Major Rumor Marvel in ToT update page 25

The people talking about the problems with the contract are looking at it from the "gotcha" point of view. I guarantee you, saying there is no technical Mississippi river directly west of Orlando would never hold up in court.

And besides that, even if that provision wasn't in the contract, they still have a protected 300 mile radius around Islands of Adventure where *no one*, not even Putt Putt or Chuck E Cheese, can use the characters. The Mississippi line is just for theme parks. The 300 mile radius is for all entertainment venues.

Anyway, it's obvious what they meant by the boundary. Believe me folks. Disney has been over the contract. If there was some silly little loophole, they would have explored it.

On other topics, the hulk refurb is not confirmed to have any specific connections to the marvel movies. The ride originally used footage from a horrible cartoon version of Hulk that was severely outdated. The queue was boring and not themed very well, and the ride had started getting rough which was causing them to slow it down a bit.

The new queue/storyline is definitely going to be more modern, but I doubt you will see specific references to the Ruffalo version Disney presented to us.

It boils down to Wizarding World redefining the standard they want to have for their rides. Older rides are either getting replaced or rebuilt. I suspect Toon lagoon hasn't gotten any of this attention yet as it is the most obvious replacement for a whole new land.

Wolverine is dead in the comics right now. And second, the "old man from another universe" version of Wolverine was a storyline back in 2008 that wrapped up in 2009. So it is wildly inaccurate to state that it is, or even has recently been, the version of him "currently" depicted.

Not wildly inaccurate. Factual. I read the comics. Old Man Logan was a storyline a few years ago, it was popular, they brought the character back and he features in current issues of X-Men comics.

The current "Wolverine" is the original Wolverine's female clone, previously known as X-23. The original Wolverine is dead, but the "Old Man Logan" alternate universe version is now in mainstream continuity.

Don't quote wikipedia at me when I read the comics in question.

I don't need Wikipedia to know that the "Old Man Logan" story started in August 2008 and ended in September of 2009. It was also never in the main time line, it was in Earth-807128. And no, Old Man Logan is not back in the "mainstream continuity". He showed up for Secret Wars, a giant crossover that started last December. He does not have his own comic and he does not exist in the marvel universe outside of this "secret wars" storyline. When are you going to admit/get that giant crossovers are temporary sales mechanisms and in no way relevant to the "mainstream"? When Ben Parker/Scarlet Spider was temporarily the main spiderman for a year or 2, did that suddenly mean Universal should have repainted their entire spidey ride? To something almost none of their guests would have understood or been familiar with? You seem to be arguing that when comics run a temporary storyline it someone changes who the "core" version of a character is, which in turn someone opens a fuzzy loophole in the contract and makes it somehow difficult for Universal to know which character, or version of a character, they have rights to.

It's real easy. The themepark industry doesn't kneejerk react to things. So some story that only lasts a few months to a few years isn't going to cause them to rethink the characters presence. Second, it's clear what "age" Marvel Super Hero island is in. Its the most commonly known one. The Saturday morning 90's version. Your reading way too much into a single line in the contract that exists solely to prevent some hot shot from coming in and deciding to do something silly like changing all the meet & greets to age of apocalypse versions of the characters, or something silly like that.

You just summed up the main problem with your posts. You read the comics. Guess what - your not the demographic. Do you know how many people read Old Man Logan 6-7 years ago? A handful of the people walking through those gates. Anyone who thinks there was *ever* any discussion as to what version of Wolverine they should use, doesn't understand their basic business model.

Comics have one thing that never changes, and that is the basics. Characters die, alternate universes pop-up like crazy, and at the end of the day it, 95-99% of the time it goes back to exactly what is was. I leave the 1% for the few characters they have killed off and left dead (so far).
Supermans Dead? No, he's alive.
Batmans back is broken? No, it better.
Spider-man unmasked for everyone to see? No, he made a deal with mephisto and undid that

Trying to quote some 7 year old comic story and claim it is somehow the permanent version of Wolverine shows little to no understanding of this ebb and flow.

