May 2016 Car Rentals

I find it frustrating that the only way I seem to get new, lower rates with Alamo is to completely re-book. When I do this on Dollar and can just modify my existing reservation. I tried to do that today with Alamo and it would only keep giving me the same rate that I already had. Anyone know if there is a way to do this?
Alamo system doesn't adjust price once reserved. This is a failure in their software as it encourages multiple bookings.
What I'd like to see is if we log in, and search on the same criteria (dates and time) as we did prior the software should tell us we already have a vehicle booked for the same time period, allow us to compare the previous reservation to the results of the new search, then ask if we would like to replace the reservation.

Thanks! I love being able to just revise my existing reservation when I use Dollar. Just more things to keep track of...sigh...

I have sometimes had luck when modifying if I remove the product or rate code. Not the coupons or contract id, just the product code (sometimes referred to as rate code I think). You might try that but I don't know if it still works.

i modifed alamo res for Oct today, changed the pickup time. Rate stayed the same, as assumed it would since i did a dummy pricing first.

have changed corporate codes and coupons without issue. However, when I find a better rate for same corp code I already have booked, had to rebook a new reservation to get the lower weekly rate.

Alamo rates are down a bit today with the Vegas Brazil code and $35 coupon. My rate for full-size for 5/19-5/26 went from $144 to $129. However, the first reservation does not have CDW included but the 2nd does. Not sure why it added it the second time but not the first??? Everything else is the same on each reservation, including the car size. Has anyone figured out when it adds it and doesn't? For now I am keeping both. Not sure a $15 savings is worth keeping the CDW.

Does the Vegas Brazil code come with a free additional driver?
Not to be smart, but the answer is: Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

The system by which they modify the prices and additions doesn't seem to keep the same conditions from one moment to the next. I noted that when the prices are at their lowest the reservation will include both CDW and Additional driver. My opinion of what is happening is that Alamo needs to hire people who know what they're doing when setting these things up. One person adds the correct add-ons, the next doesn't.

My reservation is at the higher price which does not have either the insurance nor extra driver, for now I'm sticking with it until I find something better.

My rate with Alamo dropped a little today. My Brazil Code includes one additional driver for my van rental made today.

Does it have cdw too?
Wondering if it's an automatic inclusion at this point or I'm just not hitting it right

My Alamo rate for May 27-May 31 just dropped $28, for an economy, with the $35 coupon and Brazil codes. Total rate $77
I also checked a friend who is renting in Myrtle Beach from May 4-8 and the minivan dropped $70 for a total of $332

Love you guys!!

My rate dropped too and no matter what I do I can't get the CDW to drop from the reservation.
I somehow have one reservation for full-size 5/19-26 for $144 that does NOT have the CDW. However, now when I try to book to get the reduced rate of $129, the CDW is there and won't go away. I will keep the higher reservation for now. I don't know how I got it without the CDW initially. Must have been a glitch in the system on the day I booked or something.

you have a res without CDW for $144
you have a res with CDW for $129

why would you keep the higher priced res and not the lower priced one?

I thought there were some speculation as to what would happen if there was an accident and you had a res. that included CDW that the renter may not have been entitled to. Am I wrong? I will have to go back and look through the other rental threads and see what it was that I read.

I prefer a rental that includes the cdw. if there is damage to the car the cost of repairs will be covered by the rental company's insurance instead of my own.

wouldn't term it speculation, there many threads here as to wisdom as to avoidance of booking using a corporate code that you may not be entitled to use.

Vegas Brazil is a travel agency based in Las Vegas. LDW & CDW is desired as an accommodation in rates for non-US citizens and others who don't have their own US auto insurance.

CDW is a 'waiver' that transfers financial responsibility from you to the rental car company for damage, theft and what can be a huge issue: loss of use. Loss of use is determined by subrogation company, can get pricey.

In the event of an accident (FL is a no fault state btw, same as my state) Alamo is likely to look at the contract very carefully and dispute what they may term unauthorized usage of a code. Lawsuits have been referenced on other sites. Your CC company that typically will come into play for this gap could then balk paying, saying you had primary coverage. Wouldn't think your basic full liability auto insurance policy would be in play, but who knows. Just though of a long, drawn-out hassle is enough to have me steer clear.

I have been looking for months nothing seems to be decent. Ends up we will need a minivan. I am going to start trying to bid with price line. I understand I am going for 14 days. Yes, I know its over a holiday. But over 800.00 for a minivan…Keep dreaming.
