Magical Memories of a Double Dip 9/27-10/4 - updated 10/16 w/pics

If you can't scan the navigators - could you send me a set if possible ? I'll pay for postage. We are going on the DD in three weeks!!!

I too would like to know the dining rotation and the times of dinner - are they still doing the staggered starts.

Thanks.
Karn

Has the dining times changed like on the Wonder? Just one time for early and one time at late rather than staggered times at each restaurant.

If anyone can fax me the navigators, I can post them on my website for everyone to read. My fax is 866-507-8584. I'm cruising on the 18th of Oct and can't wait!!!

I hope your having a great cruise. We can't wait until ours in late November.

Thanks for finding out about the soymilk.

Oh my gosh...this is so exciting! Thanks for spending the dough to give a few live updates. Makes me want to book my 40th b-day cruise!;)

Have a ton of fun!

What's the dining rotation? Are they keeping the ABBCABC rotation?

The dining rotation is a little "different" or as they would say about Jack Sparrow - strange.....er. Here is ours (we are at the 8:30) PLLAAPL. BUT one thing I have to say - the new Golden Mickey's menu is AWESOME :thumbsup2 - our server was bringing us a few things to try that we didn't order and I have to say there wasn't a thing on there that wasn't delicious.

Hope you get to spend some time at the Spa and relax. ;) What can you report on Spa Specials?
Thanks and Have Fun

The only special I have actually seen so far is tomorrows its $109 for 25 min of shoulder, 25 min of leg and foot, a day pass to the rainforest room. Not bad actually.

You know I was just telling DH - they really are good - much better than the band on there the last time we were on. People really seem to like them.

Sunday
After an early breakfast at Lumierre’s, we headed out to Castaway. Since this is one of the special Double Dip trips, we get to go to Castaway twice – once at the beginning and the second time on the normal last day. We chose to walk to work off some of that yummy breakfast and found ourselves a nice spot all the way down at the end of the family beach with our DCB (dear cruising buddies). This is a couple that we actually met on a cruise last May when we were seated at the same table. Since that time we have become very good friends and this is our 3rd cruise together. They are great people.

Anyways, we pick up the two floats that we had already reserved (on the double dip they give you a great price to rent them for both days) and head out to the water. It is actually a bit chilly at first but as we are in it warms up pretty quick. I think one of the most relaxing things is just floating in that crystal blue water. :beach: We looked over toward the bar area and noticed they were getting ready for a wedding – so we had something to watch as well!popcorn::

After a few hours we head over to Cookies BBQ for lunch – this is one of our favs. Now we knew we had Palo so we told ourselves we would not be filling up before tonight. Rigggghhhhhtttt…..mmmhmmmmm…..nuff said. As usually, everything was very good – especially the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream!

We then decide to go ahead and head back to the ship as we are leaving early so we can make it to Grand Cayman in less than 2 days. Sail time today is 3pm – which works out fine as we were ready for a cruise nap – what you may ask is that? Well think siesta, relaxation, do nothing, etc …. A must for all cruisers.:lmao:

However, do I indulge in a cruise nap, nope – I am finishing my fish extenders. Next time, I will do those ahead of time! Oh well, after finishing and sorting them, DH is very happy to hear that he is now allowed to sit on the sofa again. I go ahead and deliver the 2nd floor and the ones for my secret Mickey. I will have to say more about my secret Mickey gifts later just in case they happen to go online and read this.

Before we know it, we need to get ready for Palo and head up. Now since tomorrow night is formal night, I am wearing a nice dress but saving my nicest one for formal night since DH is wearing a tux. When we get up to Palo, they hand me a present wrapped with a pretty blue ribbon. We look at each other and DCB in shock – what is this? So after being seated, we open it to find that our Secret Mickey has struck – he/she dropped off this present for us at Palo – it’s a Mickey shaped kitchen timer – its perfect! I have actually always wanted one of those but just never got it. I love it!

