Mass shooting at Fort Hood- Killeen

The guy who shot everyone is a muslim. They say he was having trouble with being deployed. I wonder why??? Hopefully he lives so he can be tried in a military court.

This whole thing is so...weird. I wonder why they couldn't release the info that he was still alive hours ago.

Because it's through the military. I'm really not trying to sound anti-army or military (my dh is in the army,) but honestly, they aren't going to release anymore than they have to until they can make sure they can look as faultless as possible and have time to get their story ready and have it look as good as possible.

I agree. Not to long ago a base close to us had a commander commit suicide and they were very hush hush about the situation.

Yeah, it's pretty disturbing how much is turned around ect. My dh has been in Iraq for 1/2 of the last 61/2 yrs. and there have been a handful of ppl. that have committed suicide while over there with him, and the general public would never know that's what happened. The news always reports it as a soldie was killed in Iraq, not by enemy fire ect. I used to always think it meant they were all accidents ect., but came to find out many times it means the soldier committed suicide. I don't get the need to lie:confused3

My brother and nephew are stationed at Fort Hood, thank God brother was here in Baton Rouge visiting family this week and nephew is in Iraq.

God bless all involved.

This is so wrong.. Here these military people were getting ready to be deployed and they end up being murdered right here in Texas..:(

God bless all of those poor families..:sad1:

I think it is possible that once they had him, they needed to make sure no one was going to go in and take instant revenge on him. It would take a little while to secure him adequately in the hospital.
Emotions were extreme beyond measure, and there were were a lot of guns around.

There is an 800 pound elephant in the room that few in the media will touch. One JAG guy dared to tonight on CNN and you'd have thought he was speaking with the Devil's tongue from the reaction of the other panelists. Sorry, but the more that comes out, the more it sounds as if the JAG guy's speculation was closer to the mark than that of the other panelists, who mostly seemed to lean toward the theory that it was PTSD.

My husband called to wake me up this morning (I'm in Kuwait) and his first words were to get on my computer and go to Fox News. The last time someone woke me up to check out the news was 9/11 so I was not a happy camper. Dh is an Army AMEDD recruiter...basically he's a recruiter for medical officers (any sort of medical from doctors to staff workers). He and his commander were actually talking to some ROTC cadets and their phones kept going off. They were trying to get ahold of them because at that time they didn't know if it was a single thing or if it would happen elsewhere. Plus, Dh's office is in Little Rock. It's not the same office where the shooting recently occurred though, thank god.

Anyways, yeah...this guy had never been deployed before and was NOW saying he was a concientious objector. I GET not wanting to get deployed, but I do NOT get Killing a bunch of people because you are scared to be deployed!!!!! These were people who have just come back and people who were about to head out.

I'd also read that, like some have said, he was harrassed. BUT that it was back around 9/11. It wasn't recently.

The whole thing just makes me sick.

No one forced this guy to join the service. He was certainly more than happy to take a small fortune from the US government to fund his medical school education. But when the government expected him to carry out his end of the deal, he wasn't so interested in serving "his" country any longer. So he'll bleed the government dry to pay for med school, and then say, "So long, suckers...."?

Reports are saying he was disturbed because he was being sent to Iraq and "might have to hurt other Muslims." Well, cry me a river. How many Christian US service men and women have had to fight and even kill, other Christians in the line of duty? Being in the military isn't play checkers......Wars happen. And it's safe to say, that at least since our troubles with Iran in the 70s, conflict with some Muslim nation was not out of the question. He knew that when he signed up.

I don't buy the "he was bullied" line of defense his relatives are already trying to sell. Their pathetic attempts to portray him as a victim are an insult to those he murdered. Perhaps he was the target of a few rude remarks, but he's a senior officer and a psychiatrist at that. If he was truly being harassed that much, I think he'd have done something about it short of mass murder. Nope, this guy had an agenda. A sick, twisted agenda. Red flags were all over the place.

I'm not saying all Muslims are dangerous, so don't jump to that conclusion. But this one was. Between his internet postings and remarks he made to others, people should have been getting chill bumps at the thought of him anywhere NEAR a military base.

If I hear, "He was upset at being sent to Iraq" one more time, I'll scream. Who IS jumping up and down with JOY at being sent to Iraq? I'd hazard a guess that a huge percentage of those being deployed to Iraq are upset, sad, scared, filled with dread, worried, etc. But God bless them, they do their duty and don't go around shooting their fellow soldiers. They do what they have to do. They deserved far better than they got from this coward.

I completely agree with your post, word for word.

Being a soldier is about doing what you have to do.

I don't give a rat's *** who this guy prayed to. He turned his back on those that he should have considered his family. This isn't about a mental breakdown or about your religious choice; this was deliberate murder. If he wanted to be a martyr for his cause he could have did it so much more publicly without taking anyone down with him. He gets no sympathy from me.

This is the 3rd major fragging incident that I know of since I've been involved with the army. The first time was another guy who didn't want to be involved in this war. He threw a couple grenades into a tent and killed 3 people and injured more. His sorry *** is sitting on death row at Ft. Leavenworth and I hope he has a cell mate soon.

I agree. You are a conscientious objector o you kill people? Makes no sense to me. The armed services are not mandatory so if someone objects to participating then that person should consider a different employer.

ITA! I have two nephews serving so I have absolutely no sympathy for anyone who enlists and then when the assignment is not what he envisioned her chooses to take the cowards way out by killing innocent men and women. This was the worst kind if suicide attempt and there is no punishment that I can imagine that would fit this crime.

Perfectly stated.

I agree with every word. :worship:

My heart hurts from all of of this. I am so very sorry to those hurt by this person's actions.

I called my parents (who are traveling at the moment and don't have access to the news in their mobile home unless my dad hooks up the satellite...something he isn't going to do until they get to their destination) and let them know what happened as far as I knew. Five minutes later, I had to call my mom back and let her know that two of the people (the civilian police officer and the shooter) that they had said were dead weren't. I didn't tell her who the two were at first and just said "two of the people they said were dead are in stable condition" and when she said "good", I said "yeah, except one of them's the shooter." Her response was that that was actually a good thing because now we might find out why he did it before he got the death penalty which he almost definitely will because of it happening at a military base. I hadn't even thought of that (because I'd gotten into the mindset of "at least the shooter's dead, too" during the afternoon) so I guess I'm glad he's still alive as well. Maybe we'll get some answers out of him before we put him to death.

Tina, I agree 100%.

This whole thing makes me sick to my stomache and leaves me feeling both angry and sad today.

.

Here, here. Long before 9/11, I noticed a disturbing amount of people who used the service as a diploma mill. Even at Annapolis, where the best and brightest supposedly go, some cadets complained to a congressmen about the possibility of going to war. Conscientious objectors in an all volunteer army, give me a break!
