I don't understand why she is still getting such good gigs. Every time I see her on some tv special singing, it is always a song she sang, what, back in the 90's? I admit to not being a fan but has she not had recent hits? If not, why is she still being asked to sing?

lol.In the very beginning of her performance I thought that there was a sound problem because she said something about not doing a sound check. Whatever was going on it was extremely awkward to see.
Totally off topic, someone else mentioned over acting. What was up with Fergie? She was overly animated, it seemed to me she was trying way too hard.

I totally agree that she once had one of the best voices in music. There is no disputing that at all. The thing that gets me is why instead of walking around the stage talking to the audience seconds into her performance and she knew what was wrong did she not stop the entire thing and attempt to get it fixed and start over? I don't understand that. They could have easily panned back to Ryan Seacreast and he could have said she was experiencing technical difficulties. It would have been better than what was about to happen in the next several minutes. Also those poor dancers who kept on going and seemed shocked, but stayed very professional throughout the entire thing. As a huge Mariah fan, this is exactly what happened and I can give some insight. Mariah usually sings over a backing track (a lot of singers do, google it, it's not out of the ordinary) and the audio is fed through her ear piece and even if there is no backing track, these pieces feed what the audio is so you can hear yourself since it is so loud. Her ear piece wasn't working, so she could not hear herself or the backing track at all. She has sustained some pretty significant vocal damage too from singing basically from her youngest years, so yes, she can't sing like she did in the 90s. She does lip sync, but she can STILL SING. Look it up, she's not 90's anymore, but she's not absolutely terrible. I can't defend the Diva attitude or what happened last night, it was so hard to watch and she really needs to start preparing more, but I just wanted to tell everyone what really happened. She is truly one of the greatest voices we've ever had (there's a reason the Vocal Trinity is known as Whitney, Mariah and Celine). She's struggled in these past couple years, but let's not forget the immaculate voice she had. Have a great New Year every one!

It feels like the Diva attitude has only been going on for about 7 maybe 8 years now? I feel like the media hyped her up as a diva and she ran with the image and it's just getting worse. Even in her prime I don't recall her being this way. Mariah could have easily had a decent set last night live or not. I much prefer her in concert than on tv singing.
I don't know how anyone does anything live. I took two wrong turns on the way home from Walmart yesterday. No alcohol, no drugs, a place I've been going for over 10 years, just a brain fart. She did not handle it well, but how terribly embarrassing for her!
I understand all of that, but I assure you they are paying Mariah Carey a lot of money to perform there so even having the issues worked out and than the ball drop and than have her perform would have been a better option than what happened in my opinion.I think if she wasn't the very last performer before the ball dropped they could've, but with sponsors who are paying MILLIONS to have their commercials seen, stopping the performance probably would have gone too long. I mean it was horrible to watch, I don't know what could have been realistically done to save it.
You're right, the whole diva thing started probably around 2005, went away for a little bit but the past 4 years has been really weird. A lot of people say the Diva thing is a coverup because she's very emotionally unstable with how so many people have taken advantage of her over the years and the lonliness. I think it's a coverup. And I agree, if you watch videos of her in Vegas and her last tour, she really does sound good. But usually on national TV, it's just not right.
