I called and requested extra ME tags last trip and they mailed them out no problem

They only send 1 per person. You can call and request another set once the initial ones arrive (I've been told they won't send out the second set until the first is shipped). They will send another whole set out (for example if you have 4 people but only need 5 tags they will still send 5 additional tags). We always fly southwest and always need at least one extra tag. I ordered a second set last Tues and the second set arrived this Monday so they are pretty quick. Enjoy your trip!

I called member services to add the dinning plan and had them add my second set of tags and they sent those before my regular tags
But yes you have to call and request them

Is magic express luggage tags different than the matching plastic tags with character designs to match your magic bands? When we got our box, all we got was magic bands and matching color character tags.

Yes the ME luggage tags are yellow stickers like what they put on your bag at the airport to alert baggage claim as to what flight you are on and where your checked bags should go. You put them on your luggage so that at the Orlando airport they know in baggage claim to re-route your bags to Disney World. In our experience, if you are arriving early in the day, it's great to put on the Magical Express tags and then your checked bags will be delivered to your room, usually around 3 hours after you land (even if you go to a park, when you return to your room your bags will likely be there)...if your flight lands later in the day, we usually just don't put on the ME baggage tags, pick up our luggage at baggage claim and bring it on the Disney Magical Express with us so we can take it to our rooms. Learned that the hard way when we had a flight that landed at 9 p.m. and we wanted to go to sleep, but our bags didn't get in till close to midnight!

@Disneymom1126 Thank you. We arrive around 4:30 pm so do you think it's better for us to take our luggage ourselves to Magical Express Bus?

And also to make sure I'm getting this right....my son's friend is flying from San Francisco to LAX (it was cheaper) to meet us at LAX. My son is telling me she'll pick up her luggage from baggage claim once she lands in LAX so she can put her Magical Express tag. Is that how it works? For some reason (you can tell I'm novice when it comes to flying) I thought her flight from SF automatically transfer her luggage to airplane that goes to Orlando once she lands in LAX.

Does it depend on her tix?

If she wants DME to pick up her luggage and take to resort, she should put the yellow DME tag on her luggage before checking it at SF airport. It will automatically be transferred to MCO from LAX. If she wants to pick up her own luggage (like previously suggested for a late arrival) she should not use the yellow DME tags at all. She would pick up her luggage at baggage claim, then bring it with her to DME check in, and load it onto the bus.

If you are arriving around 4:30 p.m., you should expect to have your bags by 9:00 p.m. at the very latest (probably earlier than that). If you are okay that they don't arrive until around that time, you should be fine just using the yellow tags on your bags -- they will be delivered to your room.

As for your son's friend. They will take the bags from San Francisco as the other poster mentioned and transfer them to the plane to Orlando automatically at LAX. If you have connecting flights, you don't have to retrieve your bags at baggage claim until you are at your final destination. Having said that - it sounds like you will receive the MDE yellow tags at your home and that you may need to mail the friend's tag to him so he can put it on his luggage prior to him departing from San Francisco. He won't be able to put the tags on his bag in LAX, he'd have to have them before he leaves in the first place from San Francisco.

Thank you @disneylove16 and @Disneymom1126.

We were thinking of having dinner at Disney Springs and come back to explore resort and sleep early to get ready for RD next day so I think it'll be best if we take our own luggage. Good thing I asked! :)

Sounds like a good plan! I like being in "control" of our luggage...but maybe this says more about my personality then it does Disney's services...:rotfl:

I started bringing my own luggage for arrival days when I am not going to the parks. So much easier to immediately set up your room. When we fly in really early I let them deliver my luggage

Thats not always the case - they could have a round trip SFO to LAX and a round trip LAX to MCO (it was cheaper to fly from LAX per the OP...i.e. not a connection.) In this case it does depend on the ticket whether it is a connection through LAX or 2 separate round trip tickets (or a 1 way and a round trip or whatever) if they have to get their bags at LAX of if they are just checked on through.

Also, if you go to baggage claim, usually you have to go back through security...

I asked my son about his friend's flight and he said he has layover at LAX. What does that mean? Does this mean his friend's luggage has to be picked up at LAX and then check in again to go to MCO?

A layover would normally mean that the friend has a round trip SFO to MCO. If that is the case, he will check his bag in SFO and not touch it again until it arrives in MCO.

If you can send him a yellow DME luggage tag, and want to have all the bags delivered to your room, then he should put that on his bag when he checks it at SFO.

If you aren't able to send him the yellow tag, he can either retrieve his bag at MCO and bring it on the DME bus. Or, if he still wants his bag delivered to the room, he can turn in his regular airline claim check at the DME desk when you check in, and they will use that to retrieve the bag to deliver to the resort. It may take a little longer than usual but it does work.

I forgot to order our ME tags in time last year, so we had to get our owns bags at baggage claim in MCO. Since the vast majority of other passengers must have used ME tags on our flight, there were literally only a handful of bags on the carousel ( they pull the tagged bags out and they do not go on the carousel). Our bags therefore came out super fast and we were in our way to the DME bus very quickly. I liked having our luggage as our villa was ready early at AKL, so we had everything in the room on arrival. So what I thought was a big planning error (since we've used the tags on all prior trips), ended up working great.

You're coming from the west coast? Please remember that 9pm (the very latest I'd expect your bags to arrive and they'll probably get there earlier) is going to feel like 6 to you. It's going to be VERY hard to get to sleep that early.

I would just let the bags get delivered. Have (always always ALWAYS, no matter where you're flying) everything you need for the first 36 hours of your trip in your carryon, so you don't have to have your bags that night. If by chance you're passing out at 8:30, call Bell Services and ask them to hold the bags, then put the Do Not Disturb tag on the door. You'll have everything you need in carryon, so it'll be OK for that night.

The stuff about the flight...are *they* experienced fliers? If not...did they book the flights all at once?

If I book a flight from Seattle to Orlando but don't get a nonstop, I might get Seattle to San Francisco to Orlando. I will NOT have to get the bags in San Francisco. They will be transferred for me. I would put the tag on the bag *in Seattle* so I didn't have to see the bag again until my room in Orlando.

If I got a ticket from Seattle to San Francisco and back, and a ticket from San Francisco to Orlando and back (which is a far trickier, IMO, booking IMO), then I *would* have to get that bag. So I'd have to leave the secure area in SFO, get my bag, go to the bag check area, check my bag (this time with the yellow tag on it), go back through security, and get on my second flight.
