So it sounds like if you are getting new AP's you have to wait to link them up to MB's after they are activated. We arrive in Disney 5/22 and plan on going into Epcot that day. I will have our voucher.

If I have old MB's from a year or 2 ago, can I link them to the old bands?

Seems silly that we will not have MB for this trip. We are not staying at a Disney resort.

Thanks, Linda

The magic band is linked to your MDE account, as are your tickets. They are not linked together - just to the MDE account. You can use any MB linked to your MDE account with your AP as long as the battery still works.

Perfect. Thank you so much. I need to round up all my MB's, I probably have at least 10. I was planning on bringing them all down with us to recycle all the ones that no longer work. Wish there was a way to check this from home.

Why do you think some of them are not working?

I thought I read that the batteries die after a while. I actually think all of ours are from October/November 2014. We went last year but did not stay in Disney and only bought a 2 day ticket and never put them on Magic Bands.

Have a great trip!

You don't link tickets to the bands. You link them to your MDX account, and the band will read whatever is linked to the account. So long as your voucher or AP purchase confirmation is linked to MDX, you can use it to make fastpasses and such. When you arrive at WDW you will get the AP activated before you go into Epcot, and the bands can be used to read it then, so long as they have not been deactivated (you would need to deactivate them manually, so if you have not done so, they should still work.)

The batteries are for the long-distance scanner that will do things like upload ride photos and control the personalized screens in Small World. The RFID chip that reads your MDX account when applied to touchpoints (anything where you have to physically tap the band to the scanner) should work indefinitely.

Thanks all. I definitely want to be able to get my pictures as the AP's include all photos for the year your AP is valid.

Anything you touch the band to use doesn't use a battery and in theory should last forever. The batteries dying impacts the photopass ride photos and videos from automatically linking. Your bands are probably still fine but you never know.

They actually just released a new band and it's much thinner and more flexible. they are much more comfortable IMHO.
