About how long are magic bands good after a trip? On my disney experience it says I have two magic bands currently active and one that it says is inactive. Should I just assume that the one from three years ago this upcoming summer will still be active? The other one that says active is from five years ago this upcoming summer. I don't want to buy them if I don't have to.

The long range functions won’t work but you should be fine to open your room and charge to it.

For unlocking your room, scanning into the park, and anything else "close range" they typically work for a few years. The functionality that typically is lost is longer range, like automatic ride photos.

In MDE the active and inactive status doesn't indicate hardware function. It just means they are turned "on" active or "off" inactive. You can switch them between active and inactive depending on which ones you want to use.

Previous posters are right about Mahic Bands still working for years. Used a 3 year old one on a trip last year just fine.

This.
At sometime, you must have inactivated one of the magic bands. We have many from previous trips and all are "active". they work for charging, entering a park and room key. Those over 2+ years, the battery for ride photos doesn't work any more.

So if we use our old bands and want ride photos, how do we get those?
There is a way to a to do it in MDE app. Someone else will need to chime in because I do not remember how exactly I did it. You are basically tracked via Bluetooth as to which ride you are on and where you are near that ride's camera. If you do not want to do that there are still a few rides where you can view your photo on the screen and claim it by tapping your Magic Band, bit not all have that anymore.

Many rides still have a photo display at the end where you can touch a MB to a reader to link the picture.

7 Dwarfs Mine Train, Haunted Mansion, Frozen Ever After and Slinky Dog Dash don't have displays, so you must have a recent MB to get those photos.

Apparently, this is more of a miss when it comes to actually linking photos.

So if I decide to do memory maker and want my ride photos I should suck it up and get new magic bands? Or, could I just buy one new one and the others could use their old magic bands?

We still have Magic Bands from when they were first rolled out and they work just fine for getting into the doors and for our tickets.

What happens if it craps out in the middle of a trip? I would guess you'd get a new one at guest services???

If you recently bought a MagicBand that stops working I'm sure they'll help you to replace it as they will with any defective merchandise. But unlikely for an older MB. I don't know that Guest Relations or the resort front desks have gray ones to give out anymore; if needed as ticket or room key they would probably give you a plastic card. They sell MBs in pretty much any of the gift shops if you want to replace an older one.

We have magicbands from a cancelled 2020 trip. I have no idea how to see if they are linked to my account or how to link them. They've been in my closet since like April 2020.

any help?

If you don't want to buy a new band you can always get a free Key to the World card. Resort front desk and guest relations will activate one for you. Use it to tap in and make purchases the same as a Magic band.

Check under "Magicbands and Cards" in MDE. It'll show all your linked bands, including color (not always accurate, a bunch of mine show gray and I've never had a gray one) and serial number. You can cross reference with the bands.
