MAY 2014 Car Rentals

I am a week away and again no drops in price for us (again). We went late October and the price stayed very high. Went again in late January and surprisingly no drops in price (which was actually the highest price I've ever paid for January and had to use the KLM just to get a decent price). Normally late January is my lowest price ever. Now we are 1 week away and again, the prices are high with no drops in sight. I'm glad I snagged some decent reservations months ago. I'm still trying to think outside the box to come up with some better prices. I remember back in the day when the price would start to drop as you got closer, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Though I do limit myself because after using many rental companies, I now only use National and Alamo.

If you find that box, you are quite the detective.

Maybe with the costs today, $121 per day is a "reasonable" price for an economy car (yes, one agency is asking that for my rental that starts tommorrow).

But, I think not. As always, if people pay it, they will keep charging it. Taxis and towncar rentals are possibles sometimes and with the prices of rentals up there....

Sticking with my 109 total including taxes from dollar for Midsize May 12-19...
Ive seen it matched once since then with dollar.Nothing has come close

WOW what a great deal. I would love that. Our date are very close to yours 5-15 thru 5-20 and all I can get is $185.00 total on Orbitz.

Dollar is down today - I got a price back in March for 167.38 for a premium 5/10 - 5/18 and it hadn't been close - I needed to change the p/up time and today I got the same car for 175.31 (used code 6CO4m and Dollar Express member), so booked it. I will keep looking for it to go lower as it gets closer but I can live with an 8.00 difference.

My rate is down with dollar today too. 5/23-5/29 (6 days 3 hours) $148 for full size. No codes, just city special. Also found midsize through costco for $153 from budget.

Alamo is down a little this morning. Example, 5/24 - 5/31 @ $177 for a standard; this was just using the Alamo Insider discount with single car upgrade.

Today I finally got a rate I can live with! 257.05 including taxes for 14 day rental. granted its a small car, but we only need it for the parks and groceries!

I guess I need to be happy with my booking 2 months ago. Thrifty-Total $105 Midsize May 1-7

Yes, Dollar rates are down today but I found Alamo to still be cheaper. I received a Standard rate of $200.44 including taxes for May 22nd to 30th. Dollar had a rate of $230.30 for the same dates and standard level.:wave2::moped:

ooOh, so glad I saw this!

I just got Alamo midsize, pick up Monday May 5 return Friday the 9th for $97 TOTAL! :cool1:

I'm booking in Phoenix and my dollar rates are sky high compared to what I got a few weeks ago.

I have a good rate with National using the KLM code and the entertainment coupon. ($238/week for Emerald Aisle before $30 coupon) I'm confused though because I submitted reservations with the coupon and without and the total is the same. Its show's "coupon accepted" on my web version (which I printed) but it says nothing about the coupon on the email confirmation. Anyone know why? Does KLM cancel out the coupon?

We have used Enterprise to rent locally (central Va) to go to Pa and always had unlimited miles, luckily I checked before booking. They now are limiting miles to Florida, argh! So I'm looking elsewhere. We have to have a minivan (3 adults and 2 carseats). Cheapest I've found is Alamo $397.98 for May 17 to 26, that's with the 299851 code. I've read some people are leery about usin code, what's the story on it?

Dollar rates were definitely down today, but still don't match the rate I got in early April.

Full size (5/22 - 5/27) Dollar - $141.53

My current reservation is for $111.79

Dollar rates from yesterday still didn't beat my 5/15-18 Compact for $73.15. I think that's the best I'm getting & I can definitely live with it. Now if I could just find some decent rates for Oct. & Dec.

I'm a little torn. I got a fabulous rate with Dollar a couple of weeks ago, 5/24 - 5/31 @$111. total for a full size. But, I also have a premium with Alamo for the same time period @ $192. I know that's alot more $$, but I haven't used Dollar in forever and I do like a nice car. I'm just so much more comfortable with Alamo or National. I am a FastLane member, so I may just stick with Dollar. $80. is pretty substantial . . .

FYI, Alamo rates were down slightly this morning when I checked. I switched my Standard reservation (5/16-5/25) to a Full Size for $204. Still holding onto a midsize SUV as well, trying to decide whether the extra $80 is worth it for the extra space. the $204 was just the Insiders rate, I checked a few codes and they all came out higher.

Edited to add that I could go with Dollar and save $20-$30, but I am with PP that I haven't rented from Dollar in a long time and am not sure what to expect. I want to walk out and pick out my own car, does Dollar do that? Anyone have any recent Dollar experiences?

I have rented with Dollar for our past 3 trips and have had no problems at all. Easy pick up and drop off and the car was fine ( I wouldn't say the nicest car I have ever been in but it was clean and did the job).
Dollar is by far the best price I have found for our trip next month. I was able to book a standard car for 8 night for a total of $125.

Prices were down this morning but not as low as what I currently have.
