May 2016 Car Rentals

Same thing for me. I assume the reservations we already have with the coupon are still valid, but I don't know for sure.

I got worried so I did the online check-in and completed the skip-the-counter process. All went well with getting the confirmation. My confirmation says to go straight to the vehicle and show my printed reservation confirmation to the booth agent. If I can't find a lower price before my May-25 arrival I'll stick to this and see what happens. I still have the option to cancel. My credit card will not be charged before my trip except possibly $1 according to Alamo.

I checked prices again and tried using the $35 off and the message said "Reservation start date must before Tue Mar 01 23:59:00 CST 2016". I guess they meant must be before that time but that's weird since we are way past that now.

Tried using the $35 coupon today and it said it expired! Anyone else?

Yep - me, too. Between it and not being able to remove the CDW on the Brazil code - this is the hardest year I ever had to get a decent rate - and I'm not 100% comfortable with the codes and coupons. I never could definitely tell where AD8183SDM came from.

I booked it a couple weeks ago, and tried again today just to see what the rates are...got the same message

The only annoying thing about the coupon change is that my reservation has me dropping off at DCCC, and I was thinking of changing out to the Dolphin. If I go near Wilderness Lodge I'll unknowingly be sucked into that vortex. :teleport: I'll have to risk it.

It's the strangest message for coupon rejection that I have seen.

I feel like rates usually go down sooner than they have for my upcoming trip (5/19 arrival) but maybe I am not remembering correctly. I did a coupon search yesterday since AD8183SDM started getting rejected and I can't find much else out there. Guess I will just keep waiting and checking.

I signed in with my Insider ID at Alamo today and it populated the product code with TB1. So I checked the rate for my dates and it lopped off $355 from my cost.
The email confirmation just says (Rate reflects an Insider savings of $355.46). I now have a minivan for $385 for 11 days. That $35 dollars a day, a rate I can actually live with. It doesn't include additional driver and it does include CDW. I'm not as nervous about this CDW as the VegasBrazil one though because I am legitimately an Alamo insider. So you may want to give it a try. It's the first decent rate I've gotten this year that wasn't VB. :cool2:

when I put TB1 into the product code box it lowers my rate like crazy for my July rental, but

It says:
  • Cdw-allocated Inclusive
under protection on the rental summary page. I'm afraid to book this because I'm concerned that it's something I'm not eligible for, even though I am an insider? I'm guessing using TB1 has bad idea written all over it.

Rates & Charges
1 Rental @175.00 $175.00
(Rate reflects an Insider savings of $320.81)

UNLIMITED MILEAGE INCLUDED
Customer Facility Charge 2.50/day $12.50
Priv Fee Recov Chg 10 Pct (10.0%) $17.98

EDITED -

I found info that the code could be a Latin American code, oh well, it would've been nice….

Yes, I just did something similar. I entered my May dates and entered my Entertainment Book Coupon code of AD8323SDM. I did not enter a Contract ID or Product Code. When it brought up my car choices, I went back to "enter details 1 (with a circle around the 1)" and at the bottom I entered TB1 into the Product Code. It brought my rates for a minivan down to the same rates I am getting using the VB code. I decided to book it and decide what to do with it later on. But nowhere on my reservation does it say anything about a "promotion" being used. It only states that I used $25 off coupon and I am an Alamo Insider. It also has the CDW included. I'm not sure what to think about using it. All I know is what I read above where emmabelle says its a Latin American Code.

She may be right. I googled it after reading her post and it did show up on a couple of links for South American travel. The thing is, I didn't key in anything other than my ID and dates. Once you click on "Book Now" and it shows you the cars and prices...in the My Rental Summary Box is a link: Alamo Insiders Member Discount*

This is what is says in the pop up.
Contract/Coupon Terms and Conditions
* Alamo Insiders will receive a 5% discount on retail rates in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, and Latin America.

So I think I'm sticking with it unless something better comes along.

Yeah, the message indicates "Reservation start date must before Tue Mar 01 23:59:00 CST 2016". Weird because I know I booked using this coupon code after March 1st.

I did the same except that I entered the TB1 at the beginning of the reservation process. It does show CDW, but no where does it mention Vegas Brazil. It is that product code that is the driving force behind the rate add ons.

I just tried Product Code AS1 and it gets rates that are pretty close to TB1, but found it doesn't include CDW on the minivan.

I think these rate codes are just as questionable as the contract codes. TB1 is associated with Vegas Brazil and was likely a carry over from a web browser cookie. If you go in to modify an existing Vegas Brazil reservation, you will find that TB1 code on there. AS1 is also associated with a South American travel agency; Global Business Travel Service.

For what its worth, I just called Alamo customer service directly and told them I was able to get a great rate using the TB1 product code. I then told them that I wanted to be sure that I am eligible to use this Product Code. They said I was eligible. Granted, this was only a customer service agent, but that's what they told me.

You know what...I suspected as much :scratchin. I probably checked the Vegas Brazil code rate, removed it, and the TB1 in the product code was residual. I knew that I didn't enter it myself. Plus in the same dropdown on the Latin travel site that I checked TB1, was the code AS1.

Duke, thanks for the heads up. I think I might call too just to see if I get the same answer. I agree, no where in the reservation does it say anything other than "Insiders Discount." I don't know why these promo codes have to be such a mystery . As soon as you use one and the screen redirects it should give you specific conditions of who can use it :confused3. Customers shouldn't have to perplex about whether they are actually going to be covered by a CDW :worried:

For anyone who has booked with the $35.00 coupon AD8183SDM, I had googled this when it first started popping up on here and it was from a coupon website. Do not remember the site now but that's where it came from. Good luck to us all with our coupons/discounts this season... not as easy as in the past.

Don't you always wonder if the person from customer service actually knows what they are talking about? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

What I find annoying is that I almost always use Alamo. I feel as though I should be given a little better discount then $500 a week for a minivan in July. ;););)

I tried the AS1 code along with my DVC or AP code and my rate is only $19 more than if I use the vegas code with TB1. You have the opportunity with the AS1 code to remove the CDW if renting a minivan. Unfortunately right now the current rate has gone up from when I booked and I'm sitting on a $364 rate for a 15 day minivan rental. I'll be watching this and will switch both the coupon and the TB1 code if the opportunity comes up. I'm 4 weeks out right now.
