MAY 2014 Car Rentals

Anyone have any luck? Any discount codes to share?

Honestly, rates have just been horrendous this year; except for a short window of opportunity a few weeks ago. Just keep watching this thread and hopefully we'll see some downward movement soon. :)

I got dollar city special mid size 5/23-5/30 for $191 today. No other codes.

Will be at disney May 15to 24th. We are staying on site but will need a rental for one day. (May19th). There are 6 of us, four adult and two kids so it looks like will have to rent a minivan. Haven't been able to find any reasonable prices :/. Renting two compacts is actually cheaper.... Anyone have any luck? Any discount codes to share?

typically, not much out there for a 1 day rental other than corporate discount codes. You might want to look into hotwire or priceline @ a price you are comfortable.

Got my car reserved from EZ Rent a car for the 18th through the 27th. Ford Mustang convertible, same as last December. I had a really good experience with them. Only issue was a bit of a line at the counter. Got what I consider a fair price for someone whose 23.

I found decent prices through Dollar. Where are all their locations? We could pick up at the Wyndham location at DTD but would not want to return there as we are headed to Hollywood studios after. With no buses going to parks from DTD this could be a pain....

I am officially an idiot. When I first booked my May trip I had a compact booked 5/15-18 for $113. Not bad but I figured I could do better. Last month I saw the price drop to $69.00 so I grabbed it. A week or two ago I'm checking prices & I see it drop to $61.00 so I grab that one & cancel the $69.00 reservation. Yeah that was too good to be true. I had entered the wrong return date! :headache: Now when I check today the price is $149.00. Idiot. I should have just waited to cancel the $69.00 rate but I'm always afraid I'll forget & then get charged for it since I use Dollar Express. I'm now paying more then when I originally started. I can only hope the prices drop. Sigh. No one to blame but myself but I'm still not happy about it.

takes a brave person to admit it;), I've done the same.

hopefully, about a month prior you'll be seeing some movement in the price.

I'm down from $149 to $116 as of yesterday. Still not as good as my original $69 rate obviously but it does pay to check vigilantly. Still over a month to go so I'm hopefully the rate will continue to drop.

Just reserved from Dollar a full size from 5/14-5/22 at 213. This was a city special flying into Tampa. National wanted $460 for a full size :rotfl2:

I keep checking regularly, do you mind sharing who you booked through for the $116? I am currently at $151 for a week 5/2-5/9 with Dollar for a midsize.

I think horselover's rate is for 3 days over a weekend.

I have not seen the rates come down to anything below what I booked about 3 or 4 weeks ago but they have dropped back to near the same price. Dollar still shows me the best prices with the website discount 6CO1M for my dates of May 10-16; $127.90 for a mid-size.

I don't know if time of day makes a difference but I checked your dates of 5/2-5/9 at my time of day (11:30am pickup; 11:00am dropoff) and the prices are really high ($240).:sad1:

ETA: These were base rates so my calculations are a little off. Add another $50 or so to the amounts to get the total. The rates aren't near what I found earlier but there is time for them to drop.

dollar rent a car, sorry I was so excited that I forgot to put in the city special rates on my listing so had to go back and do it.

You're correct it is over a weekend. May 15-18 (compact) & I've been using my AAA office code in the corporate box.

Oops! I lied but not on purpose. I just realized that the rates above are the base rates so add another $50 or so to what I posted. These are not close to what I booked 3 to 4 weeks ago which is a full-size at $141 total; $91 "base rate". Surely the prices will come down within the next couple of weeks.:rolleyes1

My rates haven't changed since I booked over a month ago, but I currently have two reservations that I have to choose between, both at Alamo. Only a $40 difference over our 10 day rental, so $4 a day, to have a Premium over a Standard (which will end up being a Full size). I'm hoping for a surprise upgrade to something bigger, since this is our first trip with our (will be) 5 month old and all of the gear that he requires! So if anyone travels in the first couple of weeks and doesn't mind telling me what they spot on the Full size or Premium aisle for Alamo, I would appreciate it! We don't head down until the 16th, so I have a little time to figure out which reservation to keep. Right now I'm leaning towards the Premium, assuming I'll have better luck with an upgrade than I would in the Full Size row.

good luck:thumbsup2

curious, is everybody here quoting their final price after all taxes & fees...just to keep things consistent for those still in the hunt.

No idea what my total weekly rate would be, since I'm booked for 11 days. Looking at my confirmation, my pre tax weekly rate is $103 plus 4 days @ $14 each = $218 total (standard thru Alamo, booked via insider rates).

yes, my post above, my price is with tax and fees. And I keep obsessively looking at my reservation to see if I did something wrong, but seems that I did get a great deal ..for no reason. (on Dollar)

May 13-16 pick up at MCO
Dollar base rate of $10.53 a day for a full size. Total with tax 55.67.

My total rate is $209 for standard, $249 if I go with the premium, through Alamo. That's for 10 days.

The rates I previously posted included taxes & fees. Today the rate is down to $111.53. Every little drop counts! Recapping: Dollar 5/15-18 compact car.
