Mass shooting at Fort Hood- Killeen

I don't give a rat's *** who this guy prayed to. He turned his back on those that he should have considered his family. This isn't about a mental breakdown or about your religious choice; this was deliberate murder. If he wanted to be a martyr for his cause he could have did it so much more publicly without taking anyone down with him. He gets no sympathy from me.

This is the 3rd major fragging incident that I know of since I've been involved with the army. The first time was another guy who didn't want to be involved in this war. He threw a couple grenades into a tent and killed 3 people and injured more. His sorry *** is sitting on death row at Ft. Leavenworth and I hope he has a cell mate soon.
Well said Tina! :thumbsup2

No one forced this guy to join the service. He was certainly more than happy to take a small fortune from the US government to fund his medical school education. But when the government expected him to carry out his end of the deal, he wasn't so interested in serving "his" country any longer. So he'll bleed the government dry to pay for med school, and then say, "So long, suckers...."?

Reports are saying he was disturbed because he was being sent to Iraq and "might have to hurt other Muslims." Well, cry me a river. How many Christian US service men and women have had to fight and even kill, other Christians in the line of duty? Being in the military isn't play checkers......Wars happen. And it's safe to say, that at least since our troubles with Iran in the 70s, conflict with some Muslim nation was not out of the question. He knew that when he signed up.

I don't buy the "he was bullied" line of defense his relatives are already trying to sell. Their pathetic attempts to portray him as a victim are an insult to those he murdered. Perhaps he was the target of a few rude remarks, but he's a senior officer and a psychiatrist at that. If he was truly being harassed that much, I think he'd have done something about it short of mass murder. Nope, this guy had an agenda. A sick, twisted agenda. Red flags were all over the place.

I'm not saying all Muslims are dangerous, so don't jump to that conclusion. But this one was. Between his internet postings and remarks he made to others, people should have been getting chill bumps at the thought of him anywhere NEAR a military base.

If I hear, "He was upset at being sent to Iraq" one more time, I'll scream. Who IS jumping up and down with JOY at being sent to Iraq? I'd hazard a guess that a huge percentage of those being deployed to Iraq are upset, sad, scared, filled with dread, worried, etc. But God bless them, they do their duty and don't go around shooting their fellow soldiers. They do what they have to do. They deserved far better than they got from this coward.

PERFECTLY stated.:thumbsup2

The guy your thinking of was
Sgt. Asan Akbar
who through grenades into tents of sleeping soldiers killing one ane wounding a dozen.

or maybe....

Ali A. Mohamed.
Soon after he was honorably discharged from the Army in 1989, Mohamed hooked up with Osama bin Laden as an escort, trainer, bagman and messenger. Mohamed used his U.S. passport to conduct surveillance at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi; he later pled guilty to conspiring with bin Laden to “attack any Western target in the Middle East” and admitted his role in the 1998 African embassy bombings that killed more than 200 people, including a dozen Americans.

Or perhaps,

Semi Osman.
Osman served in a naval reserve fueling unit based in Tacoma, Wash.
Osman was arrested as part of a federal investigation into the establishment of a terrorist training camp in Bly, Oregon.

And don't forget this guy...

John Muhammad.
The Beltway sniper and Muslim convert was a member of the Army’s 84th Engineering Company. In an eerie parallel to the Akbar case, Muhammad is suspected of throwing a thermite grenade into a tent housing 16 of his fellow soldiers as they slept before the ground-attack phase of Gulf War I in 1991. Muhammad’s superior, Sgt. Kip Berentson, told both Newsweek and The Seattle Times that he immediately suspected Muhammad, who was “trouble from day one.”

Soldiers who witnessed the shooting rampage at Fort Hood that left 13 people dead reported that the gunman shouted “Allahu Akbar!” before opening fire, the base commander said Friday.

I would have to agree that EMom has hit the nail squarely on the head.

My thoughts are with those poor soldiers' families at this time. :(

I agree 100%. This is one of the saddest things and I am devestated for those people and their families. I hope this man sits in jail the rest of his life and thinks about what he's done.

I find this completely bigoted. There are many cases in and out of the military of non-Muslims committing crimes of this sort.

Also, there is a lot of conjecture about this guy based upon his religion yet there are very few details of what actually happened. The only thing we know at this point is that he is obviously an extremely disturbed man.

Transferring responsibility and/or motivations for his crimes to the larger Muslim world is bigoted, irresponsible and just plain wrong.

That isn't entirely fair just pulling those names. This isn't about finger pointing to one group of people. Sgt Akabar was the incident I was referring to. It personally hits home to me as my husband was two tents away when this happened.

Another incident that happened was by Sgt. Alberto Martinez of the New York National Guard in 2005. He killed his two of his superiors.

This is no way about religion or nationality. This is purely about loyalty and knowing what is right or wrong.

Where do you get off calling me bigoted?
I didn't name these savages, somebody else did.

They did say that Hassan stood on a table before the shooting and shouted "God is great" so while I don't agree that this has anything to do with Muslims as a whole (and I don't think Islam calls for killing Christians...I think people have perverted the religion to support their individual beliefs and others have done it with Christianity as well), I do think that his individual religious views were part of the motive for this.

I think that is a very accurate way of putting it. You cannot ignore the Islam religion connection.

What a sad and horrific event. Many prayers to those whose loved ones were injured and/or killed and those who are cleaning up the aftermath.

FYI Sgt. Alberto Martinez was acquitted, found not guilty......

Also, press reports say soldiers on the scene heard Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, shout ' Allahu Akbar!' before opening fire, and this is ' in no way about religion or nationality' ?

I do not care what he was shouting and I don't care who he prays to. He could pray to little green men for all I care.

My issue is he killing his military family. There is no honor and loyalty in that. He should have remembered he was a United States Army Soldier first and foremost. I feel the same about Sgt Martinez.

Sgt. Martinez recieved an HONORABLE discharge from the army.
Sad that people disparage our troops who serve.

Well, Tina knows about the troops. Her husband has served our country proudly for many years, and she herself works with military families.

so it's even more the shame that those troops that have served honorably get such treatment.

My family and I just relocated to Texas about 3 weeks ago and my husband works on Fort Hood, I did not read all of the previous post but if you know anyone who has been injured or killed my family is offering condolences to you.