Our server, Roberto was recommended by one of our favorite dining servers. So we knew he would do a great job. Dinner was great – and we had a blast – 3 ½ hours later, we literally closed the place down. One thing I would not recommend though is the coffee drink with crème de menthe in it. Neither of us at the table that got it liked it. So how you might ask did we spend so much time there – good food, great friends and lots and lots of food. I chose to have the filet mignon, my appetizer was the prosciutto pizza and of course the chocolate soufflé for dessert. Of course there was what seemed like a ton of other food in between!

Oh I forgot to mention we went through a pretty good rainstorm – lots of thunder and lightening, while we were in Palo’s it was actually beautiful – in my opinion – of course on of my DCB’s didn’t think so – she didn’t like the sideways rain coming down in sheets – to which her DH replied “guess it’s a good thing this ship is waterproof”:lmao:

After finishing up dinner, DH and I took a walk around deck 4 to try to justify all the food we had just finished eating and retired to our room where we watched Snow Buddies – very cute. Then, with the waves gently rocking us to sleep we enjoyed a nice peaceful night. :ssst:

Monday
Okay, first I will admit it – I slept in a just a little. Not too bad but enough that Lumierres wasn’t an option today. So we headed up to Topsiders and sat out on the deck eating our breakfast. It was an absolutely gorgeous morning – if I could just figure out how to live on this ship and eat breakfast like this every day (and no I don’t mean WORK on the ship) I would be in heaven! :cloud9:

After breakfast, we did some exploring and ended up going to the Castaway Club party – as usual, I didn’t win a clock – but not shocking, still was nice we got to talk with one of the chefs from France. He was a riot, just picture the chef in Ratatouille and you have the picture.

Next I headed back to the room to finish delivering my F/E gifts. I had to finish up deck 6,7,8 and 1 plus my Monday gift for my Secret Mickey. My goodness – THIS IS A BIG SHIP.:moped: I ran into another Dis’er passing out her gifts and I think we had the same look on our face. :tiptoe: Deck 7 was the worst – just because of how spread out everyone was. It was great exercise but I was glad when I delivered that last one! One good thing, I finally found the “secret” deck on deck 7. Spent about 2 seconds there and then back to delivering. The interesting thing is the difference in the different decks. For example, Deck 1 is very, very lit up with extra lights – deck 8 has beautiful woodgrain accents in some places. Just interesting.

As I was delivering, it was actually hilarious to see some folks face – those who weren’t Dis’ers saw this crazy woman carrying a paper back full of small cellophane bags of goodies. Those who were Dis’ers just passed me with the “knowing look”….one even commented “fish extenders huh?” To which I of course nonchalantly replied – I’ll never tell:rolleyes1

One non Dis’er stopped me, she said she had been on many cruises and wanted to know what this things were about. So I shared the secret….so if you are that person and you happen to be reading this – welcome and glad you found your way!:hippie:

As I climbed the final steps back to my deck, opened my door and plopped on the bed – post F/E delivery, I realized that DH was MIA. Hmmm. Its lunchtime and no DH….I mean is this enough of an emergency to have him paged? Should I send the search party – then it dawns on me - check the Cove. So I head back to the stairs …..NOT :lmao: – I exercised my elevator finger and headed up.

Sure enough I found him and we were in just enough time to go to Parrot Cay for another yummy lunch. I have to say, I think that is one of my favorite lunch places. It never seems overly crowded – has the same buffet food and they usually have a special pasta bar. Once again, we close the place down and head back to the room.

DH decides to take his daily cruise nap and as I sit there I realize that Spa Jackpot Bingo is about to begin. So I spend the next 15 minutes debating with myself. Well, you could sit here and rest……but what if I would have won a spa treatment……but what if I waste my time (and money)…..oh what is $20 or $30, not like you have done a ton of shopping (ok about this time, if you have seen Pirates 3, picture the scene when Jack Sparrow has the two little Jacks on his shoulder – this was me. :crowded: So guess who won, yep that was me sitting at Bingo – winning NOTHING. But I sure laughed a lot.

