May 5, 2010 Magic of Barcelona

I was checking on DCL for inside staterooms for 4. Only shows cat. 4 now! I wonder if this means the ship's full or they've started to assign everyone.

Nix the first statement. I checked again ten mins later and cat 12 still avail. But they must be working on it!

I went on Carthage-Sid Bou... tour 10 years ago and loved it!! did go to medina but you don't have to go far in or you can hang around the outside of it. Just watch your pockets and don't go deep into a store/stall.

Thanks for the rec. Signed up for that Sidi-Carthage tour through DCL.

That's good to know about the cash passport, as well!

We're also booked on the Sidi Bou Said and Carthage tour. It looks really interesting :goodvibes

anyone know when we'll get our cabin #?
I see those on the transatlantic already have theirs assigned.
Can't be long now!

Fitnessmouse, did the 4/24 cruise get their assignments? I saw the TA getting their assignments (and upgrades!). Hopefully it will be soon!

I also wanted to pass on that I checked my hotel rates in Barcelona again and they had gone down a bit for both the hotel before and after the cruise. Since I'd booked a rate that could be changed/canceled, I was able to get the lower rate. Saved 20 Euros on the May 4th night at Le Meridien and 30 Euros on the May 15th night at the Renaissance Airport hotel. If anyone else is staying at those, check your rates!

Does anyone know anything about transfers from the terminal to the airport at the end of the cruise? I don't think I opted to pay for it via DCL and I'm too lazy to troll through the rest of the DISboards for previous cruiser's recommendations. :surfweb:

I think it should be soon. I just read where most times you have your room assignment at 30 days, but some people get it around 45 days.

I'm waiting to get get out flight assignments too, since we booked through DCL, but those won't come out until 45 days before sailing.

Thank you! I just saved 25 Euros at the Renaissance Airport Marriott for May 14th! Thanks for the tip!

I saw someone on another thread recommend www.barcelona-shuttle-service.com. I looked at their site and it seems reasonable for large groups. Not sure if you have only a couple of people though. I emailed them about carseats, since I couldn't find it on their website. I suppose in one of those larger vans, you don't need one, and I admit to taking taxis all around NYC without using one, but I'd still rather have it if possible.

Thanks - will look into that. I was on another site and it said that Spanish law requires carseats for children under 3 for vehicles with max 8 person capacity. So even if I get a minivan shuttle, I would still need to bring a carseat since they don't typically provide one. (I don't know how taxis get to be excluded.) I know it's bad but I'm pretty lax about carseats in countries other than the US - I really don't want to bring one just to use for shuttles. Ugh.

I know. We're not taking one this trip. My daughter is 4.5 and 43 pounds, so we don't need it for the plane. I'm just not lugging one around for the airport shuttle. I'm hoping the company will have some available, but I haven't heard back. I'll let you know if I do.

They are only offering gty rooms for most categories now. Only the lower categories do they allow you to choose an actual stateroom. So, either the boat is filling up or they just want you to gty a category. Most of the boat is gty now, but inside rooms are still available including cat 12 gty. If the boat was really full, they would not be offering cat 12 gty, but they still are. This tells me they will take anything they can get at this point. If the boat was full, you just would not see cat 12 gty offered any more, but you still do. What I really think is being that it is getting close to the cruise, they will begin to assign staterooms for all the gty people and they do not want people choosing staterooms and not following through with their total purchase. If they only allow you to gty a room, this takes any risk off of them in assigning rooms so your cat 12 gty room that will be assigned has not been reserved by someone already. I never sailed disney before, so I am not sure if this is a common thing or not, but I would bet it is. That is what I think at least.

Even cat 11 and 10 will no longer let you choose a room number, only in gty will they. I also tried on the april 24 cruise, same thing..they are only offering you gty rooms for almost every category. I find it hard to believe however they filled up the boats that were about 75% empty in only 3 weeks, but who knows.

I got a price yesterday from the Ferry Port to the Airport with www.barcelona-shuttle-service.com for 12 people (6 children and 6 adults) They quoted me 109.00 Euro for the single journey. I thought this was a bit expensive as it is only less than 20 KM for the journey. I haven't had time to look for other options yet but will do asap. If I find anything I will let you all know.

It may be a logistical nightmare but I'm wondering if it might be cheaper to group together and get one of those full-size buses - I saw that they offer it for 179 euro or so. I have 6 confirmed people in my group - possibly 12 also. How many on this board are going straight to the airport after the cruise docks?

What a good idea. If we could get a full size that bus then I would imagine we would be able to fill it. And less than 200 euros would work a lot cheaper.

We might be interested too. Are you leaving first thing in the morning? There will be four of us that need to go.

My flight is at 2pm so I have no issues leaving first thing in the morning - would rather be super early at the airport and wait than stress about missing the flight.
I'll put in a request and see if the bus is available.
