wish we had drive in's but then do you run your air the whole time?

Well, when I used to go to them here in Ohio, even the warmest summer evenings were just comfortable with the windows down. We used to go to them a lot as a kid. They even had a playground under the big screen that kids could play on before the movie and in between features. It's now a strip mall.

Kelly sounds like fun. I almost bought Enchanted and 101 Dalmations last night but it was at Publix and they were 24.99 a pc and I knew I could get them cheaper elsewhere...I can't wait to see Enchanted!

Your girls will love Enchanted even my DS was singing with my DD the songs...I may need to get them the soundtrack You and DH will like it too my DH got a kick out of some parts and enjoyed it.

We still go to the Drive In, but only during the Summer. No matter how hot it is at home, when we get to the drive in it's cold. We bring blankets with us. The Drive In is at the top of a mountain and it's always windy and cold, which is a great thing in the heat of the Summer. You always get a great deal too because you see two newly released feature films for the price of one......actually it costs less than going to a movie theater. Plus they have rides and a pony for the kids. They even have a hot air balloon that goes up a little bit and comes back down. Of course, there's the snack bar too and the food is always great. I love the Drive In.

That sounds soooo fun...wish we had one like that here. The weather(minus the summer) is good for that here...I think there is one but kind of far away from us. My DH never been to one until I took him to one in Upstate NY and he loved it and it was a great double feature.

Has anyone seen the new Webkin that talks? Brent got one for Easter.

My DD got the bunny webkinz in her Easter basket and DS got Pok'e'mon cards among others. I haven't even heard of the new talking ones I haven't been able to find the charms ...I think they don't have them anymore I've looked everywhere.

I'm sure someone answered already . . . but it is a play by the now late great Kurt Vonnegut. I think Ian was just messing with you guys.

Amy arrived in Manilla safely and tired. Called me about 23 hours after she left.

Okay..I will be off the boards for a week now as I'm headed to MIL and FIL's in CO for Spring Break with the girls!!! It should be a very interesting trip! In case you can't tell I'm not looking forward to it!!! My husband always had a strained relationship with them but the girls are their only grandkids, so I feel obligated!

I'm sure by Sunday when I get back you'll be on a new thread!!! So see you there!!! And have a wonderful week!!!!

I believe these days we're called Jews. I'm not that old, but I don't ever recall us being called Hebrew people.

Perhaps speaking, reading, or writing Hebrew, but we are called Jews.

I used to work with a woman who always lowered her voice when she said Jew.

I told her she didn't have to lower her voice. We don't consider it a bad word.

It also refers to us in the past tense, "...Hebrew people used to identify Passover..." The Jewish lunar calendar is still very much alive and well, and we continue to use it to identify when Passover falls and when all of our holidays take place, when Shabbat begins and ends, the months of the year. It is very much present tense. We still exist.

I was wondering today after I posted Happy Easter if any of our group was Jewish. We have a very large Jewish community here, but it has dwindled since I was young. There were once two temples in town, but they have now consolidated into one. The ownership of the company I work for is Jewish, and I went to school with one of the family who is one of my very best friends. She actually lives in Chicago now.

As to the Jewish calendar . . . it very much plays a part in Orthodox Christianity, as Orthodox Christians still follow the Julian Calendar - which is why Easter so often falls differently for us.

I think I also mentioned this last year, but the Greek word for Easter "Pascha" is actually the Greek word for Passover. While Western Easter can sometimes fall before Passover, Orthodox Pascha either follows or coincides with Passover. As I used to tell my Catholic friends sometimes . . . how can you have Easter before Passover?

Not heard of it sorry - perhaps American?

How funny! My daughers are the same way!!! My one daughter is currently missing 4 (2 front and 2 side bottom teeth) with another 2 ready to fall out and the other one has 2 missing with 3 more ready to come out!!! But right now that's how everyone is telling them apart!!! So it will be back to "the girls" when they finally all grow back in!!!!

V-I don't know if you are on here anymore but you would be so proud of me I actually started to pack I packed all of my DD clothes for the cruise and I'm having an additional suitcase to put all of our clothes for the week prior and after the cruise. It's a lot of clothes I decided on 3 bathingsuits for her for the cruise 1 cover up and 1 bathingsuit and cover up for prior and post cruise since we would mostly be at the parks. I just packed a couple outfits for her for daytime...I figured if she's going to the pool she'll be in a bathingsuit and cover up walking around or if we are just doing activities indoors she could be in what she'll wear for dinner I hope that works I'll bring a couple of outfits in case its formal night or just because???? Any thoughts I just don't want to bring tonz of stuff so I focused on the 15 outfits for dinner mostly bathingsuits,pjs, undies, socks etc...I have her outfits ready to pack for pre and post cruise....I'm really trying to get by with the least amount of suitcase...next DS suitcase then mine

John, my John and I were just chatting today about why Easter moves here. I haven't looked into the why's and wherefor's, but I did say that surely it must be attached to Passover so maybe it is Passover that moves. You have cleared that up.

Now I need to find out why our Easter moves.

So it's Pancake Day already? Shrove Tuesday heralds the start of an unusually early Lent and Easter. Why does the most important season in the Christian church hop around the calendar more than an Easter bunny?

