Cast - myself and DH (MarkRG - who did his reports live from the Magic). Also along were Mark's parents Bob & Susan. This was our 5th DCL cruise - their 3rd.
Our goal - to relax and enjoy! With so many new ports for us we were interested in the experience. Since we have no kids the reports won't cover that. Since this was our 5th cruise we also opted out on all the big shows. I must say though that this was the most wonderful cruise I've ever taken. So on with the show:
Castaway Cay - one of our favorite locations, but it also signals the end of the cruise
The goal for today - snorkeling! On our last 7 day in 2001 we were going to snorkel, but when I got in the water I couldn't see. My perscription had really gotten bad over the years since I had last snorkeled (age and chemo treatments). That left Mark to snorkel alone. Our next cruise in 2002 we just rented tubes and had fun, but I knew Mark wanted to snorkel. Our last cruise in Feb. it was too cold in the water for us (especially since we knew we would be back in May). When I went for new glasses in March Mark suggested I ask about perscription masks. It wasn't as expensive as I thought so we bought it. That lead to Mark getting a mask and both of us getting our own snorkels. We only needed to rent fins.
We got in line early so we would have our choice of spots and get in early. Mark's parents wanted nothing to do with it so were headed off to the adult beach. We got a great spot on the family beach and were among the first in the water. The mask worked great! We saw so many fish! We even saw the barracuda! Saw both the Mickey statue and the sub from 20,000 leagues. Very cool! We were out for over an hour!
Relaxed on the family beach for a while and read. Then lunch at Cookies and headed over to the adult beach to meet up with the in-laws. The water was so shallow! People were half-way out and it was only up to their waist. Mark's parents had spotted a stingray ealier so we headed out with our snorkel gear again. Sure enough we found him. Also saw a live conch, and some really huge starfish. I even found someones key to the world card!
By the time we came back in (about an hour) the tide had really gone out and there was an open sandbar where there had once been water! People were walking out all the way to the bouy!
Hung out for a while then decided to go back to the ship. A quick stop at She Sells for lime green Castaway Cay shirts (perfect for our next DIS meet) and we were done!
Back on board we showered and did some more packing. Almost over
Time to do the tips. We did a combination of cash and phone cards. Everyone who took care of us went above and beyond so we did too!
Which brings us to Friday night. You are one a romantic cruise, you've visited wonderful islands, it is your last night aboard. What would you do? Well if you were my DH you went on the DIS to go in cruise chat LIVE from the Magic!
I watched for a while then went to do the last minute packing. Got Mark to come back just in time to put the bags out.
Saturday morning - one last breakfast. Lots of thanks from our serving team - they loved the phone cards!
A wait in the atrium - then check in with American, an unventful bus ride, and then the flight home.
It was a wonderful trip! Just about as perfect as I could ask for. As I said before we didn't do a lot of things others did. That isn't us. We aren't club people. Give me a good book and my veranda and I'm happy.
The only thing I wanted to do but didn't - the Rainforest room in the spa. On day one we were both ready to sign up for a week long pass - but never did and then never got there. Oh well - next time
Hope you have enjoyed the report - thanks for reading!