Ultimately, it goes back to my last post. Your coming up with far out technicalities and trying to say they have any bearing on this contract, when they clearly don't. There is no debate on whether or not Universal is trying to change which version of Wolverine they use. They are clearly using the most popular one. All this "gotcha" nonsense comes from a non-business perspective.

I've been saying this for years. [Jim Hill] repeats rumors he's heard elsewhere and then makes up stuff to fill it out.

... and then if there are still gaps in the podcast, he fills them in with a lot of "UMMMMMM" and "LIIIIIIKE" ...

You weren't kidding about confusing and not knowing how things could work out. This is 3 sentences, and I am beyond lost. I'll stick to watching Wolverine in the 90's cartoon.

In other words, Universal isn't real concerned about using one of the 25+ wolverine variations when the 90's one that you love is the same one everyone else loves. Its really a non-issue.

If you don't read the comics the continuity is completely impenetrable at this point. And they wonder why they can't expand their audience...

Again I assume that Universal goes by the "iconic" looks which while also a little arguable are much less variable. I just find reference to time period in the contract to be peculiar and probably not very helpful. Most likely a result of lawyers not having the faintest idea what they are dealing with.

I was not, regardless of what others may think, implying this is some get out of jail clause for Disney.

Now, if Warner Bros absolutely wanted to pull the license from Six Flags, they actually can. They have escape clauses in their contract, and the only reason Six Flags HAS these licenses to begin with was because they used to be ownded by Time Warner

WB has out clauses, but they can't just pull it. There is public information out there, but some of the out clauses is if six flags gets bought out or misses their payment. They can't pull it just because they want to, they would have to wait until the contract expires, which we don't know when that is (we just know that it does have an expiration date).

Second, in the long term, Disney isn't going to drop a couple of billion (the minimum to buy them out) on a license when they don't have an immediate place to take advantage of them in.

I hear this often when people talking about buying the theme park rights or the spiderman/FF/XMen movie rights. That's a ridiculous amount of money just for rights where Marvel/Disney still have veto power (For theme parks, we know Marvel can veto new rides based on existing characters, from the sony leaks, we know Marvel can enforce a freeze period on the movies where the 3rd parties cannot make movies on their properties). The cost would be in the millions, even hundreds of millions, but I have a hard time believing it would cost them billions when they control most of the IP.

Not that it definitely impacts anything but ToT is a finalist in the march magic contest on the Disney Facebook page. You'd think they'd take it as a sign as gee this attraction has a massive fan base let's not mess it up.

Who knows though

Maybe if they would ship the shirts I ordered from that contest.

This. Once this discussion gets granular to the point of figuring out the current lineage of a dead (or not so dead) Wolverine, you lose 99.99% of theme park guests. Most people (myself included), know nothing more about Marvel Super Heroes beyond that which they watched on TV in the 60's and 70's, or from the movies that have come out in the past 15 or so years. That is the beginning and end of the narrative.

Rumor update

A new Gaurdians of the Galaxy Proposal instead of ToT has been presented. GotG will go into RnRc after the Aerosmith farewell tour in 2017. You will zoom through while seeing scenes from the movie.

This is why I stick to Valiant in comics and just enjoy the other universes in theaters or on TV.

This timeline seems reasonable.

The idea of doing a "farewell tour" for RnRC concurrent with a farewell tour for the band seems like a brilliant marketing stroke... if they take advantage of it.

RnRC is definitely a better physical fit for Guardians. I can't speak to the visuals, but I do hope Mix Tapes Vol 1-3 will be involved in the soundtrack.

That section of the park is interesting from a theme perspective. As the rest of the park moves to being organized by "lands" I do wonder how they tie this together. Everything over there aside from Rock-n-Roller Coaster has this "Old Hollywood" feel (Brown Derby, the shops, ToT) -- RnR/Aerosmith doesn't really "fit" with this theme. If they want it to be cohesive the question becomes do they change it to a new land and re-theme both rides or do they try and find a way to make RnR fit the "old hollywood" theme....maybe old hollywood meets new hollywood? Giving it a Marvel overlay doesn't help that area become a more cohesive piece of the park...unless you retheme all of it to Marvel...which unless they stick with GoG only they don't really have the ability to do.
