I recently ordered a medical ID for my special needs child to wear and am suddenly feeling guilty that I do not have one for my other child! If he has on his magicband and is lost can a CM scan him and find our information?

No information is stored on the bands, so no.

You can however tell your child to look for a CM. Let them know who exactly to look for. If you find he is lost Disney will do everything in their power to find them.

If you want to be extra careful you can get Safety tattoos that allow you to write your phone number on them. http://www.safetytat.com/child-id/index.php

While it is true no info is stored on the MB, that's not the reason they could not be used for ID and other information.

The MBs, when scanned, can yield all kinds of info (names, resort reservations, dates, phone numbers, home addresses, etc.) as all of that info is stored in a guest's MyDisneyExperience account (and other internal Disney files linkable to that.)
The access to some or all of that can be restricted from more basic MB scanners and limited only to all except higher echelons of CMs (security, for instance.)

But, for whatever internal reason, Disney (so far) has chosen not to use the MBs as "kid locators."

I suppose I was given some incorrect info from a CM. We asked this exact question from a CM at DTD and she had given us that answer, thank you for clearing it up!

The best ID to locate a child when lost is an ID both you and he can identify with. Something you and he have discussed before your vacation. For my grandkids, it was a pinned in note to the backside of their underwear so they would only show that to someone they trusted. Other ideas is a note in the bottom of their sneaker or under the undersole.

They don't use the bands as IDs if kids are lost as you can first hand see the nonsense people on this very board post about privacy and how they dont want disney to have their address all that dumb hysteria
