May 5, 2010 Magic of Barcelona

Things are slowly starting to pile up on my dining table...It takes me about a month or so to pack, lol.

We actually leave April 24th for Paris (well, Disneyland Paris!). So, not too far away! Certainly not too early to break out the suitcases...

NO NO NO NO NO!!!! It is far too early to pack!!!

We are going to Florida in 2 weeks and my DH has been bugging me for weeks to start packing. But why, what is wrong with doing it the day before? If you do it too early you just keep adding stuff you don't really need. :rotfl:

Yes, but when Armageddon hits and we're stranded, I will have plenty of travel toilet tissue rolls!

What?:rolleyes1

Ha, I suppose there is always that, lol!

*Note to self: make sure I know sabrecmc's room number in case of emergencies* :rotfl2:

Random FYI: When I called to order some gifts for our room from DCL, I ordered the 7 night classic wine package, which is what is listed on the DCL website. There is no 10 night option on the website. However, there is a 10 night option. It was like $292 total (with 15% gratuity, I think). You can't order a smaller package, which I was kind of hoping they'd let me order the 7 night, since that was listed. Oh well! I decided we'd just take it one night at a time. That was more wine than I really wanted to commit to, lol.

Yikes - that's like $29/ per bottle. I guess that's decent prices if you consider getting bottles of wine at restaurants.

wow, that is quite expensive for wine! why don't you do what I am doing and just bring like 5 bottles on with you? I am bringing wine and small bottled water from barcelona..will probably pay about $75 total for all of it, or even less.

We usually get the wine package on DCL. I'm thinking we'll probably still do it because we like wine with dinner, but it does seem like a lot. Was that with gratuity included in the price, or gratuity on top of the $292? Thanks for the update! That's good to know, since only 7 nights is posted on the website :goodvibes

I thought you would want to know the latest... we received a call today asking if we wanted to upgrade (from Cat. 6 to Cat. 4). DH knows all the details about the rooms and sizes, but it was a decent upgrade with more square feet- not just a higher deck. They were looking for some $$$, but just a fraction of the upgrade costs through normal booking.

Did anyone else get a call? Maybe we were suckers, but hey - we need as much space as we can get. Let me know what you hear. Maybe if we waited another week they would have just bumped us up?

That seems expensive for a bottle of wine. Can you not take some on with you? We are staying in Barcellona the night before and have been on google maps and found the nearest supermarket to our hotel, so will be taking a trip there before we board :) Also what about when we are on land, I'm sure there will be oportunitity to buy a few bottles in different places.

Not had a phone call yet about the room upgrade but then we are in a cat 12. I'm hoping we will get an automatic upgrade because there will be 4 of us in the room.

Has everyone done the characters call your character option. I had Goofy call my son and he was so excited. He tells them stuff about the cruise. You can have Goofy, Mickey, or Ariel call.

We have not received a call, but we booked cat 12 so they're probably starting at the top and working their way down. It's so hard to predict that waiting game, I've been waiting 5 months to book airfare, not a single change in that time! I'm going to give it 2 more weeks then just book...we have 7 going so even a $100 savings would add up quickly (maybe enough to afford an upgrade! :)) My plan was to get there early enough at port and see if we could upgrade at the port....but having a call would at least give me an idea of how much it would be. You'll appreciate the extra space on such a long cruise! Who knows, maybe by upgrading $$ category 4 you'll be bumped up to cat 3 at port! :)

Good luck!

And I don't know anything about character calls..where do you get those??
My kids would love it! :)

When I log into the DCL site with my reservation, it gave me an option towards the bottom of the page.

My understanding was that the $292 was the total with the 15% gratuity and the sales tax. That's not terrible for 10 bottles of wine at a restaurant, really, but I thought that was perhaps more than the 2 of us would really want to commit to. We will perhaps try to find some in BCN to bring onboard, but its not a huge deal. I don't mind paying for the convenience of not having to deal with it, but I couldn't see us realistically drinking 10 bottles of wine with dinner. When I thought I could order the 7 night package, that seemed like a really good plan. Alas...

Congrats! Do you know what room or is it GTY? We're in 8510 down towards the front of the ship under the spa. I'm not expecting an upgrade myself, but would love to have some neighbors!

We will be in 8074. Closer to the back. pirate:

:sad1: I don't see it on my reservations page - maybe it's only for castaway club members?

I can see it on my reservation page and I'm not a castaway club member. It is quite big at the bottom of the page, can't miss it. Unfortunately it is for American kids and not English  My DD would have loved it.

Thanks for the info. I rechecked it and logged in a little bit differently and I see it now. Can I just say I hate their website/reservation system that you have to enter the reservation # each time you log in?!?!:headache: You think for the money they make, they could design or integrate their systems better.

I got a call too about the upgrade from 6 to 4 for a little over $300, but we passed. I feel our room is good enough and I can spend that kind of money on something better.

I also tried to do the character call, but it's telling me I cannot select a date in the past and then I also get that the call must be betw. 7am and 9:45 pm. I'll keep playing with the times and dates, but so far no matter what I put in it won't accept it.

Maybe I can't even schedule the call until between 7am and 9:45pm. So I will try later.

People on the april 24 cruise in gty are geting crazy upgrades..i read about 2 people that went from cat 10 to cat 5 and cat 10 to cat 6.
