Maple Syrup??

We bring our own. Can't stand that sugar crap. We even bring REAL VERMONT MAPLE SYRUP for all the C.M.'s we encounter on the cruise. They LOVE it but what's not to love?;)

Is there a corkage fee? :)

We brought mini maple syrup bottles for some of our FE gifts last cruise, maybe I should do that for our next one too...:scratchin

Does DCL have real Maple Syrup?? Not the kind made from corn syrup.

I ask b/c I am allergic to corn and corn byproducts. I don't like molasses, so I need real Maple Syrup.

TIA for all of your help.

My DD and I have corn allergies, too. We just stayed away from the syrup completely. Just to make sure that we do not experience any allergic reaction. Just remember to call them 30 days prior to your cruise to accommodate your allergies. If you are highly allergic to syrup and request maple syrup, they should be able to accommodate it.

We are traveling to the Med Cruise in 1 week and we hope to find it in Barcelona :)

Remember to call them tomorrow.

I'd probably put it in at least 2 zip-loc bags. And then inside a big plastic bag. Maybe with a few paper towels wrapped around the bottle itself before placing it in the first bag.

Or just get some real syrup in the container that god intended for it, a metal can.

I've had the tj stuff the archer farms ( target) and the PC stuff in the grolsch like bottles, but a white and red can that you open with an old school can opener is THE way to go. Liquid heaven in 541 ml aliquots. If it lasts more than a couple of days in the fridge, the spilled syrup on the top concentrates as the water evaporates making it inexplicably better.

I think the concern is the rough handling the bottle/can may have in checked bags. Even in a can, I'd wrap it up. But I'm picky about making sure that nothing leaks in my bags.

Unless you are worried about someone running over your luggage In a tank, a can of maple syrup is as safe as a can of green beans (if not safer).

I am a real maple syrup gal, too. You could always use your quart-sized ziploc bag in your carryon to fit as many 2-3oz maple syrup nips that you can. I just don't bother with the regular syrup on the pancakes/waffles/french toast, though. Instead, I top with the strawberries in syrup (on the classic ships, it's at the yogurt station in the deck 9 buffet). I don't know if those are sweetened with corn syrup, however.

When I was younger, I topped my pancakes with butter and granulated sugar. Now I sometimes go for butter and honey.

Now for the stick situation: We are flying in. Airlines require it to be in checked luggage. DCL requires it to be in Carryon. :confused3:confused3 What's a girl to do????

Easy........do NOT check your bags with the DCL tags, but with your regular airline tags to MCO. Pick up the bags at MCO, take the wonderful CONNECTICUT ;)Maple syrup from your checked in bags and put it in your carry on. Then just put your DCL tags on your check in bags and walk to the DCL/ME counter and they will take your bags though to your cabins onboard.

Duckin.... before the Vermonters start the noise.......:rolleyes1

You can just leave it in your checked bag to go on DCL. We brought a bunch of food items for my kids (stuff like GoGo squeeze applesauce packets, goldfish crackers, fruit leather, etc.) on our last cruise and we just had it in one of the suitcases that we handed over to DCL.

You only have to carry on BEVERAGES. Maple syrup is not a beverage, by definition.

Just put a few of the plastic jugs in a large ziploc, put it in a checked bag, and be done with it. The plastic jugs from Target are very sturdy and double sealed, so it won't leak.

I wouldn't do this. While maple syrup isn't a free flowing liquid like soda or water, it does flow, and if broken would make a huge mess not only in your luggage, but potentially in someone else's. Then you'd be out your syrup, and have ruined someone else's bag and clothes as well.

OP, if you call DCL, don't be too surprised if they can't accomodate your request for real maple syrup on the ship. They will stear you towards items that you're not allergic to, but if they don't carry it on board normally, they aren't going to carry it just for one cruiser who is allergic.

Just for the record, if it does leak,(and the luggage gets banged around big time) you will be responsible for any damage or dry cleaning required to other peoples luggage or property.

....

Actually, I believe DCL rules refer to "fragile items" must be in carry-on - beverages and other liquid foods are considered fragile because they could break or be squished and make a mess - not only in your bag but potentially leak out to affect another passenger's luggage as well. While the hard plastic maple syrup jugs may seem quite sturdy, they are breakable. Have you seen the pictures of how the luggage is handled?

Then just put the little jugs inside a Tupperware container. I have traveled extensively on several cruises and numerous flights. Never had any liquid holding container leak or break on me. I always put toiletries inside ziplocs just in case, but never even had a bottle open up on me. Just been lucky all my life? I guess.

How is this any different than bringing on liquid toiletries?

Thanks for all of the responses. I know how I am going to handle the logistics of this now. pirate:

I will buy a bottle from our local grocer (glass bottles only). I will go to our local liquor store and get a wine thingy. :thumbsup2 Then wrap in a couple of ziploc bags, then bubble wrap. That stuff is expensive and I don't want broken glass or syrup in my luggage, let alone someone else's.

I will pack it in our checked luggage for the flight. We are staying the night at AS Sports before the cruise, so will unpack the syrup and carry on board.

Sometimes I just need someone to point out the obvious solution. :rotfl2:

Yeah...I don't even do that anymore and will buy stuff when I get there. Nothing worse than stuff breaking in your bags.
