MAY 2014 Car Rentals

On Costco's site, Avis and Budget are finally starting to come down again for the week of May 4th. They aren't down to what I booked a few weeks ago, but at least they are coming down and are below $200. As usual, I'll keep watching for it to drop to below what I already have booked (around $140).

Dollar dropped for my dates of May 10-16. City Special for full-size was $114 total but promo code 6CO1M gave me a total cost of $109. Mid-size is $101. This is the code for the 10% discount that shows up in "Search for Discounts" under the Specials tab at the top of the home page.

I'm pretty happy with this rate for 6-day rental but will keep checking. Maybe not so diligently and I may be a little more loyal to Dollar since they have maintained lower rates. If Alamo or someone else makes a really huge drop then I may still switch but I doubt they will go much lower than what I just booked.


ETA: I made the resevation above at around 9am today. I just checked rates again at 1:46pm and the total is about $100 more; this was basically the same as when I checked late yesterday. I must have hit a good time this morning. This is really crazy.

Definitely crazy, I'll have to keep checking at various times of the day. I usually only have time to check when I'm at home at night but i'll have to look before work also. We're at $152 inclusive for the week for a mid size so it's not a terrible price but I think I can do better!

I am having a really hard time trying to find any good deals on a car rental. I looking for May 15 and return May 20. Looking for a Midsize. Any help or suggestions would wonderful!

I would read this thread. I would subscribe to this thread. When someone posts they got a good deal, jump on it.

Dollar has had the best deals this year. The rates go up and down frequently. Do you have AAA? You can find the code for your area on the Dollar website.

carrentalsavers.com shows coupons available for the different agencies.

An update to my post last Friday -- I have just lowered my Alamo rate again, still using the Costco code (but booking directly on the Alamo website), as well as coupon code AU2291VYT, which may be a Costco code (not sure). I couldn't get that code to work previously but it worked today.

My new rate for the standard/full size for 5/23-6/7 is $443 inc. taxes, so I've saved $59!!

I am officially an idiot. When I first booked my May trip I had a compact booked 5/15-18 for $113. Not bad but I figured I could do better. Last month I saw the price drop to $69.00 so I grabbed it. A week or two ago I'm checking prices & I see it drop to $61.00 so I grab that one & cancel the $69.00 reservation. Yeah that was too good to be true. I had entered the wrong return date! Now when I check today the price is $149.00. Idiot. I should have just waited to cancel the $69.00 rate but I'm always afraid I'll forget & then get charged for it since I use Dollar Express. I'm now paying more then when I originally started. I can only hope the prices drop. Sigh. No one to blame but myself but I'm still not happy about it.

Last price was down to $111. Just checked now & got a compact for $73.15! Still not quite as good as the $69 rate I foolishly canceled but close enough. You better believe I checked & double checked I had plugged in the correct dates & times this time.

Thanks for the heads-up!!! I saved another $10. My four-day rental (mid-size car picked up and dropped off at MCO) over Memorial Day weekend is $51.52 all-in. I really never thought the rates would drop that low on a holiday weekend.

I just cashed in on this rate drop too! I had switched to Alamo for $189 weekly total for 5/12-5/18, but just got it for $155 from Dollar. I originally had a $138 rate with Dollar but my trip dates changed and I lost it, so I have been playing the watch and wait game for about two weeks.

you might be able to use the code NPSVY for 10% off on dollar as well. It worked with the lock low & go rates when I was looking. New rates are still not lower than what I already have but they are very close...
