May 2016 Car Rentals

Less than $100 at Dollar using Pay Now for 4/30-5/7 on economy to midsize. $138 midsize SUV, $194 STD SUV, $224 minivan. No codes or coupons.
Great news. Thanks for sharing. I just checked and dollar rates are not that affordable for my dates yet (5/19-5/26) but this gives me hope that they are coming in the next few weeks.

Those rates don't include taxes and other fees. The minivan goes up to $302 with taxes. Would have been a great rate if it was the final price.

Anyone looking for an alamo coupon code. I found a $50 off one after doing some searching. Code is AD4004JDK and when I combined it with the Vegas Brazil code there was no CDW added. It brought my suv rental down to $188 for may 14th-20th.
Thanks! Got my rate for full size down to $126 for 5/19-26 coupled with VB code. Also has no CDW, which is my preference. Thanks again for sharing!

I saw Aussiegrl posted the same thing on the April thread. Works for me too ($121 for 7 days, one way rental MCO => DCCC), but again, where are these codes coming from? Would be nice to know if we're required to pay with Amex/Visa etc.
My quick google of the code shows the exact same code was in use in 2010, 2013 etc. It keeps coming back to life in other words. LOL. Seems no one had problems with it in the past, and there is nothing to show.

Edit to note: Another search found this code listed on Fatwallet back in 2011, it apparently came in an Alamo Insider's email. So, be sure to belong to the Insider's program (we all do anyway, right?) when using it.

Thanks! It's still included for minivans, but my rate dropped down to $176. :)

Yes it seems to be included for minivans. I read the product code for the Vegas code is TB1. If you change it to AS1 with any other type code (like cosco, AP holder, DVC, Visa), that new rate will not include the CDW, though the price is just slightly higher.

hi! this will be the first we are renting a mini van as we are bringing our in laws on vacation in July. We usually rent a 5 passenger car mid size car and we always get good deals here. What is a good price on minivan rentals? I am looking at the 7 passenger mini van like the dodge caravan or similar ones and right now with all the coupon codes, Im getting $363.90. I see you quoted $176. Will the price still go down closer to our travel dates? any help will be truly appreciated.

Lastly, if its a full sized SUV, how much does it usually go? any help will be truly appreciated.

I'm not really sure. Rates are high this year overall. My dates are 5/3-5/10 if that helps. I used the Vegas Brazil code and the $50 off coupon.

Is there anyway to tell if the reservation includes an additional driver for free without completing the reservation and looking at the check-in page. I have booked and cancelled 2-3 reservations in one day and worried I might be causing problems/flags with my account.

Minivan rental. Down to 379 for 14 days. Still includes the insurance. I was hoping for a drop. However overal prices dropped today...so maybe in the future. I can get something without a crazy code or with Priceline

I tried the new coupon code with the VB contract. Something I found very interesting is that clicked on the Edit link to edit my pickup information before I actually completed the process and there was something interesting. There was a checkbox that said "Resident of Guatemala". So it seems that a requirement of the VB code is that you live in Guatamala? Perhaps. I was able to uncheck it and change it to the United States and then continued on and the rate did not change. The new coupon code along with VB still pushed CDW on a minivan for our dates. Can't ever get rid of the CDW for a minivan it seems.

I then decided to use the AS1 Product Code and when got to the page where it normally shows CDW Included for free on VB, it was not. Though it was in there but just charging me for it. I was able to remove it and the price using AS1 with the $50 off coupon is only $20 higher than with VB. I suspect if I started from scratch using AS1 I would not have to manually remove the CDW.

I also logged in as an Alamo Insider, so now our email confirmation shows "Rate reflects an Insider savings of $289.61". This was reported earlier by some others. So it seems that as long as you log in as an insider and use AS1 or TB1 product codes, it looks on the confirmation that you are using insiders rates. I found that the new confirmation today doesn't include a free additional driver where VB does. So just using a Product Code doesn't seem to give the free extra driver.

I was able to book another minivan one using a Costco contract ID, AD4004JDK coupon code and AS1 Product Code. The rate is the same, but it now includes an additional driver and still no CDW. Since Alamo Insiders codes don't include the additional driver, then it seems that option is driven off of the Contract ID. CDW is driven off of the Product Code. Product Code it seems is driven off of the Contract ID, except that you can manually force a Product Code without a Contract ID.

I am still hoping that Costco rates come down before our trip and we don't have to rely on crazy codes.

Are you able to share the exact ID for Costco? I tried using an ID with AS1 in front and it didn't work.

Nevermind- I got it to work :)

When I just went into the edit link for pick up. Guatemala wasn't even an option for me. Just the United States was there and already checked.

Thank you! so you are getting $176 for 7 days in May? Pretty cool. I remember getting very good rates last year during our trip as well but lower than $200 for 7 days in July will be good enough for me. Thank you so much for helping out. I appreciate it.

Checked again today and got my price down to $139.41 from $152.30. Not bad.

Used the new $50 off coupon and Vegas code. Down to $105.44 for mid-size for 5/23 - 5/29. Now I'm considering upgrading car class. ;)

Upgraded to a full size for $120.66. I think the extra $4 a day is worth it!

I'm really hoping prices drop some more so we're given the option for a crossover SUV under $150

Crossover SUVs are usually high, but we sometimes get mid-SUVs for $140 or so.

I also used the Brazil code, and the $50 coupon for a $86 compact for a week. I usually get a mid SUV, or a mid size car, but will squeeze this time to save $30 or so.

:thanks: Thanks Mort! This got me down to $31 a day for eleven days on a minivan. I can totally live with that price so...I think I'm done :woohoo:.
