March 2016 Pre Trip and Trip reports

For you March people, I just posted the movie and recreation calendar for this month. I hope I will bump into you at the Easter activities, the tie-dye, or a movie. I'll be roasting marshmallows like crazy - someone will have to knock me off my sugar high.

Bama Ed

Thanks. Made tie-dye shirts last trip, pretty cool. Always have to go to at least one movie.

I have tried everyday two or three times a day to add a day to our reservation. I want to add the night of April 5th and I am having no luck!

Does the fort still have a 5 day before arrival cancellation policy to get your deposit back?

What type of site are you looking for? There is one type available for that day. You do have 5 days before to cancel. I kept calling to add a extra day and was able to get what I needed. Good luck.

20 hrs. before we hit the road. This will be my last post for awhile. Tried washing the car windows but it was to cold, windex froze, will have to wait for tomorrow. Bags are packed and just waiting till tomorrow to get loaded. Trying to get out of work around 2 pm, not sure how that is going to work out.

All March campers have a safe trip and we will see you soon.

Safe travels Vince, be careful as you come down PA was storm shooting to our south bringing some snow.

Joining in! Will be there March 19th to the 25th. Super pumped! going to leave Pensacola at 11:00pm on Friday the 18th. I like driving thru the middle of the night. I should roll in to the Fort at around 8:00am.

Vince, you and the family (especially Little Medic) be careful.

Only 13 days to go!:yay: I called the bike barn on Friday in hope they would have golf carts available for the the 19th-25th and he said YES! I almost did not call thinking I was wasting my time. This is going to be the longest 13 days ever! Glad I got you guys to keep keep me going!

So, went to work Friday at 5 a.m. and never finished until 6 p.m. got home put bags in car and we where on the road at 7:45 p.m. Got to a rest area just north of DC at4:30 this morning and stopped for a 2 hr nap. At 5:30 p.m. we pulled into St Mary's GA. for a good nights sleep, then up early to get to Titusville in the morning.

Lovely day here in the 'ham for some Fort Wilderness trip prep. :dogdance:

The memory foam mattress topper arrived and I put it in the Aliner already. Since we will be in the MK the first few days and driving down, my DW and DD asked that we set up the sofa bed and dinette in the bed configurations and leave them that way for the first several days. They object to the daily setting up/taking down (I'm the one that ends up doing it mostly) but in this case it makes sense.

I rolled the Aliner into the drive and Windexed the bubbles on the outside.

My mom made me a Mickey pillow for my birthday recently and it has gone into the camper. Also got some new "15" national championship koozies for in case guests drop by to chat camping stuff (if TRS is good I might let him keep one).

Checked all my outdoor light strings. I am bringing 2 strings of Mickey head globes and 2 long strings of clear lights for the EZ up awning. Also checked my Mickey globe lamp made a couple trips back with CDNCruiser's directions (thanks again Gary).

The light bulb inside is DIS green but my black PVC pole stand is scratched and the white PVC shows through. I've still got the black spray can so I threw it in the crate with the globe and will finish it off when I get to the Fort.

Another pre-Fort step is always to put my old FW spare tire cover on. I bought it years ago for the spare on my old Jayco popup which had bigger tires. So it's a little oversized now but I put 4 grommet holes in the back and bungeed it tight. I only put it on the camper for the trips to/from the Fort. For my regular travels I rely on my swoosh-A Bama cover that I am lucky enough to use.

Got the bikes all checked out, aired up, and ready to go. Funny thing is we love to bike when we go camping (not in our home neighborhood - too hilly) but this will be our first trip to the Fort with the new matching cruisers for me and DW. They have Fort-approved front and rear lights and a thumb-operated bell on the handlebars to let people know I am coming up behind them. :snail:

Got a few more things staged in the garage ready to put my hands on when loading time comes. Next weekend will be getting the car washed and those last minute prep things that I've forgotten so far.

Tick tock. :hourglass Less than 2 weeks till we hit the road.

Bama, How do you haul your bikes down to the Fort? Do you have a rack system? We pull our popup with a Jeep Commander so we do not have a way to bring our bikes. We too were out this weekend getting everything ready! 12 days and counting!:rainbow:

Not at the Fort yet, but took a day trip to Epcot for the Flower and Garden Festival. It was a perfect day to be out at the parks, the weather was amazing. Hope it stays this way for those traveling down soon. Mixed feeling about the Festival, disappointed that they have cut back on the "garden" displays and vendors, but happy that they have increased the number of food kiosks. It is more like the Food and Wine but less crowded and crazy. Ate my way around the world and tried a few adult beverages too. Here are a few pics.

Well, we made it to our first campground of this trip. After spending the night in a hotel in St. Mary's, 140.00 and in our deepest opinion, was not worth it one bit, we left around 9 and pulled in to Manatee Hammock Campground at about 1. We set up camp, went to Wally Weird for grocery's and then went to dinner at our favorite restaurant. We will be here until March 10 then heading up to Destin for a few days to spend with my parents and sister, then off to the Fort.

I will post pics of our campsite here in the other thread some time tomorrow.

We too have been getting everything ready for the trip! I have taken all the sheets, towels, rugs and blankets from the RV and washed and now they are ready to go back in. I always do this prior to big trips.
And then...You know with RV's, there is always something to buy:) Today, it's new batteries and next week it is two new tires! Then we will have all new tires and new batteries! So we will be ready for the fort at the end of the month and then we have several RV trips planned this summer. Memorial Day will spent in Dandridge, TN at the Anchor's Down RV Resort for a week, then on to Virginia for about a week. Then July 4th, I hope I get to spend it back at the fort. In late July, me and my hubby are going to TopSail Reserve State Park near Destin, FL for our anniversary with out the kiddos! Then in the fall we tailgate at every home football game in the RV at the LSU Tiger Stadium...aka Death Valley!

I know...most of you are Bama fans...and that's alright:) bc we are all Disney fans!

Manatee Hammock is over by Port Canaveral, correct? Looks like a really nice park. You should drive out to Jetty Park and watch the cruise ships leave port. The Disney Dream sails out today (Monday) somewhere between 4-5pm.
