Marvel characters coming to Disney parks?

Already, DW and I noticed a very subtle introduction of Marvel products int he Disney stores... at first we were "what the..."... but then "ooooh yeeeah...." ...

So it would not surprise me that characters would follow. Have to say though... I'm not too into the idea ( and I DO like Marvel ).

I was talking with a cast member in Guest Relations at MK in WDW two weeks ago. He said that the gossip in the Mouseketeria is that they are going to get rid of LMA and the Streets of America in DHS and replace it with Marvel stuff or make it into a Cars themed area. He also said that when he does the behind the scenes tours and mentions the gossip, the overwhelming response is positive for Marvel.

I am no fan of LMA, and of course Streets of America may seem an area that should be put to better use.

But where would that leave Osborne Lights? I tell you I've seen them for the first time last Thanksgiving and it gave that area of the park a whole new meaning.

I agree with many of the PPs. DHS is fine. Anywhere else, I would think they would ruin the themes.

Honestly..... We already completed a survey in which we were asked if we would like to see Hulk in MK...... I hope not! Somewhere in DHS, why not?

You do realize that they are talking about the character not the ride. Which its my understanding they can't because US still owns the rights.

US owns outright the Hulk coaster, if WDW bought those rights back they wouldn't get the ride.

Not saying that they wouldn't build a coaster around the Hulk but it wouldn't be that ride.

This goes for all the Marvel based rides at US. Its just that I have read many posts here form people not only expecting all the characters to move but the attractions also.

For what it's worth - I don't see bring Marvel characters into the parks as just a boy attention-grabber. I think teens and adults of both genders could love it if it was done right. My girls are both teens and enjoy both Marvel and DC and various anime comics.

Also, depending on the Hero I could see him/her fitting in to DHS, EPCOT or AK.

Different set of characters, as I read it.

As pointed out in the LA Times article, it's not likely that the Marvel characters will come to any of the WDW parks any time soon because of the exclusivity agreement with Universal. Universal really doesn't have an incentive to get out of the contract especially when you consider that they just put a lot of money into upgrading Spiderman.

As for using other characters, the contract with Universal not only gives them the rights to the characters currently represented in the park, but also any characters in the same "family", the contract cites The Avengers as an example of a family, which gives them access to most if not all of the well known Marvel characters:

Storm Force Accelatron gives them all the X-Men.
Hulk/Captain America Diner gives them all the Avengers
Spirdeman obviously gives them that character and all the associated villains.
Dr Doom's Free Fall gives them the Fantastic 4

Of course there are other lesser know characters they could use, especially if they make movies about them.

The boys, little and not-so-little, in my house would be thrilled!! DHS would be an awesome venue.

+1, I think the Marvel idea is great, for us big kids. I love the idea. I think this may also be an opportunity to add more 'thrill' rides to the park too, of which I would most likely avaoid because I am a wuss.

They only own the rights to the characters that are currently on display in the IoA, correct? Couldn't Disney use other Marvel characters that aren't represented in WDW.

I think a Marvel addition to DHS would be fantastic. As a comic book fan I've made sure that DS3 has been well introduced to Marvel and he's huge on superheroes. Maybe they could do a little something with the newer Origins coming out next year? Or even The Avengers :confused3

I think the issue is that US has all the major players.

So if WDW added characters it would look like WDW only has "B list" super heroes.

DH would probably like it, but I wouldn't be too thrilled with it. I have for boys and the older three aren't really fans either. DS#4 is still too little to really say.

I just like them being separate. And besides, with as much as it is at Universal, it would feel like Disney is just trying to copy them/make them less appealing because of Harry Potter draw.

Ah, this makes complete sense. I seemed to have let my excitement have its way with me.

Wait, are y'all suggesting there isn't a demand for Man-Thing, X-Statix, and Squadron Supreme?

Now you have done it.

I was going to list some B list super heroes, but I knew once I did the Man-Thing, X-Statix, and Squadron Supreme fan boys would come out of the wood work. :rotfl:

I dont really have a problem if they come to Disney but Universal already has a MARVEL island, not saying they both cant have it i just think personally its a bit strange:confused3

Here's an idea, How about Howard? sans pants, of course. After all, Disney sued over him once and won, so it's only fitting. Then, once again, there can be 2 bare-a##ed ducks in the world!

Seriously, I've been a Marvel fan since the `60's and I'd love if Disney could do them right. But I'm afraid that we might be stuck with US for our Marvel fix (and actually, I find that area somewhat garish and outdated (I was never a big Liefield fan). If Disney were to somehow null the contract, and then maybe somehow pay homage to the greats (think Kirby, Ditko, Heck, and Romita character versions) I'd probably never leave the park!

Make Mine Marvel!, Nuff Said, FOOM, and all that stuff.