The date of Easter is one of those subjects which, though passing unquestioned 99% of the time, is loaded with significance, argument and history.

The entire Roman province of Asia was excommunicated for several centuries for heresy over the date and Christians in England were split over it for decades. But the rules for calculating the date of Easter Sunday are complex and remain controversial.

In the early church, Easter was celebrated on different days in different countries. The date was bitterly disputed until the council of Nicaea in AD 325 decreed the festival would be observed on the same date.

While the council may have desired consistency, simplicity took a back seat.

The day chosen was the Sunday following the first full moon after the spring equinox. The full moon being a notional "Paschal" full moon which occurs in either a 29 or 30-day cycle, not the astronomic moon we can all see in the heavens.

The theological significance of this date was that it was a day of maximum light -12 hours of daylight, followed by 12 hours of full moonlight. It means that Easter can be celebrated on a Sunday between March 22 and April 25. So although this year's date of 27 March is early for Easter, it is by no means the earliest possible date. It does, however, coincide in the UK with the clocks going forward.

Sacrilegious

Accurately calculating Easter was important to early Christians as they believed celebrating it too soon or too late was sacrilegious. But the calculation tables used have often been a matter of major controversy and various system have been adopted and rejigged over the centuries.

After the ferocious early schisms and excommunications, the Gregorian calendar was adopted in Britain and Ireland in 1752 and Easter has been celebrated on the same day in the Western part of the Christian world ever since.

Vatican proposal

The Eastern churches, however, did not adopt the same calendar and still celebrate Easter at a different time. Occasionally the dates coincide, for example, in 1865 and then in 1963.

Discussions still continue over the advantages of a fixed Easter. In 1928 the House of Commons agreed to a bill fixing the date as the first Sunday after the second Saturday in April. It was never implemented.

In 1990 the Vatican approved a proposal for a fixed date of Easter, coming out in favour of it as long ago as 1963. The proposal is subject to agreement with all other Christian churches and with governments. So far agreement has not been reached so Easter still drifts from year to year. "

Good afternoon all,

Just back from a quick trip to visit Linda and Jamie at DL where it was 92 degrees today and 93 yesterday!!! Every time Linda comes here it's near 100 degrees. Fortunately, at my house it is 15-20 degrees cooler than DL. Got to see Tony's new smart car - very, very cute. We had a nice visit and now I'm back to get some work done before this week's business begins.

Target had Enchanted for $14.99 this week. We loved it so much that we bought the sound track.

They will be handed out at the DIS meets prior to the cruise (DTD, Fishlips, Hyatt MCO), and at the terminal. I don't think we're going to get them in on time to hand them out at the CA April meet - but that'll depend on how quickly we can get our responses back (Kelly/edna mode can you remind me when that will be?)..

For the same reason Marilyn. The Western Church adopted the Gregorian calendar. There are similar calculations, but the different calendars make the difference.

Happy Birthday Wanda June was a joke with "my crowd" when I was in High School and college, going as far as to have Wanda June on people's birthday cakes instead of their names.

Our other favorite thing to put on cakes was "Happy Bar Mitzvah Irving." This was usually followed by a long explanation about how we forgot to order the cake and rushed to the bakery just as it was closing and this was the only cake that they had left.

I suppose I was just having a spry moment, after the string of Happy Birthdays.

Have a fun trip...hope DH is going too since its his parents...that usually helps me when he's there too...but I always make an effort because they want to see the grandchildren and its important to the kids too It'll fly by

At this age its so funny seeing his classmates with teeth missing and there new big front teeth he has one almost all in and the new one coming in and he does have at least 2 or three more loose It'll be interesting to meet your DD I was always pretty good at telling twins apart...my cousins were identical twins and were born on the same day as me and nobody could tell them apart but I could...they also have different personalities but best friends. My moms sister was visiting my mom to see me , the newborn, and went into labor and had her twin boys we were raised close by for the first 5 years and were refered to as the triplets(combined bday parties etc...). Their dad and my dad were friends for years and went to law school together and married sisters ...really cute

OK, I tried to prepay our stay at the Hyatt MCO for the night of May 9th, and no go. There is no way to easily prepay it. It is really involved and requires faxing stuff back and forth, photocopying credit cards, etc.

They said I could probably do it on line. I tried there as well, and there is no way to prepay.

My hopes of zero bills after the vacation are dashed.

Finally unpacked the "surprise" camera today, the new Fuji. After several arguments over how it worked, suggesting that someone might want to glance at the manual, grabbing the camera back and forth ("No let me do it!"), the consensus was that the camera is great.

We left the house to go to get a camera bag at either Best Buy or Target (next to each other).

Much to our surprise, everything was closed. I forgot it was Easter.

Driving back via a different route, we passed a Red Lobster whose parking lot was jammed packed. Sukie said, "I wonder what's going on there. Why are there so many people at Red Lobster?"

I said, "It's packed because of oyster."

I read "Cat's Cradle" in eighth grade. My English teacher thought I could handle it. "Slaughterhouse Five" is one of my favorite books. The short story "Harrison Bergeron" was actually in our High School English book. You can read it here:
