I tried the new coupon code with the VB contract. Something I found very interesting is that clicked on the Edit link to edit my pickup information before I actually completed the process and there was something interesting. There was a checkbox that said "Resident of Guatemala". So it seems that a requirement of the VB code is that you live in Guatamala? Perhaps. I was able to uncheck it and change it to the United States and then continued on and the rate did not change. The new coupon code along with VB still pushed CDW on a minivan for our dates. Can't ever get rid of the CDW for a minivan it seems.
I then decided to use the AS1 Product Code and when got to the page where it normally shows CDW Included for free on VB, it was not. Though it was in there but just charging me for it. I was able to remove it and the price using AS1 with the $50 off coupon is only $20 higher than with VB. I suspect if I started from scratch using AS1 I would not have to manually remove the CDW.
I also logged in as an Alamo Insider, so now our email confirmation shows "Rate reflects an Insider savings of $289.61". This was reported earlier by some others. So it seems that as long as you log in as an insider and use AS1 or TB1 product codes, it looks on the confirmation that you are using insiders rates. I found that the new confirmation today doesn't include a free additional driver where VB does. So just using a Product Code doesn't seem to give the free extra driver.
I was able to book another minivan one using a Costco contract ID, AD4004JDK coupon code and AS1 Product Code. The rate is the same, but it now includes an additional driver and still no CDW. Since Alamo Insiders codes don't include the additional driver, then it seems that option is driven off of the Contract ID. CDW is driven off of the Product Code. Product Code it seems is driven off of the Contract ID, except that you can manually force a Product Code without a Contract ID.
I am still hoping that Costco rates come down before our trip and we don't have to rely on crazy codes.
