Mars candy and food dyes, why are they holding the line?

Thanks for sharing this, the information is staggering.

Some of the biggest improvements in my well being came from changing food items. First was changing the oil I use from Canola to Olive oil, I never thought anything of it until I read something about how it is some kind of wiggle to allow rapeseed oil in it, which is otherwise banned the single biggest improvement. Second was going organic as much as possible particularly with whole fruits and veggies where a family member would sit down and have a half bag of carrots and a dip for lunch. Also, no more sweet drinks the corn syrup is everywhere and causes me instant migraines and so does beet sugar but cane sugar does nothing, can't be healthy.

The bottom line is always the bottom line - profit.

Id assume they have done studies about what the extra cost will be vs how much business they might loose and not making a change is the better choice for them currently.

Unless enough customers voice their opinion and follow through then why would they change without being required too.

The thing is if enough customers complain and don't buy the product then they can always change direction and then get a bunch of press for the change and probably create a bunch of positive PR around it.

As for US vs EU food - I have mixed feelings - I wont disagree that the EU is better overall - but its also not as good as it was 10 or 15 years ago - I feel like companies are doing the minimum to meet the rules in most cases.
Bread is 1000% better in Europe - even sliced bread is better - and fresh every day - no wonder bread that last 7 weeks.
Even when you buy fresh bread from a bakery here is not as good as everyday Brenan's Sliced Pan.

The other issue is who funds the studies that say something is good or bad or better than something else?
And are those studies than used to make decisions on various regulations?
The sugar industry, the corn syrup Industry, the insulin manufacturer - could go down an entire rabbit hole here.

At one point we were told to use oils (seed oils for example) and not butter. Now maybe butter is better.
We were sold the food pyramid and sugar corn pops.

Another issue, people eat all sorts of things thinking they are being healthy but they don't read the ingredients.
I'm guilty of that myself and in the end there is not always an alternative so you have to make the best guess or the lesser of two evils.
Even when you go to a place like Whole Foods and think you are doing the right thing - good chance you are not.

If you are interested in this type of thing - Dr Dhand on your tube is pretty interesting - he is an internal medicine doctor who focus on changing you diet and doing exercise to address things before getting onto medications if at all possible. There was an Episode where he went to a "healthy" supermarket (obviously Whole Foods) and just tried to buy some healthy bread - and there were little to no options.
For some reason that in controversial, so he has a lot of haters.

Our Kraft Dinner uses turmeric and it totally changes the taste! I used to be a KD snob but now I won’t touch it because it tastes so bad now.
I used to think it was because I was getting old that I didn't enjoy Kraft Mac and Cheese like I did in my childhood, but I've learned they changed a lot about the product that made it taste much different than I remember. I'm sure those changes were for health reasons, and I don't eat it anymore due to diabetes, but there is no doubt it's much different.

So I guess KD/ Mac and Cheese is off the menu at the next family reunion lol
