I really was never a fan, but I can't sit here and say she doesn't have a fantastic voice. The same goes for me for the likes of Ariana Grande. I don't particularly like some of the things she has done as a person, but she has a beautiful voice. I remember watching this past Macy's Thanksgiving Parade and legend Tony Bennett was on a float with another musician singing a song and he kept messing up the words and singing when he was suppose to. I felt so bad for him as well as he is a legend.

No one says you have to like everyone! But you're right, look strictly at the talent. Same can be said for a lot of athletes too. It's a shame, but it's life I guess. Life goes on, we get invested into the Celebrity life sometimes a little more than we should (whether we like to admit it or not). To me, it distracts from the negativity of life sometimes.

Doing her own sound check would have gone a long ways toward saving her performance.

I agree with the above, except that it should say she "had" talent.

I think she still has talent, just not her 90's talent that made her famous.

You are absolutely correct that most people get way too involved in the Celebrity lives. The are just people like you and I and put their pants on the same way we all do.

If you read the Billboard article a previous poster uploaded, she did and alerted ABC that there was issues.

She had a stand in do her sound check and didn't rehearse on New Year's Eve. That is on her. I don't believe a word her "rep" says.

You probably are right, but there are pictures from her rehearsing yesterday. The Sound check we do not know, you're right. The rep is doing damage control.

The thing is the damage is done. The good thing is it will die down at some point. Just ask Steve Harvey and his Miss Universe or whatever it was mishap. People were all over that for quite awhile and now know one could care less about it.

He took that in stride and admitted the mistake, which probably helped a lot. But completely agree, just have to move on.

Exactly! If this was a one time thing I could buy "technical problems", but the technical team has come out and said things worked perfectly. Her time is done, she needs to accept it. This video did it for me years ago, not that I was ever a fan.

No malfunction of earpieces or wedge speakers..
dancers had no problem syncing to the broadcast music - which had been provided by Mariahs team.
So... we seem to have a standoff between the two sides. He said/She said. smh.

I don't think one side would say we were wrong. ABC is probably right and Mariah's Reps were digging for something. This isn't the first time Mariah has had earpiece issues, but we won't ever know. There must have been an issue, she wouldn't have thrown a hissy fit for nothing. But who knows!

Actually, she has been known to throw the hissy for no reason - hence the diva designation.

In his defense, he acknowledged his error and poked fun at himself and "played along" if you will. An odd error, but an innocent one comparitively. One might say he handled it professionally.

I commend him for doing that and don't ever expect Mariah to come out and say any of it was her mistake even how she handled it which obviously she could have done much better. As a society, we love to poke whoever is down at the bottom of the totem pole currently. Whatever reason that is, I don't know.

I don't think people have forgotten about Rosanne Barr's rendition of the anthem to cite a popular example.

You could even reference Beyoncé lip syncing the national anthem at the inauguration and she came out and admitted it and gave a direct reason for it. A lot of artists do it, many just don't get caught which is the difference

Now she is saying the production company deliberately sabotaged her for ratings. Now sure how this would impact the ratings given people wouldn't have known it was going to happen. She continues to make herself look like a spoiled brat over and over again.
