the cost gets deducted from our tab, luckily.

Restaurants - $150 We used to spend a lot more but the only alright place to eat in our neighbourhood just lost us as customers - bad for those 'what to eat' nights, great for my budget!

Other - We go wrong here a lot too. Each month I never plan on spending that much but we always seems to drop $400-$600 on something we 'needed'. Last month we blew the budget by buying a wardrobe and getting the driveway redone. Ugh.

Savings - This number I want to grow! We should be saving way more as we are pensionless. With retirement, a toddler and little in an emergency fund we have got to save. Trying for minimum $500.

May Spend:
Grocery - $768
Transport - $53
Restaurants -$191 (mother's day weekend took a big chuck)
Other - $1560 (the ugly 'needed' thing this month wasn't so ugly: Disney flight! Also a new a/c, drill since ours died, home imp. stuff, medical... ugggg way too much)
Save: $500
(and $325 in giftcards the grocery store and a few other shops to get double points. I'm not going to count this as a spend but rather count it as a spend once I start using the cards).
