Mass Shooting at Orlando Club

Sounds encouraging, thanks.

Wonder why they called in a pedi surgeon? Just in case, maybe? Could also have been a pedi surgeon with lots of trauma center experience, I guess.

But it's ok to question a KKK supporter. That's not shrouded in political correctness like when discussing someone who's Muslim.

You cant really compare a group like the KKK to a being Muslim. Just like you can't compare terrorist to Christians...

While many hateful groups act based on "perceived" religious reasons. A hate group & religion are too totally different things.

It has nothing to do with political correctness. It has to do with not labeling an entire group because of some bad individuals.

I'm a christian but I have grown up around a number of Muslims who are some of the nicest people I know & they too are hurting after this tragic event.

There have been multiple mass shootings by Christians and I would be hurt & offended if someone decided all Christians are bad people over the actions of another Christian.

Yes you rented it. Presumably under their guidance. If they didn't adhere to the guidelines set forth that's on them. I honestly don't know all the ins and outs of it due to cost. To purchase a fully auto(again an old one) is quite pricey, and rare. Purchasing newer autos is basically only allowed in Hollywood and rental stores such as you visited, not allowed in general public.

What I'm trying to say is that no-one did any background tests on me - I forked over the money for the targets and rounds and got given the weapons straight to my hand. As I said, if I were of the mind, I could have killed a group of people in seconds. No safety checks whatsoever.

I rented a car once. No safety check at all.

Everyone has an opportunity to kill a group of people, but they generally don't. The vast majority don't even have a plan for it - even fewer go on the internet to reveal their plan. ;)

There's about 16,000 active gun ranges in the US. You rarely hear of anybody snapping the way you describe and blowing away everyone in the range.

The comment about the KKK was in response to a poster ahead of me who brought it up.

And it has everything to do with being politically correct. People are afraid to speak up for fear they will be shamed and shouted down for questioning anyone Muslim, even for good reason. Remember the reports after the San Bernadino shooting? People said they saw questionable things but were afraid to speak up.

People in this case spoke up, but we have no idea why they weren't followed more closely by the FBI. Perhaps there was nothing there to warrant it. Or perhaps they were being overly cautious because he was Muslim.

Just saying, it would be so easy... I would have thought that at least the ammunition would have been kept separate from the firearm? Limit my killing power? I practice match shooting and let me tell you now, our safety checks FAR outweigh what I experienced in Vegas. And we are limited to air rifles and LSR weapons only.

I think we'd a different forum to discuss the many ways it would be easy. Most of them wouldn't involve going to a commercial business and having to rent anything.

I wonder... why make things so easy for the potential killers out there to commit murder? True, you can kill someone with a car, but it is soooo much easier with a gun. Point and squeeze. Repeat. Suddenly 50 people are down. Which is the crux of the matter. I live in a country where laws are very tight and they work - we just don't get mass shootings as a rule. Whereas America suffers from them every week it seems! Why make it so easy for murderers? Instead of giving me a machine gun, at least perform a background check on me first. Indeed, instead of just handing out machine guns AT ALL just limit me to single fire weapons. Limit the killing power. Limit the deaths.

Well how many Christians do you question about being bigots or homophobic? Religion isn't the issue here.

Right. Pretty sure the Newtown killer was "Christian" or some other "accepted" faith. Christians kill people all the time and spread hatred as much as anyone. I'm Christian and have heard priests put down people not totally aligned with their faith.

Seems like security put him off, although we may soon see metal detectors at DS

So the "security theatre" worked, at least in this case?

Exactly

I agree its a slippery slope for putting someone in jail because of their beliefs, but I hope we don't turn around tomorrow and see the maniac father do something similar. It would appear he has the same red flags as his son.

I'm trying to say this carefully, it seems that as much as his dad is a terrible person who may have very well encouraged his sons actions and likely supported or at least is pleased, he doesn't have the "guts" to carry out one himself otherwise we would have had two shooters in the club.
It is possible he knew nothing about it, but if he did surely he could be chargd him with something

KKK is a specific group, like Isis, it is okay to call Isis terrorists and no one is going to call you out for being politically incorrect. However since all Muslims are not part of Isis it is incorrect to label them all terrorists, a little like saying any white guy with a shaved head must be part of the Aryan brotherhood

Anyone who has both shot a gun and driven a car knows that isn't true.

It may have been a pediatric trauma surgeon who would have trauma center experience and could help.

I expect that was the reason as well. Even though most of his or her regular surgeries were on children, the trauma experience would have been helpful even with adults.

I've handled and been made proficient in dozens of firearms, both target shooting and combat firing in the military. Trust me, nothing, NOTHING kills like a weapon. Especially not a semi or fully automatic firearm.

I work at a level 1 trauma center in NJ. We have 8 trauma surgeons on staff including dozens of orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons and general surgeons that are part of trauma calls.
Right, that's exactly the point I was trying to make in a couple of earlier posts -- the trauma surgeons are just the tip of the iceberg. There are dozens of other personnel -- nurses, techs of various disciplines, etc. -- and all of them are critically important.

The tweets posted earlier sound encouraging to me. What do you think?

Everyone still talking about guns might want to stop. There was a post from a webmaster last night that I never saw and all I was doing was comparing magazine rounds and got hit with points 10 minutes after it was posted. I went back a found it after I was done posting a message and refreshed my phone. Apparently guns now are considered political and religious talk on this thread. You might be able to start a different thread, not sure.

Point taken. I'll get off my soap box :)

Then maybe it's driving lessons you need. ;)
