Mass Shooting at Orlando Club

Point taken. I'll get off my soap box :)
Just looking out for everyone. I'm all about a good conversation with disagreements. I think it's good to hear the other side or a different view point from our own. I just think they were trying to get everyone back on track.

Two Boston firefighters trained in peer counseling are headed to Florida to support firefighters who responded to Sunday’s mass shooting in Orlando.

The Boston Fire Department received a request from the International Association of Fire Fighters through the local union for two of their “certified, highly trained Peer Support Firefighter Councilors,” the department announced Monday.

The request for the two firefighters, who will join a team of similarly trained firefighters from across the country, was “immediately” approved by Fire Commissioner Joseph Finn, according to department spokesman Steve MacDonald.

The firefighters are expected to begin working in Orlando on Monday evening.

I thought it was simple math. I mean, why make weapons with a faster firing rate if it's not better for killing?

You need to put the intent of the person that wants to kill a lot of people in your equation. This will make the equation complex.

Everyone still talking about guns might want to stop. There was a post from a webmaster last night that I never saw and all I was doing was comparing magazine rounds and got hit with points 10 minutes after it was posted. I went back a found it after I was done posting a message and refreshed my phone. Apparently guns now are considered political and religious talk on this thread. You might be able to start a different thread, not sure.

They have always been considered political. Don't even mention the g-word or you'll get points. You'll probablly get points for this post. Heck, I'll probably get points.

Given what the event was and that it's hard to discuss it without mentioning the unmentionable word, I'm surprised this thread was allowed to continue at all.

Right, that's exactly the point I was trying to make in a couple of earlier posts -- the trauma surgeons are just the tip of the iceberg. There are dozens of other personnel -- nurses, techs of various disciplines, etc. -- and all of them are critically important.

The tweets posted earlier sound encouraging to me. What do you think?

Yup. If a patient comes in and needs a craniotomy a trauma surgeon will call the neurosurgeon on call to come in and do it. There are so many subspecialties that play a role in trauma calls.

When you hear "trauma alert to the helipad" or to admitting it's not only trauma that responds. It's a whole team.

They sound encouraging to me also. The fact that the patients trickled in and not all 50 showed up at once, it gave them time to call in staff is very promising.

I'll just add this...

Ronald Reagan made a good point. One can legitimately own a firearm for hunting or home defence, as per the law of the land. But no-one needs such a weapon as was used in this disaster. You can be pro-firearm but not over-the-top pro-firearm.

Thank you for sharing this. There is nothing so meaningful to have support from those who have walked in the same shoes.
Our first responders are true American heroes.

I am just saying it isn't as simple as she/he thinks. It is a complex issue that includes how a person is raised or brain washed and the intent on doing harm.

I would love to respond to you, but I will get points.

Well that's nice :tilt:

I wonder... why make things so easy for the potential killers out there to commit murder? True, you can kill someone with a car, but it is soooo much easier with a gun. Point and squeeze. Repeat. Suddenly 50 people are down. Which is the crux of the matter. I live in a country where laws are very tight and they work - we just don't get mass shootings as a rule. Whereas America suffers from them every week it seems! Why make it so easy for murderers? Instead of giving me a machine gun, at least perform a background check on me first. Indeed, instead of just handing out machine guns AT ALL just limit me to single fire weapons. Limit the killing power. Limit the deaths.

Nearly one mass shooting a day in the US. Far more than one a week. It's just that they become so routine we don't even hear about them, unless it's like this one. Also on Sat night/Sun morning, a guy shot and killed his wife and his four children. Arizona I believe. Bet you didn't hear about that one, Domo.

They're just so common in America we often don't hear about them anymore. It's kinda sad.

I was looking at the pictures and stories of the victims, so many young, beautiful people.....makes me so mad

Looks like some of the victims were 18-19 so that would explain the pediatric surgeons better.

When looking at statements like this people jump to the idea of a columbine, sandy hook, Orlando type shooting. But when classifying mass shootings they include gang shootouts, drug deals gone bad, cop shootings where bystanders are wounded, etc.

Wow really? That was uncalled for.
I believe they meant to say they have already been brainwashed to not believe them. I watch multiple news sources and for the past few years fox has been pretty spot on and usually first to report the actual truth. Not always but most of the time. Only once other news outlets are called out on it do they come around. Oh, btw, fox was right.
