MAGICAL EXPRESS NOT VERY MAGICAL!!!!

So...sometimes it's not a bad idea to leave the tags off and just get the bag yourself!! It's all about personal preference.

Exactly. Thank you.
I'm not beating up on the ME. I still think it's a great service. I'm sure there are people who have literally done it dozens of time, with no problems whatsoever. But it's not for me. I "prefer" to skip the luggage service. Someone else seemed to think that I was beating up on the service. I wasn't. I think it's a great service. I was simply noting to the person who posted this that if it really isn't working for them, perhaps they should cease with utilizing the service. Because in my opinion, ME is indeed Magical. It puts me in the Disney Bubble right from the airport. I always love that. I simply have my luggage with me is all.

If I were in the OP's shoes, I would have been really irritated.

We're going on our 1st WDW trip in 2 weeks. No way are we using Magical Express to deliver our luggage. We're going to do it 'old school' style and pick the luggage up ourselves at baggage claim. In fact, if I can swing it, I'm going to bring a couple of pieces of luggage as carry on if there's room on the plane (our luggage is all carry-on sized, btw).

You are going to Disney for your First trip and you over 3,000 post on the disboards??? Wow, talk about planning:bitelip:

I have never understood why anyone wouldn't just get their own bags, in order to have your possessions as soon as you enter into your room.

I've never understood why anyone would get their own bags, and spend even more time at the airport, if they didn't have to.

But then, I pack for the first 24 hours in my carry on, as the airline is more likely to misdirect my bags than Disney is to lose them.

I too prefer to have my one large suitcase with me when I enter my room. My travel gear (coming from cold NYC) is not what I wear upon my arrival to Disney. I freshen up and change out of my jeans, and roaming shoes, in to a summer dress and my flip-flops. I will have usually been up since 3 in the morning, and at WDW around Noon-ish. I don't have a carry-on, I only have my park tote as my handbag. I don't have freshen up toiletries in that bag, nor do I want to crowd my bag with them. If for some reason my bags get lost via the airline (which has never happened to me in my years of traveling) - then of course I know (soap-wise) I can freshen up at my resort. But I won't have my change of clothing with me.

But I can still understand that this may be a perk for others. Every time I have ever visited WDW, my luggage comes within a minute of my getting to the carousel. There is practically no wait. So, I'm not losing any time by waiting for my luggage. The first time I did ME, my suitcase was actually already there off to the side, because I made a side trip to the airport Disney store to get a pair of Minnie Ears, and I was not shopping very long. Yet, my luggage was taken off of the carousel and set off to the side - already there when I arrived.

This is all fine until you arrive during one of FL thunderstorms and your waiting on your bags for over 2 hours at the airport, or when the airline misdirects your bags and you spend an hour filling out paperwork and waiting. There are also the logistics of traversing the airport for those who arrive on the opposite side of DME - not something I would do with kids if I could avoid it.

Also - with a noon arrival there is a very good chance that your room won't be ready and your going to be storing your bags with bell services anyway.

As someone who sometimes uses the luggage delivery feature and other times doesn't I recognize the pros and cons for both - and imho its nice to have that choice.

I just don't understand the "why would anyone ever"... posts :) Neither are perfect both have pros and cons.

I do recall my room not being ready in the 90's, and my husband and I went to enjoy the park. But still... we had the peace of mind of knowing exactly where our luggage was and where to pick it up at Port Orleans French Quarter when we were done doing our thing.

I must agree. Different strokes for different folks. People say, "Why would anyone..." - well my sense of reason tells me that people feel the way they do based on their individual wiring. There is no better or worse way. It's just what your spirit prefers.

We rarely have checked bags, but we did have one trip with a late flight that ran later due to thunderstorms and then the entire airport was backed up leaving us with a luggage issue. We checked into our resort after 8pm and by 11pm it wasn't there. The CM at Bell Services told me that 5-6 hours after our flight landed was the norm but since the airport had closed for some time earlier that evening it was going to be significantly longer. I asked that they bring it to my room regardless of the time. At 3 or 4am I got up and it wasn't there yet so I went down to the desk and they got it for me. I mistakenly packed all of our contact storage and solution stuff in the checked bag or I wouldn't have cared.

Anyhow, since then I make sure to always have everything we need for at least the first 24 hours in carryon if we are checking bags.

You've gone and jinxed yourself now
Your bags will zig when you zag next time you fly.
My bags were delayed on my first time to fly in my entire life, when I flew to LA with the band as a high school student. Of course we were required to dress up to fly and we had plans to go to a theme park that night. A bunch of us had no luggage and we were miserable. It only takes once to teach you

What? Jinxed myself??? It's highly unlikely that you can predict my future.

I flew into mco three days ago. I had two checked bags. Because I was heading to my dd's apt, I had to get my bags. Fine. But, when you, and a ton of other people are standing there, at the carousel you've been instructed to go to, for 25 mins, only to find out that your bags have been going around and around at a different carousel? Hugely irritating! Have to say I wa really missing my DME then.

I always, always have clean underwear and toiletries in my carry on bag. I learned the hard way....flying home and figured I didn't need that stuff in my bag. So it all went in my checked bag. But, we got diverted to a different airport, told we could choose to stay there for the night (going to Providence from Ft Lauderdale but diverted to Philly), and get an early flight out in the morning, but no checked bags were being taken from the plane. Or, stay with the plane and go back to Ft Lauderdale, and get a flight out in the morning and have our bags. We had nothing in our carry on bags, dh said we're going back. It wasn't pretty. Yes. We could have stayed the night with nothing but made the choice not to. Now, I always have what I might need for the next 24 hrs in my carry on. Always.

December 2017 was the first time we used DME, and it was pretty flawless for us. We didn't tag our bags going because our first night was at the MCO Hyatt, so we naturally needed our bags with us. But it sure was nice to tag them and hand them over to the airline/baggage check-in guys at the Grand Floridian on our departure morning and not have to think about them again until we got to our home airport.

Next month, we'll be using their baggage service both ways since we're heading straight to Disney once we land. I'm looking forward to it. Our flight is scheduled to land around 1:30pm, and once we reach the resort we're going to swim, have dinner, and possibly go out to Disney Springs to shop. I'm packing necessities for the afternoon/evening's adventures in my carry-on and letting Disney take care of the rest. Because when they let us off that plane, we're making tracks down to the bus ASAP!

Pardon me. Just seemed rude to me.
Not meant to be
Ever heard of not talking about rain when camping or not taking about a no hitter during a baseball game? Anytime you have a good thing going it's bad luck to talk about it. Just making a reference/joke about that.
Something so common I thought everyone would get it. But I was wrong. Clearly.

No problem at all.

Why are you quoting me? I'm not the OP, and I told them the same thing weeks ago.:rolleyes1
I read this as agreement....there are other ways to get around, response is like 'yeah, get your own transportation'. Not a criticism.

DME has been a mess for a long time. The last time I used it was 2010. The wait at the airport was interminable and on the return trip, our bus was 15 minutes late arriving. In the meantime, the people booked on the bus 30 minutes after us started arriving. There was a lot of chaos and confusion at boarding. Once we got seated, the driver announced the bus after our was not coming and they were going to squish all of those people on our bus, which was already almost full! Then the driver walked through the bus and tried to make parents hold kids on their laps (not babies, actual KIDS) to make more seats. I was given a dirty look by the driver when I refused to move my sound asleep 2.5 yo from her seat to my lap.

Point being, it’s a mess, nothing new. We’ve done rental cars ever since. I guess we will consider Uber now with the parking charge, but I really like having a car. Don’t care for the park busses either.
