MAY 2014 Car Rentals

Edited to add that I could go with Dollar and save $20-$30, but I am with PP that I haven't rented from Dollar in a long time and am not sure what to expect. I want to walk out and pick out my own car, does Dollar do that? Anyone have any recent Dollar experiences?

Here's a great thread about Dollar Express. Still not convinced I will give up my Alamo rental, though.

Edited to add: The more I read through that thread, the more I decided to go with Dollar. I will continue to monitor Alamo/National because I always have great luck with them, but I will not be uptight if I have to go with Dollar.

Yes, Dollar rates are down today but I found Alamo to still be cheaper. I received a Standard rate of $200.44 including taxes for May 22nd to 30th. Dollar had a rate of $230.30 for the same dates and standard level.:wave2::moped:

About the same difference for our rental of 9 days for a standard beginning 5/28. I had to change flight times earlier this month and the extra time bumped it up a bit. Now paying $218 total but also includes the extra driver vs Dollar charging for it.

It'd be nice to see our rate drop;) but can't really complain about paying $24 a day for a full-size imo, basically the same rate as we've paid last year or so for our dates.

Dh usually rents using Enterprise, and I've searched all over and I can't find a discount code anywhere. Does anyone know of one?

I caught the slightly lower rate for an economy size on Alamo yesterday so I switched back from Dollar. I now have $139.90 total with a base rate of $102.62 for 5/12-5/18 on an economy size with Alamo.

I don't rent very often and the last time I remember was in Las Vegas and I used Dollar with no issues. But now for some reason, I feel more comfortable with Alamo this trip. The two are within $3-5 of each other for what I need. So unless Dollar really takes a dive of more than $20 dollars, I will stick with Alamo.

:drive::drive::drive:

Does anyone else have an email box full of car rental confirmations and cancellations? I finally had to break down and make a folder just for my FINAL ressies.

I was just thinking today that its gotten ridiculous, with all the emails I'm juggling and still active reservations I'm holding on to. I need to work through it all and make a final decision. Probably in 21 days, the day before my flight.

I have an email folder for cancellations,;).
From changing car rentals and ADRs, to not being able to decide 100% on a resort, the folder is pretty full.

Finally booked our 7 passenger minivan!
From 5/09 to 05/19 at WDW ALAMO (insider discount, trough "deal finder", so I dont know what code)
Rates & Charges
3 Day(s) @39.80 $ 119.40
1 Week(s) @199.00 $ 199.00
TOTAL $ 338.90
Just cancelled all other previous reservations...
;)

And let me add another booking and cancellation email to my file...Alamo rates are down again, now have a Standard for 5/16-25 for $187, which is the same as my Dollar rate for a smaller car. So now I can cancel Dollar, plus my full size through Alamo (was $207). So down another $20, unless I decide to keep the SUV, which has only gone up in price.

Thanks for the heads up! My Alamo for 5/20-5/28 went down from $242 last night to $215 tonight. (City special - no codes) - getting very close to my goal of $200 or under. :goodvibes

I'm looking at possibly changing my incoming flight to where I will be coming in 3-4 hours earlier than I originally thought. Will that be a problem with Alamo at the airport?

Who knows????

But, considering, I came into the rental center half an hour early on Wednesday and I had to wait 30 minutes for a car because they had no cars, you could face a wait.

they did upgrade my four "levels" above my reserve at the same price (but, then again, I have "mucho" rentals to my credit because of my business rentals).

See a lot of people using Dollar. Don't their terms = must present gas receipt within 10 miles of airport?

I know Alamo does not have that statement in their terms, so beginning last Nov, I've started using Alamo. Used in Feb. Using in May.

Got $185 for midsize 5/18 - 5/25/14 - Alamo

Anyone having problem with their website. I haven't been able to access it for last 3 days on my laptop or my desktop. Only the left side of the screen comes up - the enter info for resv side. The rest is blank.

The resv side doesn't fully load & doesn't work correctly - calendar doesn't load, etc. When type in dates & hit the button, just goes to top of screen again & again????

Any fix ideas besides calling several times a day?

I getting ready to unload cookies & see if that helps - but on 2 puters, that doesn't make sense?

I just checked the website and had no problems. :confused3

This is so weird! Didn't dump cookies; decided to check 1 more time first. And now it's working - on my laptop, but still not on my desktop. Gremlins! I'll keep trying.

Thank you for taking your time to check & for your response.

BTW, got $20 more off! 5/18-5/25, midsize, $165.93

EDit - originally posted got $10 off; just realized, I got $20 off - big wahoo!

I have never had Dollar request a gas receipt at MCO. My latest rental was last December.
