MAY 2014 Car Rentals

thanx guys:thumbsup2

I agree, every little bit helps out the travel budget. I obsess over rental car rates lol, it's one of the few things you can actually score a deal out of a Disney trip if you put the work into it.

I don't know if today was a crazy day for prices - but when I did my daily checking...and my $141 reservation (picking up in Tampa and dropping off at MCO) 5/20-5/28 was up to over $400! :scared: Same dates/times and codes. yikes!

Dollar city special. No codes needed. MCO pick up/drop off
full size 5/24-5/31
$118 (all taxes/fees included).

A compact is about $10 less.

Cost per day to rent car is less than Disney's daily parking fees :rotfl2:

I just got that rate for that time period, too. The base rate was $63. for a full size. I about fell out of my chair. I still prefer Alamo and National but I can't pass up that deal for right now! :thumbsup2

The rate folks are getting with Dollar for late May is what I keep expecting to find and is hard to beat.:thumbsup2

The rate is still high for my dates in the middle of May, May 10-16.:sad2:

good luck:thumbsup2

curious, is everybody here quoting their final price after all taxes & fees...just to keep things consistent for those still in the hunt.

No idea what my total weekly rate would be, since I'm booked for 11 days. Looking at my confirmation, my pre tax weekly rate is $103 plus 4 days @ $14 each = $218 total (standard thru Alamo, booked via insider rates).

I got a great price from Dollar (a couple of months ago) $159.81 for 11 days including all taxes and fees (5/3 - 5/13).

I agree, I am looking for the first week of May, which doesn't seem to have dropped to much. Not any lower than I booked at originally a couple months ago. We have a mid-size booked through Dollar for $151 inclusive for 5/2-5/9 but I'm definitely trying to get it lower.

Thanks for all the updates everyone, one of these days it'll work for my dates, LOL! :lmao:

I'm not seeing any more drops... I think $167 is the best I am going to get for 1 week, pick up MCO drop off at 4 points by the darkside. So I did online check in and bypass the counter check in today... 1 more thing off my list :)

Alamo, using 299851 [yes, I'm not totally comfortable using it anymore either] 5/24 - 5/31 $180 total for a sports car - Dodge Challenger.

Thanks for this code! I just saved $110 on a minivan rental. With dollar it was $445 and Alamo is $335 for May29-June 6.

I just got a great SUV rate with the same code...but I'm nervous about it now if people aren't comfortable using it. Going to do some research and decide whether to stick with my original reservations (cheaper) or this with a good rate on what I actually want to drive. $286 for 10 days in a midsize SUV, so $40 more than our premium rate and $80 more than the standard...what to do, what to do...

Join Alamo Insiders, print your receipt, then you can go straight to the garage and get your car. I always book and then modify my reservation to add my Insider number because if you add it first, your rate will be higher.

I logged in before I confirmed, it kept the rate the same but added my Insiders info. Sounds good, we always just go right to the car, so as long as I don't have to explain my code I'll probably keep the SUV!

I just checked, and my total price for a full size during the same time period is over $200! What am I doing wrong? Or does the rate change that much on a daily basis?

How long are you renting for and which company? Other than the good rate I got today with Alamo, my lower rates were booked months ago and have climbed every time I've checked.

I'm renting for a week 5/24-5/31, others had posted yesterday that they got low rates with Dollar for a full size for the same exact time period, when I checked today my total is much higher.

Just lowered my rate on Alamo for 5/23-6/7 on the Costco website (yes, I am a member) for a standard car (which at Alamo is a full size).

Two weeks ago it was $660, last Friday it lowered to $615, and this Friday it is down to $502! Very interesting that all of the rate drops have been on Fridays -- I have been checking the prices daily and this is the only movement that I have seen in the past month.

Dollar's rates did go down this week for me as well (but the really big savings started on 5/24 not 5/23)but not enough to make it worth the switch because I need the additional driver, which is free with Alamo because I am an Insider and would be free anyway because of booking through Costco. With that factored in, even my old Alamo rate was cheaper. I have been checking the other onsite companies as well but they are all higher.

Hope this helps!

Wow! What a big difference it makes going over Memorial Day weekend! We got alamo standard car, for 1 week for $167 thru costco... But we are doing early May. Pick up at MCO and drop off by universal at four points. I think I would have gagged at $502! Glad your rate is going down!

I'm still hoping .... Unfortunately every time we head to Florida it's always at a busy time of the year, but that's how it goes with 2 teenagers!!! Maybe one day...

Glad you got such a great rate!!!

The rates really do change constantly. I have yet to see anything as low as what I booked mine for, just over $10 a day, for a full size car. It was just some random time, I got the right price.