After a trying afternoon of Bingo, I deserved a cruise nap and took one. Before I knew it, it was time for the Golden Mickeys – always good show and to get ready for formal night. So as I am getting ready, DH informs me that our DCB are ready and want to go get pictures – PANIC.:scared1: Not only is that drama but my dress, which I wore last year doesn’t fit the same. I have lost some weight and the darn elastic isn’t staying up like it should! DH looks at the back of it and says “are you going to do something about that” :furious: - now any guys who are reading:offtopic: ….this is not the thing to say to a wife who is already flying around trying to finish getting ready and is attempting to look like a princess when there are already all these other princesses wandering the ship (ie Cinderella, Belle, etc). Ok back off my soapbox, we head up to 3 and get pics with the Captain, our friends, etc and finally dinner has once again arrived. :groom:

We have moved to our new server now by request. This is a server we had a year and a ½ ago who is phenomenal. He takes excellent care of us as usual and I think tonight’s dinner was one of the best so far. We are seated with our DCB and no one else is at the table. We laughingly joke that we have been quarantined and aren’t allowed to sit with anyone else ….
After the great dinner and changing back into normal comfy cruise clothes, we go see the comedic musician, John Charles do the adult show – very, very funny – I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time….especially when he started in on his “explanation” of why the song “A Horse with No Name” makes no sense…:lmao:

So now another day is done and I sit here in my stateroom listening to the gentle purr of the Magic gliding through the crystal blue seas. I love this ship – there really is nothing like a Disney cruise.

Oh, one other thing. A few folks have asked about the condition of the ship. The first day, we still noticed a little bit of work being done but it wasn’t really anything major. The air in our room didn’t seem to be working right but our stateroom attendant, did I mention he is awesome too?, took care of that right away. Our stateroom is in great shape – I personally love the new TVs, it seems they have upgraded the channels too because they seem very clear. Nothing in our room is in disrepair at all and I would recommend this room and will do so after the cruise. I have noticed a few room numbers that seem to be missing numbers on the doors but I have to say that is the ONLY thing I have noticed that is not in good shape. The pools all seem good, service has been wonderful, any concerns we have had were addressed immediately – so no complaints here. For any of you who are worried – don’t be, the ship is Magic pixiedust: – literally (no pun intended, kind of) :thumbsup2

Glad you are having a great time!!!

Ok... fess up... name the server!!! :thumbsup2

Great trip report, keep up the good work!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Great report - thanks so much for taking us along with you.

I wonder if all the western double-dips will leave early from Castaway Cay on the first stop. Ours will be heading to Cozumel rather than Grand Cayman for Tuesday, so we'll have even a bit further to go.

I always wonder if I should make up some DIS Board cards for people who want to know what we're up to with fish extenders, meets, etc. Are there any that someone has already designed?

Thanks for the updates...can't wait to hear more!

sounds like you are having a wonderful time
we have picked the first day at CC for our palo dinner too

and thanks again for taking time out to let us enjoy the cruise with you

Thanks for the updates!!

Can you confirm the age groups for the kid's clubs? I know that they were experimenting over the summer with the 10yos and tween group and whether to include them in the lab, the Oceaneer Quest, or the Stack.

What does this mean? ABBCABC? I am new to DCL....:goodvibes

DCL does rotational dining, each night you eat in one of three restaurants, your serving staff rotates with you. What the poster was talking about was the order that the resaurants are visited, 1st night is restaurant A, 2nd night restaurant B, etc. DCL switches the rotations every once awhile which drives overplanners insane. Some people like to be in certain restaurants on themed nights, and plan their Palo night for their least favorite resteraunt.

The poster on this thread is reporting that on her cruise which is a double dip (goes to Castaway Cay twice) her 8:30 seating rotation is PLLAALP, which is Parrot Cay, Luminere's, Luminere's, Animator's, Animator's, Luminere's, Parrot Cay. Or in terms of As, Bs, and Cs: ABBCCAB.

Hope that explanation didn't make it more confusing.
