Mariah Carey

I didn't see it but in my opinion she has really lost her ability to sing in the last couple years.
I saw the performance that was done on Thanksgiving and replayed for Christmas and it was awful. You could hear the track more than you could hear her live voice and when you did hear her live voice it sounded not much like the track.
Very disappointing.

Even on her worst day, it is still better than anything I could ever do!

At points she was lip sync'ing and she wasn't even doing that well. I can't imagine they would ever want her back again, don't they have to pay performers to do these things? She should have paid them for letting her appear!

Very fitting end to 2016. Disastrous performance to end a disastrous, sad year. I am not a fan of Mariah Carey at all but I kind of like her statement afterwards.

Not that I'd ever defend Mariah Cary but she has a beef. They make them lip synch these things ostensibly because they want them going without a hitch and someone's incompetence caused an even bigger glitch.

That's why I don't really watch these things any more. It's not a real performance.

Evidently they played the wrong song but really, did she not know the words to her own song. I get it that her stage production and dances were arranged to a different song but a real professional should be able to improvise on the fly. It was her own song, the audience knew it and was singing. I'm shocked every time I see her booked as the headliner. She almost always lip syncs, even indoors. The one time I've seen her sing live lately she was out of tune and didn't know the words. I've never been impressed with her, even in her hey day and seriously who dresses the woman? As we say down here in the south, "she looks like she's been rode hard and put up wet". My honey read an article yesterday that they were expecting a problem because her handlers weren't sure what time she should be there and asked what time does the ball drop? Seriously, what time does the ball drop? They arranged for someone to pick her up after that.

It was embarrassing. I'm not a huge fan of Mariah but can appreciate that she has talent.

Obviously she was lip syncing and had unexpected technical issues, but I can't feel bad for her. As an experienced professional, she should've been able to deal with it. You know the old saying how the show must go on. She just gave up and didn't even attempt to sing live. And if the cold bothered her, she should've worn more clothing. :rolleyes2

I didn't watch that show during the NYE events, but supposedly it was because she couldn't hear the music because the monitors weren't working and that's why she says, "Turn off the monitors" half-way through. Who knows? The Twitter comments were pretty hilarious, though.

I was watching the CNN NYE show after the Kathy Griffin portion was over (can't stand that woman). Don Lemon and Brooke Baldwin were in New Orleans and Lemon got so hammered he was standing on top of the bar and got an ear piercing on the air. I really like the CNN news personalities, especially Lemon. But dang, it seems like all of those NYE shows act way over-the-top.

I've actually seen her live multiple times going back to 2003 - and a couple of them were in NYC at the Beacon Theatre where she does her annual Christmas show. She's really great live and i'm not sure why she has so many problems with these events. I know she gets a lot of criticism for lip synching, but what I saw from her at the Beacon just a few weeks ago was live and great. I was close to the stage and you could tell it was not pre-recorded. She even sang with along with the piano player and improvised when necessary and for fun.

Her team is a mess though but I do enjoy her concerts - just not these one off performances. Oh well. We'll all be hearing "All I want for Christmas" again in November like nothing ever happened.

We saw it - we were at a small New Years Eve party. We helped her out though - the adults sang it for her and we lip synced fabulously - even the guys.
It was hilarious and we had fun with it. The teenagers thought we had all lost our minds. LOL

I figure she was drugged out and was surprised ABC didn't just cut away. I noticed they cut off her microphone at the end.

She's pretty much a caricature or SNL parody of herself anymore.

Technical issues, huh? Were they also the cause of her slurring her words or having to ask the dancers for help up and down a few stairs?

I actually did (or thought I did) see her at the end at midnight?

I thought I saw a brief glimpse of her right before midnight, but the camera ignored her after that. Maybe she stormed off the stage when she wasn't getting the attention she wanted.

Idina Menzel got blasted a year or two ago because she missed a high note while singing live outside.. some professionals really do try. She could have asked for the music to be turned off and sung anything unaccompanied.. just giving up one second after the music started was crazy.

We saw it. It was so awkward! When they did get the track for her next song, they forgot to turn off her mic so you could hear her "singing" with the track. You could tell she was livid when she walked off the stage! Someone is getting fired for that.

Should be her that is fired. She should be able to sing her own songs.

The problem is, if she was expecting to lip sync her entire set, she wouldn't have done the proper prep, and warm ups a live performance requires. Some people can just stand up and belt their songs out for hours with no prep, but many others can't.

So even if she wanted to "sing her own song" she probably couldn't without risking damage to her vocal chords.

Seen it on you tube. I was at Epcot a long time ago for a Christmas show taping of a few different singers. Don't ask me the names i forget now. But it took them a lot of tries to get a good song out. They will start to sing than they will just stop because something didn't go right. Probably about a average of three tries for song to get it right. They are only human

Big difference between taping a show and doing a live performance. Of course they will so multiple takes while taping to get it right but you can't do that at a live performance. She is suppose to be a professional, she should act like one.

It didn't seem to bother her dancers any, they continued to perform just fine.

Risk damaging her vocal cord...please! If she is that fragile it is time for her to give it up.

A Facebook friend jokingly speculated that she was a total B to one of the crew before the show, so he "accidentally" flipped the off switch.

If this had happened to some other singer, there might be more sympathy. But she's generally perceived as a difficult conceited diva prima donna, so the gleeful schadenfreude is running off the charts.
