May 2013 Car Rental - Best deals?

Just booked National with a pickup at SOG on May 4th.
Return to MCO on May 9th.
$84 total. :thumbsup2
I am planning on taking a bus to MK, boat ride to the Poly and finally a walk to SOG.

9 days away from the darkside and staying at SVR. Rates still aren't where they were last year. Right now I've got a fullsize thru Budget for $202 total.
Any help I can get lowering would be awesome. Here are my details.
Mco on 5/4 10am till Mco on 5/11 3pm Thanx in advance.

Your best bet is to look through this thread and make note of the codes posted and try them out to see what works best for you. This thread is really about providing information and tools for you to find the best deal. :)

Where do you find the Dollar City specials? I see last minute specials and other specials for minivans for 39.99/day, but not "city".

Thanks!

When you enter your trip information, make sure you don't use any codes and choose all car types. When it brings up the car choices you will see gold highlighting over about the middle of the page with the words City Special. Click on that and the City Special rate will come up. Does not work on the mobile site only the full site.

I called Disney's Car Care Center # 407 824-3470, spoke with Kelly, and these are the steps that she gave me to follow for pick up from Shades of Green.
1. Take Magical Express from MCO
2. Call her once we are on the Magical Express to schedule pick up from the resort (Pop Century for us)
[She says with the flight delays etc going on now, she would need time to set the pick up for us]

She said regardless to the time you set for pick up on your reservation, the location holds the reservation for 24 hours. And this was my concern, as I have never done the Magical Express, but have always wanted to! So we will be able to ride the Magical Express, and not have to worry with the luggage. Win-win.
She did also say that the latest pick up time she could set would be 5:20pm, as they close there at 6 pm.

So calling the shuttle from the Car Care Center will take us to Shades of Green? I never would've thought to try that. Thanks for the tip!

Kelly picked up on the number above, and answered Disney Car Care Center Kelly speaking. This number I got from this thread, a page or two back. While waiting for her to pick up, the recording said Alamo/National shuttle service. Try the number, you'll see what I'm talking about. National promotes "we'll pick you up". She did ask if I was staying at SOG, I said no. She asked if Disney property, and I said yes, Pop Century. She said no problem.

Thanks to you and OP for posting this. I have a ressie at SOG as well for first week in May. I won't be taking ME (too late to book but reserved a one day rental from Dollar for $23/complete just now). Staying at POFQ so I can call them. :) Anyone know what time they open? TIA

There is a AAA member special showing now on Dollar's website. I rebooked our minivan rental using our AAA office corporate discount code and got the price down to $189 for the week ($258 total with taxes/fees)!! I texted DH and he said he was ready to do a back flip! When we first booked the minivan it was $372 so we are so happy about this!

This is this same price as the city special for anyone still looking and not members of AAA. Just be sure to be on the full site and not the mobile site.

I booked on the full site using the AAA promo. The previous price I had was with the city special and for my travel dates and flight times the lowest I could get the rental for was $330 total (with taxes/fees), so being able to rebook for $258 total is a definitely a touch of pixie dust for us!

Why is it too late to book ME?

I booked a while back using the Dollar codes on the first page. I haven't been back in a while so I need to read through the thread.. is anyone having trouble with the $40 code? I checked my reservation and it's still valid. Do you think I'm going to have problems when I check in?

The Dollar City Special is just a few dollars more so I could book that if we think I might have problems. WWYD?

It shouldn't be too late to take Magical Express. I have, in the past, forgotten to book ME until about a week before our trip, and was still able to take it with no problem. They were not able to get the packet that comes in the mail out to us in time, with the luggage tags and voucher for our ride, but they told me all I had to do was show up at the counter and give my name and they would print up vouchers for us. They even took our luggage claim checks and retrieved our luggage for us and delivered it to our rooms without them having the Disney tags in advance. They must have printed some on the spot or something. Not sure, just know we didn't have any trouble. I ended up forgetting again this trip, but decided to get the car at the airport instead of the next day so it worked out fine.

I have jumped on the ME when we arrived a day earlier than we had planned. You will have to take your luggage with you. Just have your confirmation number handy.

Just call DME and make reservations, it's not too late. You'll have to grab your own luggage, but you can still get the free ride to and from the resort.

I am still at a lock and low with Dollar May 15- 18th early and late drop off for 94.00 So far nothing is cheaper. I looked at ME and picking up at car at the car center, those prices are worse yet!

Just letting everyone know that the rates for Alamo have gone down on the Costco site every day for the last 3 days.

Today I booked a full size for $428 inc. taxes for 5/23-6/8. Yesterday it was about $30 more.

I did have a cheaper rate using the Dollar city special ($350) but I really needed the free additional driver that I got by booking with Costco.

I also noticed that the Budget rates from Costco had gone down, although they were not as cheap as Alamo. So if you have booked with Costco you might want to check and see if you can save some $$$!!!

Don't forget to keep checking multiple times a day! We are 2 weeks out today, and our price has gone from $400 to (just now) $137 in only 5 days! Our trip is 5/11-18, pick up/drop off at MCO, midsize using SW code 7016105 and coupon AD2338FDF for $30 off. It's already dropped since I got up this morning, so again ... check as often as you can! :goodvibes
