Mariah Carey

About her singing voice, I think a lot of people's voices change as they get older. Not just singers, but people in general. I know my voice has become more hoarse as I get older. I'm not a smoker either.

Now she is saying the production company deliberately sabotaged her for ratings. Now sure how this would impact the ratings given people wouldn't have known it was going to happen. She continues to make herself look like a spoiled brat over and over again.
Hahahahaha...

Yea right. If she actually thinks she is that important, then she needs to get her dang head out of the clouds. And you are correct... how can they impact the ratings with something that isn't known? People would have already had to be tuned in to see what happened.

Saying it was sobotaged is just dumb and pointless. But, this isn't her. This is all her manager and rep trying to do damage control and find someone to blame. She doesn't even run her social media, her manager's daughter does it. I agree though, it doesn't look good at all though. It is what it is lol

Your voice naturally deepens as it gets older, add in 27+ years of continuous singing and questionable care of her voice and that'll do it. She also has nodules on her vocal cords which have really hurt her. It's what Julie Andrews had. Some singers have no issue with their voice as they get older (Patti Labelle, Barbara, etc.) but Mariah's voice is so unique with how she hits her notes, I think it really hurt her long term. By '97, her voice had changed drastically from when she started '90-'96

I think there is a HUGE difference between announcing an incorrect result and refusing to sing by claiming you cannot hear anything.

Singing is the one thing where people are largely consistent about it being terrible.

I don't think people have forgotten about Rosanne Barr's rendition of the anthem to cite a popular example.

To cite a male example involving lip syncing--though not sure if they ever choked on stage...Milli Vanilli.
But do people even talk about that stuff any longer? I agree with you that what Steve Harvey did was really not as much as a mishap although it certainly screwed up the results of the Miss Universe Pageant for a few minutes. The way Steve Harvey handled the situation was also much better than Mariah Carey that is certainly for sure. The thing I am getting at is the Mariah Carey thing is the "It" thing for people to make fun of and give it about 2 months or even less and people will not even care less and move onto something else to gripe and make fun of.

Doesn't matter who runs her social media, they represent her and she is responsible for what is posted.

Well this is her first mistake. Accidents happen, debacles occur, and sometimes you are just a hot mess. People get that, and accept that celebrities are Human. What most folks will not accept is the lack of accountability. Honestly, she screwed up in an epic manner. The best thing she can do is own it, stop using spokespeople to condemn other people and speak for herself.

Exactly.

Agreed to both 100%.

And she hired them to speak for her so their words are her words. Maybe she should be more careful about that sort of thing as well.

She should clean house and hire new people. Ever since she got this new manager, she's become cheap and less about the music. I'm With you

I am not one to support a Diva (TRUST!) but as someone who works in the live music industry, there was nothing this poor woman could do...if your inner ears aren't working and you're on stage, let alone Times Square where your sound is reverberating off of every non flat and odd angle POSSIBLE, with every type of delay bouncing back at you with NO way of knowing which echo is your true live soundtrack to sing or lip sync to, you're done!! Her saying "this is as good as I get" bravo my love, lol, that took mad sass, she was blushing so hard cuz it was so out of her control. I would not want to have been the sound engineer that night, ooof!!

I do think she could have done something though. She could have taken the faulty ear piece out of her ear and told her sound engineer to turn off all the monitors that weren't working anyway. Than speaking through the Mic which was working tell the audience that they were going to join her in an A Capella version of one of her really famous songs or even Auld Lang Syne. If she would have done that instead of walking around the stage talking to the audience while her dancers kept on dancing and didn't really know what to do she would have been praised up and down by everyone.

Nobody has sung without a backing track before? I didn't know that.

She had a live mic, she is suppose to know the words to her own songs, she could have just sang the song with none of the tech.

I am not really a fan of hers tho I was years ago... when she knew her gift/voice and used it accordingly. While her voice has Aged, she continues to "try" and sing things she is no longer equipped to sing. Wearing a ridiculous outfit and expecting people to just accept the Diva attitude has just worn thin.
Imagine if some Artists relied on their Gift rather than their "outfits" lol

As far as her concert.. she clearly had no intention to Sing... she was going to lip sync anyway.. and when it all fell apart ( technical or whoever caused that debacle ) it just
Spiraled DOWN even worse.

In her case... the "media attention" is good cause I think it's all she gets... unless it's the divorce/engagement/family drama.
Just my 2 cents.

Mariah can no longer sing the way she did years ago. Instead of admitting this to herself and adjusting her songs to her new singing range she'd rather blame anyone but herself.

Voices change over the years. That's something most can't change. Nothing to be ashamed of.

She also needs to ditch the outfits. She is way too big to be wearing what she wears. She also seems to have a balance issue because she constantly needs assistance walking and during her shows and in photo shoots she is carried around by men. Sometimes the looks on their faces when they try to lift her is painful.

Maybe she has medical issues that they are not talking about.

Have never been a huge fan of hers, always seemed too "diva-ish" for me. I was so amused by her back up dancers. They truly embody the spirit of "the show must go on." I felt so bad for them, but man, they carried on like pro's. I felt really bad for the poor guy who had to lead her around.

I don't know much about singing in public, microphones, earpieces or technical aspects of the performance, but I don't know why she just didn't attempt to sing. Anything would have been better than what she did. She sounded fine in the beginning when she sang "auld lang syne" then it all fell apart.

As far as the outfits, I really think she needs to accept that she needs to change her look. At her age she just looks silly strutting around in tight body suits, heels and thongs. She actually looked nice for the second song when she put a long wrap skirt around the bathing suit thing she was wearing.

In case anyone is interested in an additional pathetic attempt at damage control, Mariah's rep gives the (so-called) play by play action of what happened.

http://ew.com/tv/2017/01/02/mariah-carey-nye-what-really-happened/

Not buying it. She's claiming there were ear piece problems right from the start. Yet the first song, Auld Land Syne sounded OK, even though it was obviously lip-synced. The problem started in the second song when Mariah lost it and couldn't fake it anymore.

The rep should just shut up already. Some of her comments make Team Mariah sound even worse than the actual performance.

Oh yeah, the producer begging her to cut short her Aspen vacation to appear because this country needs her right now. :rotfl2:

Technical issues or voice issues - doesn't matter to me. She's a multi-million dollar entertainer that has been in the industry for a very long time and she just stumbled around the stage and made random comments. The show must go on - so do something. Dance with the dancers, stop the show and do something else, get the audience more involved, tell people what the problem was etc. Stuff happens and how you deal with it shows what kind of professional you are. She failed miserably.
