May 10, 2008 Ship of Thieves...May 2008 Repo Thread...Part 9

I am trying to keep up with the thread but even with my super human DISing skills, I lag behind.

Yesterday I had to take my son to see a pediatric cardiologist because he had a abnormal EKG. His blood pressure has been running high ever since his Dad died, I just assumed it was stress induced, but a "variant" EKG that the Dr. ordered sent us to see a specialist. He had an echocardiogram, which turned out to show that his heart is normal. WHEW!! This last year has been the hardest of my life and I am so glad that this was not another mountain to climb. I am worn out.

The grand jury will be meeting in May to look at all cases that they have to do. My husband's accused murderer will be one of those cases. I have a meeting with the DA on Friday of next week to go over the case and talk about the death penalty and all that. If convicted, this would be this person's third conviction for armed robbery.

I have always had mixed feelings about the death penalty and I am talking to my son about it, he feels that death penalty should be considered. This is all pretty overwhelming to me. It is one thing to be pro death penalty or against death penalty, but when you are faced with a situation like mine, it is a little harder to be pro death penalty. I mean this is considering an actual death and not just a theoretical death. I think about his family, who are most likely just innocent folks, maybe he has kids, a mother, siblings.... They have lost him to prison for the rest of his life for sure if found guilty, it is another thing to face the death sentence. I don't want to start a whole death penalty debate or anything, it is just something that I have to really think about right now.

None of this will be my decision for sure. So I am trying to think how my husband would have felt about it. In the few comments that I remember him saying about similar subjects, I believe that he would have said that people have to face up to the consequences of their actions, whatever they may be. This is how he lived his life. I am going to use this philosophy as my guide.

Sorry to post such a serious subject on a fun thread, I guess I just needed to vent a little. I am glad we will be out of town during this time as the media will most likely be trying to contact us for comments, pictures and so forth during the whole time it is on the "news". Thanks for listening...

Okay, back to the fun cruise planning. :)
Tammy, I have no idea how in the world you're managing to get through this. I admire your strength. I'm so glad your son's heart checked out normal.

41 pages to go. Good grief you guys! Time to leave work and try to catch up from home. :goodvibes

Our daughter is allergic to nuts. We have to watch really carefully and we have the epi pen also, however now that she is a teenager, it is really much easier since she can tell herself. Lucky for us, she immediately gets sick and her system kicks it right back out.

Which brings me to this little story....we were on a Delta Flight and the flight attendant came on and said that they had a child allergic to nuts on the plane so they were asking the 2 rows in front of the child and the 2 rows behind the child to not eat nuts during the flight. There were some pretty pi**ed off passengers.

Funniest part of the story. The kids were all the way in like the 3rd to the last row of the flight, and their parents were sitting in First Class. I think that is what really upset people more than anything, about their "lack" of concern. If they were really that worried, maybe they should have been sitting with their child.....

Anyway, we can now start the debate of whether airlines should or should not serve nuts on flights....:confused3

I was on a flight home from Hawaii and they announced that there was a child allergic to peanuts etc but their solution was: No snacks were to be served on the plane at all and no one could bring food onto the plane without having it be approved. I must admit I was quite upset....6+ hour flight with 2 kids and no food. We were able to scramble and get a few things to bring on, but I have never heard of such a strict policy.
Since I deal with allergies regularly in my practice, I understand the severity of the situation, but felt the airline could have handled it better...letting us know a bit more than 5 min before boarding. I have no problems watching what I eat in confined spaces....just let me know ahead of time so I can be prepared. My youngest is hypoglycemic and she would have been a nightmare by the time we landed if I was not able to find some food for her to eat on the plane. Actually, she has a friend who is allergic to peanuts and she told me the other day not to send her to school with PB&J's anymore because she wanted to sit next to her friend and didn't want her to get sick...I thought that was really sweet.

Someone was asking about activities with the adults at the pool during the cruise. I was just on my photobucket account and saw this and thought I would share. I'm sure we have some guys who would love to participate!

Susie,

Don't even think about it...

we have a nut free zone table at school. You cannot sit at that table if your lunch has any nuts in it. Whats sweet is that alot of kids will take turns going w/o pb&j to sit with their friends who can't be near nuts.

that is a great idea. I might mention that to my dd's school. allergies are certainly scary things.

Over here it appears more children are suffering with bad allergies these days. Adults too actually. Is it the same over there?

Asthma has really increased, and I think nut allergy too.

Good thing Scott doesn't read these boards, he would ban me from them if he saw the ideas that get put into my head! Now, if doing that meant that he could win something for his girls, he would do it in a heartbeat! :goodvibes

Still GTY - looks the same each and every time I go and look, and I have been over there a lot today!!!

Mmm, the site is ok now and we are still GTY. Sorry!!:sad2:

Sounds to me like the airline is just trying to cut costs:rolleyes1 Can I say pretzels! Nowadays they seem to starve everyone on long flights and if your lucky you get peanuts or pretzels and I even heard of an airline that charges for a soda:sad2: ridiculous.... My DS last year had a friend that he sat next to allergic to peanut butter and I just didn't send him Pb&J in his lunch...the school lunch still serve pb&J smuckers so you could pack PB in lunches just not snack in the classroom...this year none of his friends have that allergy so I do pack celery with PB dip snack packs and he chooses a seat away from someone who has the allergy..I figure its way less PB than what they serve in the lunchroom. I always feel bad about my DS allergy and since its not fatal I usually don't tell anyone instead of eating cake at a BDay party he may just lick the frosting:upsidedow it doesn't even bother him at all anymore he just deals with it and says no thanks.

Goodnight all. I guess we will be on part 10 tomorrow.

And, we might know what Marr did last night.:lmao:

Well, if you asked me I would say it all starts to stem from the increase in antibiotic overuse, superbugs and poor digestive systems. Oh, and the increase in pesticides and chemicals used in food production and manufacturing. but those are JMHO...... :goodvibes

I was scared there are the start since I was traveling a few days I lost my throne of blabberdom, hey Gaylean was gone too, how did she out talk me, oh yeah, she really is a blabbermouth....:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Half Cindy, half Gaylean. You win.
