Magic in NYC~June 2, 2012

Im thinking for the formal night we will probably just eat in our room, there is no way Im going to be able to get my husband to get all dressed up on vacation..lol. My son will turn 3 while we will be cruising, hes not allowed to wear khaki shorts at dinner either?
Are you flying into NY? we live here its about a 20 minute drive to get there as long as there is no traffic

Don't not go to the dining rooms just because you don't want to dress up. There were plenty of people that did not get dressed up. We didn't go all formal. I wore a dress and my husband and boys wore ties - no tux's or anything -though we did see some.

We will be driving from Ohio.

I cant wait to go, wish it was this year

No - one dose was just for a few hours. I gave it to them the first evening because I didn't know if they would get sick or not but they were fine. It was over the counter.

I'm going to pop in here about sailing out of NYC and sea sickness. My family (DH, DD, DS, my parents, and I) have been blessed with very strong stomachs. We have never been seasick or car sick at all. My son-in-law not so lucky. We dragged him on his first cruise a couple of years back and made the mistake of sailing out of NYC on NCL. It is not as smooth as sailing out of Port Canaveral. The waves were huge and it was so rough that even the crew members were turning green. There was a huge line at the front desk for people who were not prepared. My poor son-in-law took something they gave him and he slept for 36 hours. AND has completely sworn off any and all cruises. I can't convince him that you don't get seasick on Disney Cruises. :rotfl2: Last year I went on a cruise with my dad. Holland America out of NYC. Same thing...we hit really bad weather the first full day out at sea. The ship had to close the pool because the seas were so rough and they had those little white bags everywhere. Once you hit the calm blue seas of the Carribbean, it's perfect. So just plan to bring something if you have never cruised or if you think you might get seasick. Better to bring your own non-drowsy formula or a patch prescribed by your doctor because you don't want to sleep your cruise away.

Good to know Maria - thanks. I think we will probably just keep taking the Bonine until we hit calmer seas. It is non-drowsy so that helps.

Don't be scared. As I keep telling my son-in-law. It's a DISNEY Cruise. No one EVER gets seasick. :rotfl:

Honestly. If you are prepared and take something, you should be fine. As far as dressing up. My husband and grown son just wore a regular suit and tie for dinner (and for pictures.) As soon as dinner was over, they changed back to "regular" vacation clothing. Some men just wore dress pants, shirts and ties. It's fun to dress up one night. It's "tradiation". And look at what a nice family picture you'll end up with...

I'm loving the info on here!!!

And Kristi-as you know, we've already started to figure out some of our "plan of attack" on the parks too. It will be very interesting to find out how they plan to transport that many people to WDW. I recall reading another thread where some people are already planning on just taking a car service instead of dealing with Disney buses.

Love the FEs. I want to get in on that, whenever a group starts up!

Thank you for the links to the magnets/door decorations. I definitely want to do some of that too.

Geez, over a year away and I already have a To Do list. ;)

Hi Brook, yes I know you are crazy like me and already planning :). Your girls trip is coming up quickly - how much fun!

Nothing wrong with planning early. My October cruise, they were on their thread chatting and planning in September of 2009. I only booked that cruise in in February of 2010 so I had a "late" start compared to everyone else. :confused3
Let's just say that after all the snow we had, I NEEDED a cruise in the worst possible way...and the earliest available booking using DVC points was October!

I'll start the Fish Extender group and keep track of other DISers who check in on this thread. I'm new to all of this so I'm just going to borrow heavily from how Maureen aka Octoberbride03 is doing our October FE.

Maureen has two lists going.

List One is to keep track as everyone checks in here. She's including your DISName, names of the cruisers, Ages of the children, Category, Stateroom, Which seating you are in, Pre-Cruise Hotel, what you are celebrating and your email.

List Two is for the FE. This one has your DISName, Names and ages of Cruises (just say adult if you are over 21), Stateroom #, and food allergies.

So just email or private message me if you are checking in and if you want to do the FE let me know that as well and I'll start our list.

We all wore the Sea Bands on our wrists when we went on our Magic cruise in 2010 and never had any problems. Then again, the weather was perfect on our cruise, so not sure how they would have worked with big waves. It will be early June though, so weather shouldn't be too bad yet.

I will try **************, Thanks!

Maria,
Do you think you will be doing a few groups for the FE's? Im thinking about joining but dont want to me overwhelmed with 100FEs

Hi Christina we will be neighbors, Im room 8034 :)

You'll love that room! We loved our room with the extra large verandah on our cruise.

Regarding formal attire for kids, my 3 year old will wear shorts with a nice sweater vest or something like that. He's not into dressing up. My 5 year old (6 at sailing) will probably be in his "baker costume" aka his suit because he likes to dress up. If you and your DH wear khakis and a polo shirt no one will think anything about it. I've seen people in tuxes (not many), suits, and just normal dinner clothes. I'll wear a black dress that I bring for formal, semi formal and Palo. DH will bring his suit or just wear a sport coat with dress pants.

We plan on going to MK because my son loves pirates. Although I would love to eat at Le Cellier in Epcot.

We are also looking to book a cabana on CC. We had one last time and it was awesome. We spent the entire day there and loved it.

I'm now worried about sea sickness. I usually end up having issues that last night when we sail from CC back to PC because of the gulf stream. I think we will be getting meds or a patch from the dr.

One last thought, I'm thinking about doing the FE again but I don't want to deliver to 35 cabins like I did on my last cruise. Still deciding...

Hi, We've had a little discussion about the FE. I think so far the consensus is to keep it down to a smaller number. I'm thinking between 15 and 20 cabins. If it goes over that amount, we will split the group in half or thirds depending on the final number. So I'm just asking, does everyone agree that 15 or 20 is a good number/cutoff? If we hit 20 we could do 10 and 10?

Thoughts and opinions are welcome.

We are thinking about a cabana also.. is it that much nicer/better to have one?

I'd def be more likely to do it with smaller numbers.

I was thinking about it too, but then I saw that it costs $499 so I was a torn about spending that much. Is it really worth it?

We had a cabana for our cruise in March and we loved it. I would like to get one again for this cruise but with Platinum & Gold Castaway members being able to book them online before we can I'm not sure we will be able to snag one.

The cabana was worth it for us. I would say that if you plan on doing a lot of excursions and not being in the cabana don't spend the money. We just spent our time on the beach with our two kids and inside relaxing. It was worth it for us because we've never spent the whole day at Castaway Cay before. We'd always done just a few hours and then went back for the ship to nap. Instead, I got to nap on my hammock :cool1:. That is on the agenda again.

I will be for the FE if it is small (even 10 and 10). My DH was supportive if it is small. He hated the suitcase being loaded down with all my FE stuff last time.

We do plan on just hanging out on the beach all day, the only thing I want to do is the stingrays with my daughter, and while we are off doing that my husband will just play on the beach with my son
