May 2013 Car Rental - Best deals?

Don't forget to keep checking multiple times a day! We are 2 weeks out today, and our price has gone from $400 to (just now) $137 in only 5 days! Our trip is 5/11-18, pick up/drop off at MCO, midsize using SW code 7016105 and coupon AD2338FDF for $30 off. It's already dropped since I got up this morning, so again ... check as often as you can! :goodvibes

What is the coupon for? Do we need a print out

So glad to see prices have finally gone down through Alamo. I was getting a little worried since I was the one telling everyone the prices would go down! For those that are new to Orlando airport or Alamo be sure to use online check in, it allows you to bypass the counter and go directly to your car. AND definitely keep checking those rates everyday! I am willing to be they will go down even more.

Oh and no you do not have to print off any type of coupon.

Ooo I didn't know we could bypass the kiosk too. Online checkin worries me a bit when flying. What happens if there are problems with your flight?

Unfortunately with Alamo, if you use a coupon you will NOT be able to do online check in. You CAN check in at one of the kiosks by the counter tho, and still avoid the line at the counter,

I've had the same thing happen with the Visa code, but not on other codes. Clicking 'edit' on the next page didn't work either, seems it does get 'locked' on that darn Visa code. Try logging out of the Alamo site, or close out your browser and open a new one.

I've had the same thing happen with the Visa code. But with other codes the remove option is there. I had to clear my browser cookies to get rid of it.

I have a minivan reserved with Dollar and Alamo. $15 dollar difference.

Who would you choose?

I am both an Insiders member and Fastbreak.

Thanks!

I leave tomorrow and have to say, my rates never got better than what I booked months ago. I never got a "last minute" drop in prices. Since I leave April 30 I've been subscribing to both the April and May threads. This happened to me in late January for that trip. Those rates never got better too and no "last minute" drop in prices there either. I've already accepted that my price was the price I was going to pay, but secretly I kept hoping for a better price. I only rent through National and Alamo now, so that does slightly limit me. I've rented through Budget, Dollar and Hertz and perfer not to use them anymore. Nothing horrible to post about them other than the long lines, the hard sell for insurance, and the vehicle conditions. I even crunched the numbers for picking up at SOG and the price was not much better considering I needed a minivan for the second half of the trip. The savings was just a couple of dollars and not worth the hassle. Good luck to all and I hope the prices get better.

I would definitely go with Alamo. I haven't used Dollar but we rent from Alamo all the time in Orlando. I LOVE the kiosk - it's so fast! We rented from Budget last time because Alamo rates were sky high. It took over an hour to get a car vs typically less than 10 minutes with Alamo.

I too would go with Alamo. Not sure if Dollar has changed, but the last time we used them they "assigned" us a vehicle to pick up and we didn't actually get to choose which vehicles we wanted. (Sometimes we just don't want a white one and try to choose something that we can find in the parking lot). I like using the kiosk at the airport for Alamo because there is never anyone there using them and like being able to actually walk the aisle to decide which vehicle we want and what color we want. I always find that Alamo and National tend to have newer cars then ther other companies we've used.

Agreed I go with Alamo whenever possible. I like the ability to choose my car.

We will definitely be going with Alamo I just went to reserve a minivan with the annual pass holder discount code and entertainment book $25 off coupon and it came to $161.95 and I went to confirm and it changed the total to $121 and change!!!!! AMAZING savings!!!!!! So happy!!!

Not sure of your dates, but there is also a $30 coupon AD2338FDF (5 days or more w/Sat night stay).

Does anybody know if you rent through Costco travel that you can use the kiosk's? Since there is no coupon code to enter can I just do online check in?:confused3 I have a minivan reserved May 16-21 for $253 which includes all fees and taxes.

Thank you for the Alamo Codes.

Dollar 2 full size - $325.22
Alamo 2 midsize - $227.62
Saved - $97.60

WAA HOO!!! :cool1::thumbsup2

In the past I have just used whatever deal and discount was being offered through corporate partner. Last week I figured what the heck try some of these codes and combinations that others were doing to get the best deal. So I tried them and at the same time made a new reservation on partner rate, which ended up slightly cheaper than DIS thread for a savings of $130. I just checked again and just saved another $60. (Alamo partner rate for May 11 - 18 mid-size for 8 days = $140; sorry no code to pass on as I can't even enter a coupon once I click on our internal site).

Lesson learned is follow DISs' advice on keep checking your rates, even without a coupon.

Thanks all!

Cheers!

Can someone give me the Alamo AP code? Will I need to show my AP when I arrive ? I ask because I'm the driver in the family and the only one in our family without an AP (at least until we hit the park and I upgrade my ticket). Thanks !

Disney Annual Pass code is 860292, I have used it about a half a dozen times in the past, never been asked to show an AP (though both my husband and I have them). We have used the kiosks in the past, and just last January did the straight to the car thing.
